Julius Ps Vita (Caesar 3) crashing

Post by dmaskell92 » Tue Feb 19, 2019 12:23 pm

So I checked on the github and I can't find any way to submit an issue.

When certain (SMK) videos play the Vita just crashes, the first video where this happens is when Caesar first requests 10 units of oil.

The videos are kind of repetitive and pointless so a way to fix this is by deleting your "smk" folder. I can verify that the game is running way more stable after doing this.

Also it frees up about 200mb, I look at this as a mobile version of the game so having these small animations isn't a big deal for me.

If anyone can confirm this will break the game eventually please inform me. If not, enjoy.

Can you post a save game and give instructions how to trigger the crashing video?

I might be able to debug the problem.

Since it only happens on some videos, but not all, I wonder if deleting just the one offending video might be a better solution.

It could also be a memory issue.

EDIT: If you delete the videos, does the accompanying text or message still show up? I remember the videos have some text that goes with them...

Yes the text boxes still show up just fine, I can probably provide a save but the frames drop really low even on videos that don't crash.

I'm using VSH menu to monitor frames so maybe that's causing it to crash. I'll have to check it out.

Videos crash both in Vita and Switch. In Switch they only crash when there are too many things on screen and in Vita they crash frequently, it seems it is a memory-related problem. In Vita this can be bypassed just letting the videos finish, if i skip them game usually crash.

Of course removing or renaming the video folder fix the problem both in Vita and Switch, but you only get a text screen.

Edit: Here's a crash on NSW.

Are you launching the game via nsp injection? A quick way to test is to see if the keyboard comes when pressing start. If the keyboard shows up, the game should have 1gb of memory, so plenty.

If you launch the game via album, the keyboard will not show up and the game has as little memory as on Vita.

To launch via nsp injection, hold r pressed while launching any nsp installed game, and launch Julius from the hbmenu that appears.

If you launch via nsp injection, not only do you give the app MUCH more memory, but also, if it crashes, it won't require a restart anymore.

I was facing the same problems as dmaskell on my vita.
While stated by strano, my game does not seem to crash if I do not skip the video sequences, they still are really choppy..

The work arround concerning deleting the videos was a great help for me. So far -touch wood- i did not encounter any other crashes in-game!

In any case, great work!! Thanks to the dev!!

Can anybody who experienced stuttering and crashes with videos on Vita try this new version? And tell me if the videos still stutter/crash?

I enabled higher clock frequencies and a whole bunch of extra memory (more than 100 MB more).

I just installed it and played the tutorial, the first fire video still lags, I'm going to play a bit more and see if the oil request causes a crash.
