I thought up an interesting possibility today...

Does anyone have any thoughts on what the future would look like if a new console entered the playing field with active support for Homebrewing programs and communities?

This console would have to be secure, yet open enough for Homebrew creation.

You mean like OUYA? Users can freely make software for the console and publish it on the OUYA's marketplace. Though a console that actively supports user-created content doesn't really count as homebrew since homebrew is more so content created by users on closed platforms. I think a console that allows user-created content is more indie-friendly than homebrew-friendly. For example, with the OUYA, every console is a dev kit, whereas with other consoles it's typically not the case.

I was thinking more along the lines of a closed console like you mentioned, but allowed homebrew development instead of trying to keep homebrew to an absolute minimum. The Ouya is cool, but it is not a true competitor against Sony, Microsoft, and Nintendo.
