CATSFC-libretro-vita 1.1.0 - New release of Snes9x 1.43

Hey guys,

By popular demand, I'm releasing an update to CATSFC-libretro-vita, version 1.1.0. This is a SNES emulator for the PlayStation VITA, running natively using the Rejuvenate hack. This port is based off of CATSFC-libretro: https://github.com/libretro/CATSFC-libretro

This update brings all the new features I've added to Snes9xVITA, including the new menu, 444MHz support, etc. New for this release, also, is support for screen smoothing. I will add this to the next release of Snes9xVITA as well.

This version runs much more smoothly on the majority of games than Snes9xVITA does, but it does have its tradeoffs. However, I know many people prefer this version, so I've updated it.

This is awesome. Runs great at 333 MHZ on my Vita. However, I noticed a small bug. The same controls work for player 1 and 2 simultaneously, which make games like Super Double Dragon and Saturday Night Slammasters basically unplayable as you end up playing as both player 1 and 2. On the plus side, that weird "controls stop working" bug in Super Mario Allstars seems to have been fixed, so it's now playable.

Hey skogaby, thanks for the new release. Everything's running well so far.

I do have one question though: is it possible the 4:3 full screen scaler needs some adjustment? Playing DKC on my OLED Vita, and the image seems narrow. I took out a tape measure and it's approximately 70mm x 60mm, for an aspect ratio of ~1.17. It seems like it needs stretched horizontally a bit to make it proper 4:3 (1.33).

I imagine this has something to do with the game's rendering resolution. But since these games were designed to completely fill 4:3 aspect ratio CRT TVs, it seems like the latter would be more correct.

@ViRGE: Most games use 256 x 224 resolution, not all games but most of them. But they are designed to work on 4:3 screens as you just said, so a scale to 725x544 (4:3) would be good regardless of input resolution to have proper 4:3 on Vita.

Thanx skogaby for your two snes9x ports. In the libreto version I love the new smoothing option, hope you will implement this in the 1.52 version too. Both versions runs very well on 444 MHz, both have sound glitches. As I'm from europe and use mostly PAL Roms the speed limiter 60fps (NTSC) is too fast for PAL Roms. Can you make an option to switch between 60fps (NTSC) and 50fps (PAL)?

But anyway, thanx for the great work, it's a pleasure to use your emulators

I love having that bilinear filter. For maximum solid 60fps, this version is better even if you run it at 444MHz

Won't work with unity... Is this version only for normal dev app? Or the way to run must be different?

Both donkey kong country and super mario world runs at 60fps even at 333 mhz. Thanks a lot.

Thanks for the confirmation, reprep. That pretty much confirms it then; it looks like the "4:3" scaler is really a 1:1 scaler.
