VitaTester v1.1.1

Post by SMOKE »

Image

This started out as a simple request from a user that needed a way to test the buttons on his Vita. Since the initial release(s) of this project, it has changed dramatically. Heck, I've changed the name of the homebrew three times now due to all the things I've added! It now can detect and display all buttons, analog input, and both touch panels on the screen.

Here is the current changelog:
Changes since last release:

- Basic logging
- Touch is now displayed on top of other button presses
- Updated rear touch maths. Currently, it displays the same size as the rear touchpad (shorter in height, same width)
- Analog sticks display a little better and move more than they did before
- It now cleans up everything when the exit combo is pressed
- Shrunk the homebrew a bit by compressing the splash screen and background images

If you have any ideas on useful things to add to this, let me know! I'm completely out of ideas now.

Well, if someone requested it, then it has some use... I'd add simultaneous button testing tho.

Read the label, it's a button tester. It's useful for testing buttons (duh).

Controls feel a little off while playing a game? Can't get the timing just right? Maybe your buttons are malfunctioning. Now you can be sure all of them are working as they should by using this handy homebrew!

Seriously though, this is a great thing to have for troubleshooting hardware issues. Malfunctioning buttons can cause all kinds of odd behavior without the user even knowing it's a button issue. For example: On PSP, if the L trigger is shorted/always pressed, the VSH menu in CFW won't pop up when you press select and the system seems to be locked up when it's not.

I plan to add proper analog measuring so that it reacts based on how much you push the analog stick in any direction.

Also, something I want to add is front and back touch panel detection.

Hopefully It will be done before the end of the contest, but if not, it will be added afterwards.

That's simple to do, but I don't see why it's necessary. For the face buttons at least. I'm working more on analog stuff now because right now it only detects if the analog is pushed all the way in any (up, down, left, right) direction

Here's a sneak peek of the new design:

This way it's easier to display multiple button presses while not having a bunch of text all over the screen.
Plus it looks better :)
