A component cable is a must if you have an HDTV. Composite makes everything blurry and discolored while component adds sharpness and smoothness.

GSM doesn't do too much, 480p probably looks the best out of all of them (720p/1080i/1080p) because the game still uses it's native resolution (which is 512x448 for most games).
