What is it?

This page is for HBL on the Sukkiri Demo. This exploit works for PSPs on firmware up to 6.35 included, and requires the demo of the game Minna no sukkiri which can be downloaded here.

If you have a firmware 6.36 or lower, we suggest that you give a try to a Homebrew Enabler which will enhance your experience. Some versions of the Hen don’t require HBL to run, although some users might still need to use HBL in some cases.

Half-Byte Loader (HBL) is an open source Homebrew Loader for the Sony PSP. It allows to play fan-made games on any PSP up to firmware 6.35. HBL allows to run emulators for the Game Boy, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo 64, Sega Megadrive, NES, Super NES… and many other applications.

HBL is a work in progress and sometimes it might fail to load your favorite homebrew. However we believe it is harmless for your PSP and I personally test my work on several PSPs before releasing it. We are also confident that this program cannot “brick” your psp and it will not void your Sony Warranty.

HBL is open source, the compiled versions I provide are a compiled version of the sources available freely here

If you’ve been following the PS3 scene you know team fail0verflow has crippled the PS3 security in its entirety, and with that geohot has shared the keys — the keys that can be used to sign any 3rd party code, meaning custom firmwares and all types of homebrew are heading towards a PS3 near (or in) your entertainment cabinet. That in mind, with some other hacks, Mathieulh has revealed he is now able to sign anything PSP (he found the KIRK encryption/decryption keys) — I’m talking EBOOTs, prxs, custom firmwares — all signed and headed towards your PSP too.

What does all this mean? Well now no hacks are needed for anything really… With these keys we’re able to “sign” anything, and as far as the PSP/PS3 is concerned, it’s official — officially signed as if Sony themselves signed off on it. Pretty cool, huh? As pat_boy2008 says, shit just got real

This means that you dont need a CFW/HEN to run homebrew you just sign the games/applications yourself just like your from sony.

So don’t update because Sony will patch it with a new firmware and than you need new codes.

And if you on OFW 6.35 don’t update if you want a ISOloader and working HBL.

@wololo: will TN work on a downgrader for 6.35 so he doesn’t have to work on a 6.35 HEN?

how do i load it up to enter hen mode, i installed all the files onto my psp 2001 with 6.35 but the demo is in japanese and even if i justm try random buttons it goes to a screen where it doesnt move and it has some words in japanese

OK, so I got it working (thanks to all involved), but it only launches the HBL menu once every four or five times. All other times it starts, I get the first three lines or so of the loading code and then black screen. Any ideas?

ok so i now realize that this game demo is running like a normal demo, and i must of placed the hbl in the wrong folder because my psp doesnt show anything near a command prompt when i load the demo

Good Morning. My PSP is 5.01 version and i want to know if is good to update for 5.03 version or another version that run better the homebrews? How i can update only for 5.03 version or a indicated version, since if i update by my PSP will go to the newerest version? I look for some way different the chichen because he use kernel mode and i think taht it could be dangerous ou let me loose de guarantee. THank you for your time and helpe and i wish a happy new year for all.

  @Carlos, here is the link to 5.03 UPDATE. http://www.psp-hacks.com/file/1645 after download is complete…make you an UPDATE folder (all capital letters) on your computer desktop…now double click (or right click and extract to) your 5.03 firmware to that UPDATE folder you just made. *Get winrar if you don’t have it yet….search google (to extract the file) Once the file is in the update folder you can connect your PSP and put this folder you made into the folder called GAME (it’s inside the PSP folder on the PSP). After it has completed the upload to PSP…then disconnect the data cable. Be SURE the battery is full charged or the power cord is attached to the PSP. Now go to the GAME icon on your PSP and you will see the 5.03 update. Follow the instructions with the X button on right direction button (or what ever is needed) You CANNOT stop the update once the bar graph starts (don’t need to anyway). Just sit the machine down gently and watch for any more instructions. You will be on 5.03 after complete if you follow instructions correctly. FINISHED

  Go here http://wololo.net/wagic/hbl/, find the numbers down the page that match the firmware you have on your PSP. The files you need will be on the page linked to the firmware numbers.

Got a PSP Go with 6.35 OFW, when i try to load HBL through the sukkiri demo i get a black screen then it returns to the XMB. What am i doing wrong as i followed the read me instructions and have everything in the right place.

  First format your MS pro duo
  second open te readme file and folow every step in the details and don’t forget one!
  unplug your mini USB from your psp and start de demowhen in the menu of the demo just press O because if you choose the other it will overwrite your current hacked save so that’s why HBL don’t work for you.
  
  I had the same problem and on the 6.31/.35 exploit homebrew isn’t always working and your psp crashes and you have to reinstall the hen bij starting the game.

    Having the same problem. Not using a memory stick as I have seen tutorials where they copy directly to the PSP Go. Deleted everything, re-tried, still having the problem. Thanks in advance for any help.

      @cheeze, Check to be sure WHAT your Firmware says….if you did it properly it SHOULD go back to XMB. If you did everything correctly your Software Version will have “PRO” in the title. YES…..on a PSP Go just use the internal memory (is what I use).

  Delete everything you installed for the exploit (all) get a fresh download again….hold UP on power button of your PSP for 10 seconds to FLUSH any RAM. TRY again………………with a fresh install. Operator error most likely. Here….I give you a link. Just put EVERYTHING on the ROOT of memory. *Be SURE you remove the other FAILED files first. You will *NEED* to accept the overwrite popup also. Is okay — trust me…. http://www.megaupload.com/?d=PCTB61FM You will just put ALL these files in the area on PSP that has the Picture,Video,PSP,…..folders. Just drop them anywhere (NOT inside any other folders….) Click YES to allow any overwrites. You will put your ISO (psp game copies) In the ISO folder I made….and any emulators and their ROMS goes in the GAME folder (inside the PSP folder). Now disconnect PSP from Computer and Start the Sukkiri game under GAME icon on PSP. WAIT until you see the flashing –> (arrow) on the game menu and THEN click the “O” button once…..After you click the “O” button on the Sukkiri game the PSP will eventually go back the the XMB (start page of the PSP menu)….from there you can find the new firmware is now 6.35 PRO. *IF your fully turn off PSP you will be back to regular 6.35 with NO hacks. To shut down PSP (and SAVE HEN) just push UP on the Power Button for 1 second (goes into SLEEP MODE) and keeps the HEN in the RAM. If for some reason the PSP ever gets STUCK, just hold UP on the Power Button for 10 seconds and it will FORCE shut down. If FORCE shut down or FULL power off, you will need to RUN the Sukkiri Demo again to enable the HEN. With the SLEEP MODE enabled…you keep HEN in reserve–but it takes away from battery power slowly.   @Unubis, you MIGHT not need to install EVERYTHING like I “said”. I should have read your question better……it is SUPPOSED to go back to the XMB when it is installed correctly Go over to System Settings/System Information and check to see IF you are running 6.35 PRO (now). If it is PRO you are there

  The ROOT is the area on PSP after you connect to computer….and it shows the folders PSP,VIDEO,PICTURE,……you will just put “things” in this area when it says “put in ROOT”. Just put them anywhere inside this area, but NOT into any folder unless TOLD to do it.

  Does your PSP return back to the PSP menu after the HBL as 6.35 PRO?
  
  If it’s in wMenu or a similar custom menu an iso loader may not run correctly

whenever i use hbl in a lot of apps,and even when i dont use hb to try and run somthing it goes the menu after a while of blacksceen.i have 6.60 and psp 2000
