Installing a Custom Firmware on your PSP 1000 has never been so easy. In this page I’m describing the easiest possible way for you to install the most reliable Custom Firmware on your PSP: Pro CFW.
As a PSP 1000 owner, you can practically install everything you want on your device, and use other techniques such as the Pandora Battery to install a Custom Firmware. If you are interested in the “advanced” Pandora Battery method, please go check that guide, or the “Power users” section below. If, on the other hand, you want to follow the easy method (which for now I recommend), please keep reading.
Installing Pro CFW on your PSP1000 is simple, free, and is not much risky than installing a Firmware update on your device. It does not require any advanced hack technique or hardware modification. There’s basically 3 easy steps (you were expecting more? Sorry to disappoint):
1. Download the necessary files
2. Update your PSP To firmware 6.60
Skip this step if you already have Firmware 6.60 installed on your PSP.
In order to install Pro CFW on your PSP, you will need to first update your PSP to the 6.60 Sony firmware (which, at the time of this writing, is the latest firmware released by Sony), if that’s not already the case. There are versions of Pro CFW that will run on older firmwares, but updating to 6.60 will guarantee the best compatibility for your official games.
To install the 6.60 Firmware, just unzip the archive on your PSP’s memory stick, in the “PSP” folder (you should end up with an “UPDATE” folder in the PSP folder, if you do things correctly), then run the update from your PSP menu.
Trouble upgrading? Ask for help on our forums
3. Install Pro CFW
The Pro CFW archive provides several subfolders in the “PSP/GAME” folder. Two of them are interesting for us: the FastRecovery and the PROUPDATE folders. Those two need to be extracted to the PSP/GAME folder on your memory stick.
Assuming you extracted the files correctly, you will see a few new applications in your PSP’s Game menu. The one you will want to run in order to install Pro CFW is “Pro Update”. Just run it.
That’s it. You can erase the “ProUpdate” folder from your PSP, but keep the “FastRecovery” one.
4. DAILY USE
That’s it, I said 3 steps
Welcome to the world of Custom Firmwares. There’s no additional step required to install the Pro CFW. However, every time you reboot your console, you will have to reactivate ProCFW, which is done by running the Fast Recovery tool from your PSP’s Game menu, and takes literally 5 seconds.
5. Power user
In this section you will find additional tricks/steps if you want to improve or customize your experience with a Custom Firmware on your PSP 1000
Some people think that it is a burden to reactivate the CFW every time they reboot their console. It is important to note that this is needed only if you reboot the console, not if you put it into sleep mode. Most people use the sleep mode 90% of the time without ever realizing it. Trust me, I’ve used several PSPs for years now, running the Fast Recovery tool is not a problem in your daily usage. That being said, since you’re running on a PSP 1000, you have a possibility to install the CFW permanently. This is done by running the tool CIPL FLasher from the Pro CFW (included in the archive). I won’t dig into the details for that (just run the tool will do the trick), just know that I personally think this is a feature you won’t need (and there is an additional risk of bricking your PSP) unless you use your PSP for dev purposes.

Thank but i want the tuto in PDF Or Word format.
Thanks -
Hi, does this copy any files to the PSP’s flash memory (flash0, flash1)?
-
I used your link to download the OFW and when I went to install it, it said the version was 6.66 and not 6.60. Will 6.66 still work for Pro CFW? My understanding is no…just wanted your input. Thanks.
-
worked great! easy to follow.. was about to make a pandora now i dont have to thanks

How do I install homebrew? I have downloaded NesterJ and tried dragging the “nesterj” and “nesterj%” files to my GAME and GAME1.50 directory but it gives me an error upon booting.

I recently dug out my fat PSP and upgraded from 5.00 to 6.60 Pro B10, works fine. Except when using Emulators.
I’m able to see the emulator in my game folder on the XMB, and have installed Roms into a folder that I can navigate to, only problem is when I press load rom the screen blacks out and I have to reset the PSP.
Any suggestions as to why this may be happening? Or just a bad rom/emulator? Or no idea whatsoever?
Hard to find an answer for PSP related issues these days, since the scene is just about dead

-
Hey,
Thanks for the write-up. I’m totally new to this, but if it is this easy to load a CFW, why bother with this ‘Pandora Battery and Magic MS’ thing?
Is that just an older (and tougher) method?
Regards,
Mo -
Thank you for the CFW guide, now I am playing my favourite Playstation games on my PSP! =D

Hey, well I’m new in this I just have some questions…
Do I need to check if my motherboard is “hackable”?
Once I do this, can I still run original and new UMDs?
Where can I download ISOs for free?
Any ISO will run correctly?
Sorry for so many questions, but I’m really interested on this and I rlly don’t want to have that brick thing…
Thanks. Waiting for your answer. -

Hey,
Just a quick question.
I am running 5.50 prome-4 on my psp 1000. Do I have to first upgrade to OFW 6.60 and then install Pro CFW or should i only instal Pro CFW without updating? I am asking because i’d like to know if it’s dangerous to upgrade to OFW from a CFW.
Thanks in advance
-

Hello, everyone.
I own phat psp (PSP-1001 bought in the States) and slim psp as well as Vita now. I decided to put CFW in my phat PSP as I did for the SLIM one years ago. The SLIM works perfectly like a charm but when I installed 6.60 PRO (B10 fix btw fyi) on PHAT, it ocassionaly freezes during game play.Seems like it freezes (not always but frequently) when checking memory stick to save progress. Also it is not complete freeze, as music keeps playing (and does not loop in short / does not auto restart) but the game just cannot be proceeded as the screen shows “checking memory stick” and won’t respond to any input but power button.
I’m using legit Sony memory card freshly bought couple days ago. Is there any known solution or issue on this weird situation?
Thanks to those in advance for input
love you all. -
Can i upgrade from m33-2 to OFW without problems? (and then cfw pro b-10!)

(use cfw ver.) http://www.mediafire.com/?598a9bl9xbuf74r and writte it to flash. or this is 5.00 txt if you don´t wanna use a app http://www.mediafire.com/?ll4i4ycmijok9vs

I already have PRO B9 installed in my psp 1003 (module 1), is it safe that i just run the pro updater w/out running the 6.60 ofw updater? And if not..will running the ofw update delete my games/savefiles?

Hi i got a question. i planning to get the cfw on my psp (phat). can i remove the memory card and insert A DIFFERENT memmory card without getting the PSP messed up or something. please answer and thank you.

I’ve installed Pr CFW on a PSP 1000, everything seems to be working well. Just that I can’t access the video settings, system settings, theme settngs, etc.
It would hang and later switches off. -

Hi and thanks for the great news.
My phat 1000 is on Pro-B10 and with the CIPL Flasher step completed.
Do i need to go back to 6.60 OFW to go to Pro-C?
And will in need to run the new CIPL Flasher supplied with the Pro-C archive after i’ve upgraded to Pro-C?
thanks!!!!
-
Updated from 5.00 m33-6 to OFW then to PRO CFW-C, easy and it works great
only problem is I lost some of my save files (Persona 2 & 3, Corpse Party, Tactics Ogre, havent checked the others) but luckily some were kept (Monster Hunter Unite (thank god) Gods Eater) strange thing though after playing for a week I let my psp die (didnt charge even though batt was blinking already) then I boot it up again and it restarted so I ran the fast recovery again then played normally but when I checked my Gods Eater Burst save file it was gone, not corrupt but gone. deleted ??… I wasnt playing Gods Eater when the psp died by the way, I was playing Tactics Ogre and its save file was still in tact… weird, just remember to back up saves periodically I guess -

I HAVE A PSP PHAT, WITH ISO GAMES. DO I NEED ANY HOMBREWS TO RUN THE ISO’S? AND WHICH ONES WILL WORK WITH THE CFW THATS ON THIS PAGE?
-
My PSP updates to 6.60 from 5.50 Gen-D3 Prome 4 fine after editing version.txt, but after I install the PRO CFW, it doesn’t reboot, just turns off, and when I turn it back on it didn’t install. I have a Phat PSP. I always end up just retuning to 5.50 Gen-D3 with my Pandora. Can anyone help me?
-
You didn´t installed 6.60fw if you are still on 5.50^^
-
-
What about the ‘seplugins’ folder in the archive/package, is it not required to be copied to the ms too? Thanks in advance.
-
no isn´t required .. the plugins are related to the ~recovery menu, online server etc.
-
so what are the plug-ins included for you say? when are they needed? Thankyou.

Hi I have a psp 1001 and I already have version 6.60 updated, I’m trying run the pro-b 10 that I already put in my game folder in my psp. When I click on the pro update to install it, it brings me up to the black screen saying press x to launch cfw, so I press x and then it says press x to start cfw, so I do and then my psp just turns all black and turns off 5 seconds later. I know it’s suppose to reboot automatically to install but it doesn’t install it. Is their anyway to fix this, appreciate it if you can help me and thank you for taking the time to read this.
-
Same here, except mine doesn’t turn off by itself, I have to reboot it, I didn’t have this problem from the beginning, it just started all of a sudden. I already tried uninstalling it and reinstalling it again but no luck, the reinstall option won’t work, I keep holding the ‘L’ shoulder button but nothing happens. Please help us, thanks.
-
@Adrian: I think I’ve found what causes the problem. Do you have your PSP plugged-in to the wall’s AC power when performing this operation? because that’s what was causing mines problem, apparently the PSP can’t be plugged-in to the wall’s AC power when either installing or reactivating the CFw?
-
Sorry, that’s not the problem, because it just happened to me again, I think it’s a plug-in that’s causing it, I just don’t know which one it is.
-
Found it, it was ‘Game categories Revised v12′, I’m guessing is not compatible, but there are newer versions, which I didn’t know until now that I made a search, the latest one is ‘Game categories Lite v1.4′ I believe, I haven’t downloaded and tried it yet but it supposedly supports 6.60 so it should work. I don’t know if this was your problem but hopefully this helped you.
-
-
-
as Josuemental wrote old plugins and themes maybe not compatible with your the new cfw. Try to disable them ..pandora?! If you used plugins at flash^^
@Josuemental i use game categories without any problem and i doubt that it´s a reason why you have problems with your ac-power and the use of it should never be a problem for you hacked psp

will i still be able to use the save from 5.50 prome4
if i update to 6.60 cfw?
because i remember when i update from 3.** to 5.00 m33-*
the save data cannot be loaded.
now i have 5.50 prome4 but i do not want to lose my save. -
If I already installed the Pro CFw, can I safely go to the PSN while on the OFw without getting banned? thanks in advance.
-
You shouldn´t get into trouble if you´re on 6.60ofw

If you are on cfw you have to do some tricks.-
What I mean is that I already have the Pro CFW installed, but my question is that if I can safely go into the SEN/PSN without fear of getting banned when the Pro CFw is not activated (but installed), I mean, is there a way for Sony to detect that my PSP has a CFw installed if I go into the SEN/PSN while running in the OFw? Thanks in advance
-
No they don´t ban you.
You can use pro cfw on psn to use screenshot plugins or the full cpu power but don´t cheat or a ban is likely.
I´m not 100% sure since ~pro-b you can use it on SEN without psnlover idk debug type II & fake region.

Thnx. Worked perfectly!
-
there are so many cfw link, which one????
-
I’m a noob to all of this, but i installed 6.60 Pro C and i also downloaded a game called Black Rock Shooter The Game. I made BRS into an iso and when i start it up, it shows the PSP logo and then turns black. After a few seconds, it takes me to the home and says error 80010002. If you need details on anything, let me know.
-
Thanks aloooooooooooot. This was the most simple method in Internet and I was searching like hell for a week. Thank you so much. worked greaT!!!!!!!!!
Thanks thanks thanks thanks!!!!! -
I have a PSP 1k and 6.60 OFW and it works perfectly! TYVM!! I was looking for a couple hours on youtube and google till i found this one. So stoked!
-
Thanks a lot for the help. One thing that was incorrect in your tutorial is where you put the 6.60 OFW. You didn’t actually say put it in PSP/GAME, just PSP. Anyways, when I realized where the update was supposed to go, everything went great. Wow CFW Pro C installs HELLA fast. Thank you again, you made this A LOT easier for me. I’ve been out of the loop for a while letting my PSP collect dust. Brushed it off and had CFW 5.50 Gen B (full) on my PSP. So confirmed, this tut works and my iso’s are working too. I couldn’t get Angry Birds to work on my old firmware. This fixed it! So happy, thank you again! <3
-
Novice alert! lol alright so Im running firefox and when I download this it doesn’t give me an area of my choosing to send it to none the less I drag it over to psp-psp/game file extract it, move into start updateing my psp with this software but I get 6.35 what am I doing wrong? I only want to do this Custom Firmware once to play my legit copy of .hack//link so I can attach an english language patch.
-
