[10/05/15] VitaDefilerClient installation method for PSTV

[10/05/15] VitaDefilerClient installation method for PSTV

I had released this previously on Twitter, but still not many people know about it. So, I'm putting it here

If you have any issues, just reply to this topic and I'll help as soon as I can
Instructions:
1. Copy the UNITY-TV folder for your Unity app version to CMA's PSAVEDATA/<random numbers>/ folder.
2. Copy the savedata to your PSTV ( You will need to use VitaUpdateBlocker )
3. Make sure you have no notifications and are not downloading anything.
4. Rebuild database in recovery.
5. Using Outlook or Thunderbird, forward the eml to your email account.
6. Find any Vita app or game that has an update available, click update, and then pause the download.
7. Open the Email app and click the attachments of the forwarded email one at a time.
It should show an error that says it could not display the image. DO NOT click the ok button.
Instead, press home and close the Email app.
8. Once you have installed both files, reboot your PSTV again.
9. After rebooting, continue the download. The download should now be ~5mb ( 5007kb ). If not, something went wrong.
10. Once downloading is complete, cancel the notification. ( It may say it could not install, an error occurred, etc.. )
11. Procede to install PSM+ for Unity ( psmplus or http://hackinformer.com/psmplus )
In the device name field, enter this fake id: 01234567890123456
12. You can now open the Unity app and delete the 0000 "app" icon that appeared.
13. You should now only have VitaDefilerClient installed in Unity. Congrats!

How to update if you have used this method before:
1. Simply FTP the Application & System folders from this pack to cache0:/VitaDefilerClient/
eg. I have Unity 1.06, so the folders and files I need to replace on my PSTV are in Unity 1.06/UNITY-TV/p/VitaDefilerClient/

Troubleshooting:
-If when you resume the download it is not ~5mb ( 5007 KB ):
1. Delete the savedata from your PSTV
2. Write the files in reset_bgdl.eml with the email trick
3. Rebuild Database in recovery
4. Start the instructions over again ( You can skip #4 though )

installation of defiler worked for me using 'cod black ops declassified' cartridge on pstv fw 3.36, thanks a lot for your method!
i deleted 0000, and chose to use same device name as my vita since i have no idea what is the device name of my pstv
but when i start defiler i always get error 0x80251002 (SCE_RTC_ERROR_NOT_INITIALIZED)
i suspect a key problem maybe, i gave up for now, will retry later (is it normal we don t have to put keys in the saved game files?)

about eml files, at first they got completely rejected by pstv email reader (hanged unable to show any emails), it seems headers of eml is the problem
a good workaround was to take mr gas eml file wich seems very similar and to replace the 2 uuencoded payloads in it and change a bit message-id
i.e your payloads and mr gas headers worked fine when put in baby pop server to serve the emails to pstv

edit: retried in parallel psm dev for unity on vita 3.18 and pstv 3.36, with the exact same keys. it worked on vita with defiler for unity 1.05 (installed by rejuvenate) and failed on pstv with defiler for unity 1.06 (installed thru your method). It still gave me error 80251002. so the only difference is the code of the vitadefiler and the dev for unity version. it can't be a problem of keys.

Troubleshooting:
-To install PSM+ on your PSTV, use the Device ID of your Vita ( Assumming you have one )
For the PSTV device ID you can use any 17 numbers code for generating the liscence file PSM+.

Another thanks for this method , it's a bit harder but when it's done thats's work well :P

According to this post, that error code might have something to do with using the PSTV's internal memory. Are you using the internal memory, or do you have a memory card?

This is normal with the Email app. It happens to me constantly. All you can do is fully close the Email app and reopen it. Another thing you can try if it still doesn't want to work is format the email application database in the settings of the Email app.

Yeah, that's what I've heard. I will add that to the instructions next time I update the files.

80251002 is normal when using internal memory on pstv? Good to know!

I effectively installed dev assistant. for unity with mr gas email method into the internal memory, and did nothing with it for long
Then I purchased a memory card of 16 Gb and when I installed it I accepted to have the internal memory copied to the memory card in order to not lose dev assistant for unity
And my tests were done with that dev assistant for unity on the memory card

So I guess you would suggest me now to delete dev assistant for unity and reinstall it?

I'm using a memory card, but getting error 80251002. I don't have a Vita. So I'm not sure when or where you're supposed to use a "device ID?"

supposedly any device id will work

in practice we will need to compile ourself this vitadefilerclient and add trace to see what provokes 80251002
(might be a missing very basic psm engine runtime somewhere, or a timing issue, who knows...) First thing to discover is which code provokes it, either vitadefilerclient or psm dev assistant for unity...

I can't get it to work.
I have a PSTV3.51 and PSMDev Unity installed. As soon as I start this App, it provides a message to update. I can close it but then it tells me that my Developer License couldn't be confirmed.

I followed the steps in the tut above, but I'm not sure if it helps me with that. Im pretty confident that the EML-files are working in my setup. I successfully created custom bubbles with it.

What should I do? My Vita is on 3.52 and the method to obtain a license does not work with it because I obviously cant use a USB cable. Am I stuck?

-in wololo.net/talk/psmplus request for unity the first eml with the 4 attachments then the second one with 2 attachments
-provide any device id you want (17 figures)
-on your pc start vitablocker 1.2
-be sure to target that proxy blocker 1.2, shutdown pstv completely, restart it (now it has no way to know you have to update so it won t ask you to update anymore)
-find a way to have the 2 emails arrive in pstv mail reader app (i use mozilla thunderbird to get them from internet mailbox then i save them in the drop directory of pop baby server)
-in mail reader click the 6 (4+2) attachments and each time DO NOT click ok but kill mail reader when it says it can t open image
-now psm dev assistant for unity will be pleased by the hack and consider you have a valid license, and has no way to now a newer fw update exists outside

that s where i am

if you see vitadefilerclient in screen, it s good, otherwise use smoke hack to install it
it s when i launch it that i have error 80251002 (it doesn t seem to broadcast anything on network it just says some api is not ready)
so i guess we either restart from scratch or wait for a better vitadefilerclient or some genious adding trace to code

of course keep 3.51 on pstv as long as you can, rejuvenate hack is wonderful, just need patience to find what s wrong
i guess can redo multiple attempts with different memory cards
since i have a vita 3.18 that works, i will postpone such tests later

i ve read somewhere it might be important to NOT launch psm dev assistant for unity before opening attachments and that a fix would be to format memory card
i m not ready to try this yet

i find strange that any device id works, there might be something fishing there. i tried my vita device if but it changed nothing. something is missing , maybe some files. someone will figure it out someday

In recent days, I have determined that part of the issue with this is the mismatch of device Ids. So, I came up with a fake device name for everyone to use, and the files are signed to work for that device name also. For me and several others, using a shared device name increases the chances of it working correctly. Hopefully this will work better for everyone now.

I also updated the instructions to include PSM+ installation ( since some people apparently still don't know about this )
