Installing Pro CFW on a PSP 1000 (PSP Phat)

Installing a Custom Firmware on your PSP 1000 has never been so easy. In this page I’m describing the easiest possible way for you to install the most reliable Custom Firmware on your PSP: Pro CFW.

As a PSP 1000 owner, you can practically install everything you want on your device, and use other techniques such as the Pandora Battery to install a Custom Firmware. If you are interested in the “advanced” Pandora Battery method, please go check that guide, or the “Power users” section below. If, on the other hand, you want to follow the easy method (which for now I recommend), please keep reading.

Installing Pro CFW on your PSP1000 is simple, free, and is not much risky than installing a Firmware update on your device. It does not require any advanced hack technique or hardware modification. There’s basically 3 easy steps (you were expecting more? Sorry to disappoint):

1. Download the necessary files

2. Update your PSP To firmware 6.60

Skip this step if you already have Firmware 6.60 installed on your PSP.

In order to install Pro CFW on your PSP, you will need to first update your PSP to the 6.60 Sony firmware (which, at the time of this writing, is the latest firmware released by Sony), if that’s not already the case. There are versions of Pro CFW that will run on older firmwares, but updating to 6.60 will guarantee the best compatibility for your official games.

To install the 6.60 Firmware, just unzip the archive on your PSP’s memory stick, in the “PSP” folder (you should end up with an “UPDATE” folder in the PSP folder, if you do things correctly), then run the update from your PSP menu.

3. Install Pro CFW

The Pro CFW archive provides several subfolders in the “PSP/GAME” folder. Two of them are interesting for us: the FastRecovery and the PROUPDATE folders. Those two need to be extracted to the PSP/GAME folder on your memory stick.

Assuming you extracted the files correctly, you will see a few new applications in your PSP’s Game menu. The one you will want to run in order to install Pro CFW is “Pro Update”. Just run it.

That’s it. You can erase the “ProUpdate” folder from your PSP, but keep the “FastRecovery” one.

4. DAILY USE

That’s it, I said 3 steps 🙂 Welcome to the world of Custom Firmwares. There’s no additional step required to install the Pro CFW. However, every time you reboot your console, you will have to reactivate ProCFW, which is done by running the Fast Recovery tool from your PSP’s Game menu, and takes literally 5 seconds.

5. Power user

In this section you will find additional tricks/steps if you want to improve or customize your experience with a Custom Firmware on your PSP 1000

Some people think that it is a burden to reactivate the CFW every time they reboot their console. It is important to note that this is needed only if you reboot the console, not if you put it into sleep mode. Most people use the sleep mode 90% of the time without ever realizing it. Trust me, I’ve used several PSPs for years now, running the Fast Recovery tool is not a problem in your daily usage. That being said, since you’re running on a PSP 1000, you have a possibility to install the CFW permanently. This is done by running the tool CIPL FLasher from the Pro CFW (included in the archive). I won’t dig into the details for that (just run the tool will do the trick), just know that I personally think this is a feature you won’t need (and there is an additional risk of bricking your PSP) unless you use your PSP for dev purposes.

Hi. I have a sony psp 1000/ phat. I tried updating the software to 6. 60 and it just went blank and now when I try to power it on, it just shows the green light and that’s it. I strongly believe it’s fully bricked. I then tried booting it to recovery mode and still, it does not power up. Please help me I’m really desperate. Thanks in advance

i had this problem. it shows green light and then it turns back off. no, i fixed it by using pandora battery. as soon as i put in pandora battery it entered recovery mode and from there i just installed the cfw 6.60. you can reinstall official sony 6.60 from this recovery mode too if you like.

but you need to MAKE your battery into a pandora battery which you can’t do. cuz your psp won’t turn on. so ask a friend who has CFW on their psp to make the pandora battery or go on ebay and buy a pandora battery.

your psp is not broken. it just needs to enter recovery mode.

I am teaching myself about programming by reading pages like these, however, I cannot find enough context to look up what the author means when he says ” unless you use your PSP for *[DEV]* purposes.” could someone give me more information on what he means, or direct me to somewhere I can find out?”

it means that you use your PSP to test your homebrew apps developed under the current psp devkit and sideloading them straight to the PSP

Hi, I have a strange problem. I do not know what happens I have a psp fat 1000. I did not have a psp 5.50 prome-4 system and it was good (I do not know why I changed soft). I changed to 6.61 cfw. However, the battery died and Permanent change has disappeared! I changed the soft on the original 6.20, later on 6.20 pro-B8 + Pernament, took out the batteries and soft again disappeared …. What happens?

I’m currently dual boot 6.39 me and pro. Should I upgrade to the 6.60 or 6.61 cfw. Is there a work around for games that need the 6.61 firmware to still run on 6.39? I have it setup for playing ps1 games and all psp titles from memory card. Just wondering if it is worth it and how much I will gain or lose from the change. Thank you

instead of installing 6.60 just install 6.61 official firmware on your psp then install the 6.61 custom firmware. then go ahead & install the infinity custom firmware.

after you create a working pandora battery & jigstick use this tool to reinstall the original pandora menu so you can downgrade to 1.50
do not use the battery option or the memory stick option. follow on screen instructions.
put the folder in the psp/game folder as usual.

note: a pandora battery (psp battery) & jigstick (memory card) will help you unbrick your psp & downgrade it back to 1.50 official sony firmware. you can then reupdate to 6.61 & be back in action in no time.

*BRICK means if your psp suddenly starts to malfunction or not boot to the psp menu.*
basically it means if you mess about with your psp too much you might encounter a problem & this will help you as a just in case.

Hello everyone, I’m looking for a little support. My PSP 1000 fat has CFW installed and everything was working great and still does for the CFW. My issue is that out of the blue the Home row of buttons, not all are working. They did work at one point and I believe worked for a while on CFW. The strange thing is that the Home, Select, and Start buttons work but the volume, brightness and music type buttons aren’t working. Volume buttons work on the PSP wired headphones media adapter and show on screen when pressed on the media adapter. I have removed and installed twice two new button wire membrane boards. Neither are working, two gold coper type and one clear type. They membrane board is seated in the ziff socket as far as it will go. Do you think it’s a software possibly CFW issue or the actual main board of the PSP itself? Thanks in advance
