Installing Pro CFW on a PSP Go

Translations for this article:

Installing a Custom Firmware on your PSP Go has never been so easy. In this page I’m describing the easiest possible way for you to install the most reliable Custom Firmware on your PSP: Pro CFW.

Installing Pro CFW on your PSPGo is simple, free, and is not much risky than installing a Firmware update on your device. It does not require any advanced hack technique or hardware modification. There’s basically 3 easy steps (you were expecting more? Sorry to disappoint):

1. Download the necessary files

2. Update your PSP To firmware 6.60

Skip this step if you already have Firmware 6.60 installed on your PSP.

In order to install Pro CFW on your PSP, you will need to first update your PSP to the 6.60 Sony firmware (which, at the time of this writing, is the latest firmware released by Sony), if that’s not already the case. There are versions of Pro CFW that will run on older firmwares, but updating to 6.60 will guarantee the best compatibility for your official games.

To install the 6.60 Firmware, just unzip the archive on your PSP’s memory stick, in the “PSP” folder (you should end up with an “UPDATE” folder in the PSP folder, if you do things correctly), then run the update from your PSP menu.

3. Install Pro CFW

The Pro CFW archive provides several subfolders in the “PSP/GAME” folder. Two of them are interesting for us: the FastRecovery and the PROUPDATE folders. Those two need to be extracted to the PSP/GAME folder on your memory stick.

Assuming you extracted the files correctly, you will see a few new applications in your PSP’s Game menu. The one you will want to run in order to install Pro CFW is “Pro Update”. Just run it.

That’s it. You can erase the “ProUpdate” folder from your PSP, but keep the “FastRecovery” one.

4. DAILY USE

That’s it, I said 3 steps 🙂 Welcome to the world of Custom Firmwares. There’s no additional step required to install the Pro CFW. However, every time you reboot your console, you will have to reactivate ProCFW, which is done by running the Fast Recovery tool from your PSP’s Game menu, and takes literally 5 seconds.

my psp go still has the 6.10 ofw on it. I have waited till the full cfw is out(like now) and i have been following since the orginal HBL. I wanna put some cfw on it and i don’t wanna mess up like i did with my psp 1000 before i knew about cfw.
My question is do i need to update to 6.60 ofw to install a cfw?

(sorry about the spelling errors im in a bit of a rush)

ok so…. i don’t kno how to put cfw on my psp go. can someone tell me how too…. i also need to know how to get the hacked games on my psp. please someone help me…

    • kokhean

Put the UMD in the PSP 1k/2k/3k and go to VSH Menu. Change the USB mount to UMD and then you can connect the PSP to the computer and drag out the file. Your PSP Go can play that file if you’re on custom firmware.

  7. mr.nobody

bobby , put the CFW(Custom FirmWare) in your PSP > GAME foleder. Then in the PSP … go to the Games Menu and scroll down … in a folder games i guess ( i own the 1001 PSP Phat) .. And wolla your PSP will have the Installer waiting To be launched. And Adding HACKED games to the psp is quite .. easy .. BUT you have to have CFW running! Usually you get the games from Torrent sites like http://www.thepiratebay.org .. once the torrent is downloaded .. go to the psp IN USB MODE … copy the game .. usually a .iso or .cso extentsion .. transfer that file to the ISO folder in psp … and the games shall run smooth as butter for you … sometimes u might need to update the CFW by doing the same process as installing this one.. Enjoy and have Fun!

worked like a dream, thank you very much. my only question is this; what’s the danger of bricking with this type of CFW? i did have a SNES ROM freeze on me and i nearly freaked, but it wasn’t an issue.

    • wololo

There is no inherent risk of bricking in everyday use. If you start doing advanced stuff such as updating your flash (which is sometimes done by some applications that allow you to customize the look and feel of your console) then there is some risk. At that point it’s mostly about how carefully you read the documentation of a given tool, and the reviews from users, before you use it 🙂

  12. Gareth

So, is soft-modding it using this method better/safe than going for a permanent CFW on the psp go?

I disapeared from the scene for a while and it seems like since I last looked the PSP go is now completely hackable, so deciding which way I should go with CFW 🙂

    • wololo

The good point of this mod is that if you turn your psp off completely, you go back to OFW, without the need to install/uninstall anything. It also doesn’t disrupt the booting process, so less risk for a permanent brick in daily usage. Even though such a risk is already very low with the permanent solution. It’s a matter of choice, really.

      • Gareth

Ah ok, thanks for clarifying. It seems easy enough, and if there are no compatability issue differences between this and the permanent solution than I see no downside to having to boot the CFW up again on a re-start.

  13. Dragon

Wololo, i need help ! I was on version CFW 6.35PRO and everything was working fine until i had a message to activate my system. Games wouldn’t start anymore. PLz Help PLZ… 🙁

  16. tuna

hey man i just did it the update my ofw to 6.60 on ur link and when i tried to do the cfw pro b updater (not the fast recover) it says “sorry this program doesnt support fw (0x06060010)”
please help me..thakns i have a white psp go

    • wololo

Pro CFW comes for various Firmwares, be sure you download and install Pro CFW for 6.60, not for another firmware. I’ll contact the authors of Pro CFW to see if they might have more info in case that’s not your issue here.

  17. George

I followed these steps and got the firmware and also made the ISO folder in the X:/ directory (not in the root). I also put several iso and cso games on it but none of them appear when I browse my PSP GO. Is there something I’m missing?

  18. kokhean

This is very cool! I’ve searched in many forums and apparently, no one had gotten a brick on their PSP Go using this soft modification. I’m purchasing a US set and there won’t be any warranty as I’m not from the US, so I hope this doesn’t brick it :p

I’ll just avoid the permanent patch, aka the CIPL Flasher, right? But can it be used on my old PSP 2000? It has 5.50 GEN-D2 on it, but it broke and I am going to get it repaired.

  19. Sam

i have psp E1004 System software version 6.60, could u please let me know if it can be hacked n if so how doi hack it. m new with dis psp n da hecks. looking forward to ur reply

  20. Chuck

Will I need a memory stick for this, or can I do it without? Thanks.

    • wololo

This is a weird question. You can’t do anything on a psp without a memory stick.

      • toBsucht

        he´s one a Go 16gb^^ xd
but the use of ms should be ~save and helpful

        • Gibbon

I had the same thought – can this done using the Go’s internal flash memory or does it have to be via a memory card? Clarification would be helpful.

        • toBsucht

Gibbon better use a memory stick (you do not have to).
Pro cfw doesn´t write files to flash (permanent).
Special if you are a PSPgo user it´s very dangerous to write to the flash. The flash-memory isn´t the 16gb internal memory 😉

  21. cybrwlf2112

I now have OFW 6.37 and my PSPGo is filled with signed games for this version. If I update to OFW 6.60 will these games still work? Thanks!

    • toBsucht

Signed homebrews are working with 6.60 signed game backup not. But you can fake them again to run them with 6.60 ofw.
..if you only talk about iso format ..they should work. 6.39ftw^^

  22. MilosCentar

I have PsP Go, 6.60, and i extracted CFW in games, and i see “PRO UPDATER” when i open system storage, and i start “PRO UPDATE” and than, when i press X to launch CFW, and X agan to start CFW, it’s just restart, and start in normal mode, and dont want to start iso games…

  23. PSP_and_PS3_Player

    HI
    I have some qestions
my psp is now in 6.35 cfw pro 10 fix1
is it better to update to 6.60?! or there is some… problems?!
what is the new Features of 6.60 and 6.60 cfw?
    can I enter the psn?
I have psp go and ps3
I know much about ps3 but not a lot about psp
    pls answers

  24. toBsucht

Depents one you. You know you can up and downgrade. Use faked version text etc. to enter psn with lower fw.
6.60 fw offers you an exclusive sony media service but you have to pay for.
I like 6.20 fw but maybe not possible with your go 😉
Me.. thinking about an update to 6.39 to use leda.prx^^

  25. mark

hey guys please help me i updated my psp go to 6.60 and i cant open update pro it says it doesnt support my FW.. what can i do

    • toBsucht

      a. you download a wrong hen (fw) not Wololos link
      b. you didn´t update your firmware to 6.60

fix it: check you fw get “another” hen 6.20 or 6.35 and 6.39
or update to 6.60 and download wololo pro-hen link again

  26. Help me please...

must i reboot my psp before run the update?(like 6.35 pro-b6 reboot it become ofw 6.35)or just run the update when it is 6.35 pro-b6

    (sry for bad spelling)
    THX…

    • toBsucht

      Yeah hard to understand.
      1. switch to ofw run the 6.60 update then replace/use 6.60 pro-cfw

or if you just want pro-b10 replace the old 6.35-b6 with pro-b 10 (or beta c 😉

  27. Dan

    Hi, how do i upgrade 6.20 pro-b10 to 6.60 PRO B10? TNX

    • toBsucht

“uninstall” pro hen (switch to ofw) then follow the description above. 6.60 hasn´t such a good plugin support maybe try 6.39fw to 😉 ..fake version.text

  29. Alviasul

    Well, quick question!
I need an M2 memory card so I can play ISO games through CFW on my PSP GO?
    OR
Using my 16GB memory, and already using CFW (6.60 PRO-B10) how can I play my games? I add an “ISO” folder under PSP but on my PSP GO I don’t know where to find it.

Help will be very appreciated 🙂 ty

    • HcNguyen111

I think you have put the “ISO” folder in the wrong place… you said you “add an “ISO” folder under PSP”, does that mean you put “ISO” inside “PSP”????

…because if you did, that is wrong.

You should be putting the “ISO” folder next to the “PSP” folder, which means NOT inside, but on the same level.

After that you put your games (.iso/.cso) inside this new “ISO” Folder. Then on your PSP the games should be in the “Games” Menu inside “System Storage”.

    • toBsucht

recovery menu?! your psp still works (boot, xmb)? It sounds like it´s not bricked but you should be careful.. maybe try to disable all plugins and reboot your device. ..make sure you know what you do if you use cfw^^
