What is it?
This page is for HBL on the Sukkiri Demo. This exploit works for PSPs on firmware up to 6.35 included, and requires the demo of the game Minna no sukkiri which can be downloaded here.
If you have a firmware 6.36 or lower, we suggest that you give a try to a Homebrew Enabler which will enhance your experience. Some versions of the Hen don’t require HBL to run, although some users might still need to use HBL in some cases.

Half-Byte Loader (HBL) is an open source Homebrew Loader for the Sony PSP. It allows to play fan-made games on any PSP up to firmware 6.35. HBL allows to run emulators for the Game Boy, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo 64, Sega Megadrive, NES, Super NES… and many other applications.
On this page you will find downloads for the latest version, patched games that improve compatibility, the savegames necessary to trigger the exploit, and other cool stuff. New releases are announced on my blog here

HBL is a work in progress and sometimes it might fail to load your favorite homebrew. However we believe it is harmless for your PSP and I personally test my work on several PSPs before releasing it. We are also confident that this program cannot “brick” your psp and it will not void your Sony Warranty.

No. Don’t update.
Maybe Total_Noob release HEN for 6.30/6.31 first.
And if you update to 6.35 you need to wait longer.
Sukkiri Exploit work on 6.31 OFW too. Why you want to update? -

Links do work!……but if you are using Chrome or Firefox then you may have a hard time, switch to Internet Explorer for a minute and download without any problems…..

My system is psp 3001. Purchased it during black friday 2010, the karate kid and LBP with 1gb memory card bundle. It came with OFW 6.31 and upgraded it to 6.35 to get the upgrade for LBP. I did not know I can download upgrades using the computer at the time. One of the thing I noticed my hand crams after playing for 20-30 mins.
Anyway, I installed the HBL 6.35 and it works well. I download and tested the Bookr from wololo’s 15 essential homebrew link. It also works well. However I downloaded the snes9xTYL and mh gpspkai from the same link. Unfortunately neither worked. The snes9xTYL does not load and freezes at a white screen. From there whole system freezes. The roms are placed in the rom folder (I don’t know if there are any bios for this system, and I own the cartridge-super mario all star) I could not turn it offf so I took off the battery and put it back and restart the system. The mh gpspkai loads well and after selecting a rom (I own both cartridges-harvest moon, dragonball z) from the menu but on the right side it says no game found or something similar. I can explore all the menu on the software, but can’t load the roms.
Can anyone tell me if I am doing something wrong? Thanks in advance.

One thing….if you ever have the problem where the PSP will NOT shut off, you just hold UP on the power button and HOLD for like 10 seconds or something. It will turn itself off…then let go of the button.

For the mh gpspkai you will need the GBA Bios http://www.mediafire.com/?aylfnzmpyeb just drag and drop (or copy/past) onto the main section inside the emulator. You will need to make a ROMS folder inside the GBA folder that is in your emulator also…..to put your games. Then when you start the emulator you might need to direct your emulator (once) to the location of the ROMS by choosing it from the list shown.

Thanks for the tip on the freeze. As for GBA, I do have have the bios file in the folder. The rom folder is already included. The system did gave me an option to choose the roms automatically (the rom files are unzipped). Once I select the rom, I just get a no image message on the right side. But I’ll try the link you provided and see if works.

i didn’t work at mine.. i got a psp ofw 6.35..
I downloaded it with a macbook… could it be the problem?-
the problem was the mac… it work when i used a pc…

Hmm.. Still having some issues with larger roms in MVSPSP/CPS2PSP as well as Daedalus. Not enough memory…
I think this should be possible to fix as it now is much better than with the first HBL release for Sukkiri. The R109 did not load Last blade 2 in MVSPSP whereas R112 does load it. Just not Garou and Metal Slug 3… -

Hi Wololo,
Just try the Sukkiri exploit with 2000v3 with 6.36OFW and HBL R112.
After load the game and select continue, the screen black and then jump to the XMB but not the HBL.Is it normal? since in HBL R112, it said its for firmware 5.XX o 6.36

hi, i’m new so i’m really not to sure of the etiquette for forums but I hope someone can help me. Like Alexander, I am currently on firmware 6.31 on my psp go and was wondering should I upgrade to 6.35 firmware? this being that i want to sign into my PSN account.

DON’T upgrade .
Unless you absolutely need to onto PSN from your PSP – you can buy games etc on a PC using Media Go, that’s what I do for the stuff I want to pay for.
I have a PSP-GO with OFW 6.31 (like that when I got it) and I use the sukkiri exploit for now.
BUT the main point is, there will be a HEN coming from Total_Noob and we don’t yet know for which OFW/firmware it will be for first..
I’m sure interested in the HEN since it should enable more stuff, like converted PSX games and so on . -
DO NOT UPDATE, hbl worked fine on my psp 3001 OFW 6.31 with mini no sukkuri (something like that), some problems with some emulators, but no big deal, DO NOT UPFATE

I test this HBL in 6.35.
It works very well and I play very weel in Picodrive, Snesxtyle and emulators of gameboy Adv and Mastersystem.
GPKai needs a GBA BIOS
I test too the HEN 6.20, don´t works in 6.35, teh PSP is freeze if you use HEN 6.20 in 6.35
I test Prometheus ISO loader and don´t works in 6.35, the program returns you to the HBL patch and you can select another homebrew.
Thanks wololo for your work, I think that in a few days you launch HEN and ISO loader for 6.35.

KHYLEBRA7: did you install ALL the files of wagic correctly? You should have a folder PSP/GAME/WTH AND a folder PSP/wagic_res. Be sure that you have both these folders (with stuff inside) on your machine!

You unzip the exploit, put the “hbl” and “h.bin” in the root of your memory stick(Where PICTURE,VIDEO, and MUSIC, are located). Put the demo in the “GAME” folder. Now run the demo on your psp and when it loads press “O”, HBL should load.

I’m not a hacker nor do I know much about the topic … I was just wondering …….. I know HBL uses a user exploit … and tn hen uses a kernel exploit … couldn’t HBL also take advantage of the kernel exploit as well? Wouldn’t that improve HBL’s ability to use homebrew?
