Half-Byte Loader for the golf exploit (OFW 6.30/6.31)

Important announcement

I am not supporting the HBL for the golf exploit anymore, and this page will not be updated anymore. For the new HBL versions, please check the HBL main page. The information below is outdated but remains for archive reasons.

What is it?

This page is for HBL on the Golf exploit. This exploit works for PSPs on firmware up to 6.31 included, and requires an unpatched UMD or PSN version of one of the following games: Everybody’s Golf (EU), Hot Shots Golf Open Tee (Greatest hits version prefered) (US), Minna no golf Portable (JP), Everybody’s Golf 2 (EU), Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee 2 (US), Minna No Golf Portable 2 (JP), or Minna No Golf Portable 2 “The Best” edition (JP) .

If you have a firmware higher than 6.31, please go back to the HBL main page and select the version that matches your firmware.

This page is the official Download page for Half-Byte Loader. If you have questions please check the FAQ. For the latest news about Half Byte Loader, check the HBL Category on this blog.

Half-Byte Loader (HBL) is an open source Homebrew Loader for the Sony PSP. It allows to play fan-made games on any PSP up to firmware 6.31. HBL allows to run emulators for the Game Boy, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo 64, Sega Megadrive, NES, Super NES… and many other applications.

On this page you will find my own works related to the HBL: downloads for the latest version, patched games that improve compatibility, the savegames necessary to trigger the exploit, and other cool stuff.

This page will always be the first one to have a compiled version of my own patches to the SVN, as I will update the SVN and this page simultaneously. This guarantees that you can get the latest compiled version here at the SAME TIME as I upload it to the SVN. I will also announce new releases on my blog here

More Info

HBL is a work in progress and sometimes it might fail to load your favorite homebrew. However we believe it is harmless for your PSP and I personally test my work on several PSPs before releasing it. We are also confident that this program cannot “brick” your psp and it will not void your Sony Warranty.

HBL is open source, the compiled versions I provide are a compiled version of the sources available freely here

    Wololo,
I just tested SnesTYL and still doesnt work. It’s stuck on white load up screen.
    Please advise.

    Test done on:

    PSP GO 6.31 fw
    Hot Shots Golf 1

  2. wololo

@Muffinhead: we have a ticket to track this specific issue, so you can know if it ever gets fixed. The chances are slim, honestly, as HSG1 is a pain to work with.

  8. equis

    @jose
The greatest hits version is the only one with exploit (as I know). The “old” version is not compatible with the exploit.

    @wololo:
Just to make a comment on a previous problem, I downloaded HBL r107 and the savegame using IE, but was unable to do it using Firefox…

  9. Danny

Hi wololo, I am having a problem with my PSP Go(6.31). The HBL runs great, but it seems that I can’t run gpsp(GBA Emu) in HBL R107. I tried all kinds of solution and can’t get it work. GPSP crashed in the loading. Can anyone help me.

Also try the hello world just to make sure it works for you:

Everyone who want’s a SNES TYL Version that works on OFW 3.31 use snes9xTYL-0.3 it works the only thing that is missing is the cheat function or at least I did not see one, but that does not matter to me.

It works better then the uo Snes9x 0.02y33 Build 0034 in my opinion, because allot of games I play on the uo version crashes but on TYL .3 they work fine.
Here is a link for it.

the only suggestion that I think you should do before you play your rom is in the settings menu change the GFX engine from “PSP Accelerated” to “PSP accel.+accu.soft. to correct the graphic issues.

    thanks

  21. PspGo Ofw 6.31 Running with Hbl R101 hotshots golf open tee works perfect but 109 and 107 freeze up and restart my psp

  22. alastor

What’s the difference between the hotshots and hotshots (Greatest hits)?

  23. 6.35 is out dont update!!!

  24. equis

Sony is preparing a new OFW 6.35. So, we can hope TN release soon after that his exploit for systems with 6.31.

    —-
@alastor: Now, with the new HBL rev 109 there is no difference (to the final user, maybe some minor issues). You can have any version of the game, there is an exploit for each one. Only ensure you are downloading the aproppriate versión of the savegame and the corresponding HBL.

  25. Pii

How do I download that golf game from the store? When I go to the PSN store on my PSP it asked me to update first!

  26. lvmy

to pii: use media go, and download the game from the software. then transfer the game to your psp go

  27. lvmy

and same as PspGoFTBLBP, only rev 101 works on psp go

  28. God of

@Pii if you have not found a way yet i suggest using a PS3 or Media Go through the computer

  29. iy12l

can you make the patapon2 demo for 6.31 version plzzzzzzzzzzzz!!!!!!!!!!!

  30. KOREAN

Is there anyway to do this with my Korea version of this game?

  31. equis

@iy12l: there is no way to use patapon2 demo to run HBL. The demo was patched. Use a golf game.
Korean, you didn’t say wich game do you use.

  35. Breadhead

-The stuffs are in the root of my memorystick and savedata is here it should be but whenever i load the hot shots golf it just freezes and goes of. I,ve tried everything here and evev changing the hbl/libs_6xx to hbl/libs and all that but it still doesn’t work

  36. equis

What console and FW do you have?

  37. VaiKnight

I think I did everything correctly. I have a PSP 3001 running on OFW 6.31 and I have the Hot Shots Golf: Open Tee UMD. I formatted my memory stick, and reset my PSP’s settings to default. I downloaded the Half Byte Loader and the Save Data. I copied the “hbl” folder, “h.bin”, and the hacked “PSP” folder to the root of my memory stick. I don’t know where I could have gone wrong but when I try to run the HBL by putting the game in and running it, my PSP loads to a black screen point and shuts off. I would like to know why this is happening.

    • VaiKnight

Update* – I got it, I had done something wrong.

    • tij6794

hey the same thing happened to me ( I have a PSP 3001 with OFW 6.31) so what i did was use the HBL rev 107 and the hot shots golf open tee greatest hits save data by wololo. It works great. But they should really see what’s wrong with HBL rev109 for the non-greatest hits version.

  38. arshad

    hey…..cud u give this on demo………….pls

  39. APowerfulJedi

I was running into the same issues with my PSP 3001. I would put in the HSG Greatest Hits UMD and get the loading then black screen before it would shut it self off. I decided to buy the PSN version for $10 and it worked like a charm. Still have no idea why the UMD wouldn’t work when I didn’t do anything different with the downloadable HSG to get it working.

  40. xXOYAMAXx

is there any psx emulator compatible with HBL?

    thanks Oo
