Installing Pro CFW on a PSP 2000 (slim)

Translations for this article:

Installing a Custom Firmware on your PSP 2000 has never been so easy. In this page I’m describing the easiest possible way for you to install the most reliable Custom Firmware on your PSP: Pro CFW.

As a PSP 2000 owner, depending on your motherboard type, there’s a chance you can use other techniques such as the Pandora Battery to install a Custom Firmware. If you are interested in the “advanced” Pandora Battery method, please go check that guide, or the “Power users” section below. If, on the other hand, you want to follow the easy method (which for now I recommend), please keep reading.

Installing Pro CFW on your PSP2000 is simple, free, and is not much risky than installing a Firmware update on your device. It does not require any advanced hack technique or hardware modification. There’s basically 3 easy steps (you were expecting more? Sorry to disappoint):

1. Download the necessary files

2. Update your PSP To firmware 6.60

Skip this step if you already have Firmware 6.60 installed on your PSP.

In order to install Pro CFW on your PSP, you will need to first update your PSP to the 6.60 Sony firmware (which, at the time of this writing, is the latest firmware released by Sony), if that’s not already the case. There are versions of Pro CFW that will run on older firmwares, but updating to 6.60 will guarantee the best compatibility for your official games.

To install the 6.60 Firmware, just unzip the archive on your PSP’s memory stick, in the “PSP” folder (you should end up with an “UPDATE” folder in the PSP folder, if you do things correctly), then run the update from your PSP menu.

3. Install Pro CFW

The Pro CFW archive provides several subfolders in the “PSP/GAME” folder. Two of them are interesting for us: the FastRecovery and the PROUPDATE folders. Those two need to be extracted to the PSP/GAME folder on your memory stick.

Assuming you extracted the files correctly, you will see a few new applications in your PSP’s Game menu. The one you will want to run in order to install Pro CFW is “Pro Update”. Just run it.

That’s it. You can erase the “ProUpdate” folder from your PSP, but keep the “FastRecovery” one.

4. DAILY USE

That’s it, I said 3 steps 🙂 Welcome to the world of Custom Firmwares. There’s no additional step required to install the Pro CFW. However, every time you reboot your console, you will have to reactivate ProCFW, which is done by running the Fast Recovery tool from your PSP’s Game menu, and takes literally 5 seconds.

5. Power user

In this section you will find additional tricks/steps if you want to improve or customize your experience with a Custom Firmware on your PSP 2000

Some people think that it is a burden to reactivate the CFW every time they reboot their console. It is important to note that this is needed only if you reboot the console, not if you put it into sleep mode. Most people use the sleep mode 90% of the time without ever realizing it. Trust me, I’ve used several PSPs for years now, running the Fast Recovery tool is not a problem in your daily usage. That being said, since you’re running on a PSP 2000, you have a possibility to install the CFW permanently, assuming that your motherboard is hackable. This is done by running the tool CIPL FLasher from the Pro CFW (included in the archive). I won’t dig into the details for that (just run the tool will do the trick), just know that I personally think this is a feature you won’t need (and there is an additional risk of bricking your PSP) unless you use your PSP for dev purposes.

    Hi wololo,

This is seems a very reliable article so I might as well ask here… I have been out in the loop on the latest CFW and I was stuck on my old 5.00 M33-6 (with Prometheus patch). I’ve been thinking if I should finally change my CFW. But I wanna know some things before doing it…

    1. What is the latest (and stable) Pro CFW so far?
    2. Is it safe to update it coming from 5.00 M33-6?
    3. Will my save data’s, plugins or even PSX EBOOT can run on the latest CFW?

Hope you could answer it. Thank you very much!

    • wololo

      1. Pro C fix4 is the latest version. Lots of people stick to Pro B
      2. Yes
      3. Some plugins might stop working. Not sure about PSX Eboots. Some save data might stop working, but this is not a problem with the CFW, it is a problem with Sony’s firmwares breaking *some* save files with the update (making them incompatible). This is rare AFAIK

Hi! I got PSP 2000 and I got it customized. It was working fine until it frozed and stopped working. Everytime I reset it and start Fast Recovery my PSP is frozen. My psp’s version is 6.60 and I’m using Fast recovery PRO 6.60.

How can I fix this? Please help.

I have a PSP2006 with 5.00 M33-6 (dont know if its Prometheus patch or not)but I had this long before. I have been doubting of changing it to latest CFW. If u could clarify some of my questions it would be much appreciated.

    1. Upgrading my 5.00 to 6.60 is the procedure and file above applies or would need a pre requirement before it can be upgraded?
    2. Will this upgrade to Pro can i still use my old games like MHF Unite and its save files??? it my fave game… and i want to simply use it for portable 3rd??
    3. Can u revert the changes or upgrade like from Pro CFW to 5.00 again if in case i find it not working on my old games???

  6. ha7ak3

    Hello! I have a non-hackable motherboard 🙁

That means I can install the CFW but not permanently! right?

    Help me please! 🙂

    Thanks in advance 😉

I recently found my psp 2000 and I checked the system software which is version 3.95. Does that mean my psp is compatible for the permanent CFW?

    Wonderful Guys,
    Cool ..

I updated My PSP 2000 from 6.31 Hen to to System Firmware 6.60 and my Everybody Sukkiri along with Prometheus loader stopped working.

Guess what, the Pro- Recovery and Pro Update helped me get my PSP to look like a new device to play now All my ISO can be played without the ISO loader..

    Thanks to all you Geeks.

    Luv & Respect,
    Arun

I’m currently using 5.50 Prome-4 cfw, and want to update to 6.60 pro c. I used a pandora battery at first to get my original cfw (it was some m33 version, I forget which) but I no longer have the pandora battery. If I update to OFW, will I be sc***? Trying to install from my 5.50 to the 6.60 pro c says “Sorry. This program doesn’t support your FW(0x05050010).” Is it ok for me to update to OFW? Will I still be able to put the CFW on? Even if it’s where I have to re-do the CFW any time it powers off, thats fine with me. I just don’t want to put the OFW back on and then be sc*** and unable to use my psp since I got rid of my UMDs

  10. kner

    all done withthe installations…
it may seem like a newbie question but can i play iso games now on my psp?
because i downloaded a game created a folder in games named “ISO” copied the game there and in my psp it recognizes it as corrupted data.
    any help?

  11. Megz

I am trying to add my games to my memory stick and i cant seem to get them to work. keeps showing data corrupted. the hack worked fine but i cant get the games to work?

    • DatSikBoyz

Ok create a new file name ISO (exactly like that), and you can put your games in there.
Next go to the home screen on your PSP
      Press Select
Choose UMD ISO MODE => SONY NP9660
      Voila!
      Mine works like a BAWS

      • toBsucht

umd iso mode = iso driver Sony NP is the orginal which isn´t as fast as m33 (from old gen)or the new pro driver which should be the best^
“Ok create a new file name ISO”
btw i got to ISO floder 1 at the root (close to PSP floder)
and 2nd inside PSP/GAME to show isos in xmb. Not sure if 2 floders are still needed.

        • HT

Just a note guys, the ISO folder goes in the root folder, not in PSP. So you should be able to see both ISO and PSP from the main folder.

  12. Matt

When I ran Pro Update, I got an error message saying: Sorry. This program doesn’t support your FW*random ****

    • Ulip

yes, me too. what we do?

    • toBsucht

you don´t have 6.60 ofw installed.

    • hanna sheree

got the same problem. i tried to install 6.60 but it says that i have 9.90 firmware and does not need an update but i only have 5.50 prome-4 fw..

      • bob

hahhahahaha, welcome to the past hanna. I guess your only option is to wait until sony itself releases the official 9.90 FW so that it could get cracked and turned into cfw

      • EzpadaZ

You have “9.90” because past in the days i don’t remember if it was for playing online or bypassing updates…. or both… who knows. Yet you have a version.txt somewhere i your psp. 5.50? For gods sake update now….

      • Dash

Press select on your psp then change usb device to flash 0.

Connect your psp on your computer go to vsh folder.

Go to etc folder and open version txt.

Change release from 9.90 to 5.50 and save.

Console is ready to be updated to 6.60 then Pro C2 as per normal.

  13. Curtis Guy

Thank you very much for this it was extremely helpful.

  14. HHH

Hello, my PSP is a 2001 model on 5.50 GEN-D3.

Just making sure I am good to go before I install the firmware as I don’t want to risk turning my PSP into a paperweight. If plugins must be disabled, please tell me how to do so.

    • toBsucht

Maybe you use a faked version text, than change it to 5.50. Yes, disable plugins and reboot into ofw than you can go one with Wololos tut. Search such questions at www. …
..it´s answered often at this blog^

    Hi.

Just performed this procedure on my 2004. No problems in running the procedure. However now i have problems with my joystick. It seems to continously go up (eg when playing games or the internet browser). I have tried a spare stick and contact rubber with no result.

Can this be due to the ofw upgrade and cfw installation?
Is there a way to go back to an older ofw to check?
    Any ideas?

    Thanks.

    • Div

Try using joysens, you can change the sensitivity of the analog stick. The stick sensor is probably damaged.

      • cb

        Hi Div,
I have installed joysense and checked the stick.
The y axis remains on -128 continously, no matter if I move the joystick up or down.

Could it be that something on the motherboard is not ok?

        Thanks.

    • DJ McMahon

I had the same problem but I doubt that it’s the CFW. Take apart your PSP and remove your joystick. Then unscrew the mount that it is on and take a Q-tip and gently clean the golden plates and also where the black square thing that the joystick sits on, try to swab the inside aswell. and put everything back together and you’re done. ^.^

I’d like to play a backup of a Japanese game which I bought in Japan on 5.00 m33, instead of updating to the PRO or GEN systems. I’ve tried patching the ISO that I made of the disc using ISO tool, but the game always crashes ( it doesn’t even boot me back into the XMB ). It’s the same whether I patch it or not. What could be the problem? This seems to be the case for all the recent 6.60 games released in Japan. ( I have a few )

My PSP is a fully hackable 2000 running 5.00 m33-6 and I use the prometheus patch ( installed using RedSquirrel’s prometheus installer, and I installed all to flash ). I have the original UMD and the update included on the disc is for 6.60. Any pointers? Thanks in advance!

  25. and2nckiko

hi..my psp system software is 5.50 prome-4 can i apply this guide to my psp?is there any possibility of brick? thanks in advance.

    • wololo

Yes, this should work. Be sure to install 6.60 OFW first. The risk of brick is minimal, it is basically the same risk as when you install an official firmware from Sony. So basically, no risk unless you unplug the device while the CFW is installing

  26. mattlikestoplay

my cfw is 5.50 prome-4 as well, but when i update it says that my version is 9.90 and does not need to update T_T what do i do?

  28. Rafael

Hello, my PSP is a 2001 model on 5.50 GEN-D3.

First I got the 9.90 problem, then i changed the version in the txt file on the flash… now when i try to run the OFW 6.60 it’s says “This Game Cannot be Started”.

Tryed to download it again, extracted it again on the right folder, but it keeps giving me the same messege… 🙁

I don’t know what to do anymore. Anyone got this problem?

    THX

    • toBsucht

You can get the update (ofw)from Sony with the use of wifi..
Then you get the correct update file in the correct floder
as long as Sony release no update.

  29. Kevin

Hello, I have a PSP Slim 2000, I have it on OFW 6.60, I have downloaded the PRO B10 CFW, and I extracted the appropriate files to the “GAME” folder. When I run the update, my screen is black (or blank what have you) it sits for about 15-30 seconds, and then just turns off. The option to install the CFW never appears. Any help you can provide would be amazing.

    • Kevin

My Apologies, it’s a 2001 Model, I think that still classifies, but I wanted to be as technical as possible. I ran the Module Checker, and the motherboard is a 02G, the FW Build is 5445,0,3,1,0

  30. hanna sheree

  39. Domtorreto

I have done everything as per the procedure but when i run the cipl flasher it says that this is not supported by your model. Please suggest me some help soon.

  40. rak

useless. didn’t help whatsoever. very nondescriptive and far too vague to help at all.

    • wololo

Lol, it’s because the process is so simple a 5 year old kid could do it. No need for useless descriptions when the process is that simple. Of course if you don’t know how to decompress a file or plug your psp to your computer, then what you are looking for is “computers for dummies” instead of this guide 🙂
