A question about Rejuvenate

Post by zeron824 » Sat Sep 05, 2015 2:43 am

Hello there! If this is the wrong part of the forums, I apologize.

Anyways, I know that Rejuvenate is a kernel exploit. An actual Vita kernel exploit may I add. That's huge because now we are basically "inside" the Vita not just within its PSP emu part. My question is that is it likely to happen/possible to create an ARK or TN-V using Rejuvenate? Maybe it's not that one, but is there a way to possibly use Rejuvenate to do things that ARK and TN-V and do it natively on the Vita and not within the PSP emu? I think if any of these are unlocked using Rejuvenate, I believe that would be huge news.

Or is it not possible because Rejuvenate is technically only for running homebrews that only work with a PC?

(Correct me if I'm wrong)
The only thing I think that Rejuvenate can do right now is run homebrews while still using a PC. That alone puts me off from actually using Rejuvenate. I want to play some GBA games and what not, but if I have to go through my PC before I can, I don't see a point. I have my Vita for portability.

I mean no disrespect. I admire folks who make great advances on the scene, but this is just my two cents and if I am incorrect in whatever aspect, feel free to enlighten me.

No, Rejuvenate is NOT a kernel exploit. It is user mode only, but on the Vita itself instead of inside the PSP Emu. Since it is user mode only, it can only do things actual Vita games can do. Launching the PSP Emu would require kernel mode access.

You can also use an Android device now instead of a PC, so it's a bit more portable.

The next logical step, I think, is elf loading from within Rejuvenate until/unless Unity crashes, is closed, or the Vita is powered off. Then we would only have to "jailbreak" Unity once every so often instead of every time we want to load something new. PSP2Shell is a nice start, though I was never able to launch anything with it. Until something like that works, Rejuvenate is little more than a curiosity.

Thank you so much for the information. I did not know that I was mistaken about the kernel exploit.

Using an Android is more portable, but still not portable enough. For starters, I don't even have the OTG cable for my Android device. haha

I guess Rejuvenate is more for the coders and not so much for the standard user. Hopefully, I'll be able to contribute something amazing to the scene using Rejuvenate. Thanks.

I'm pretty sure it uses wireless connection

^This^ You can even use Android's WiFi hotspot connection and connect your Vita directly to your phone.

That build of psp2shell was made for VHL, which is a replacement for UVLoader on the regular PSM Dev app. VHL hasn't been updated to work with Unity yet. YifanLu has said it's possible to make a menu system like that for UVL, but nobody has released one so far.
