Half Byte Loader for OFW 6.60

What is it?

This page is for the “XMB” version of HBL for 6.60, a version of Half-Byte Loader that runs on 6.60 firmware only, without the need for any “exploit” or “hack”.
This page is the official Download page for Half-Byte Loader
. If you have questions please check the FAQ. For the latest news about Half Byte Loader, check the HBL Category on this blog.
Half-Byte Loader (HBL) is an open source Homebrew Loader for the Sony PSP. It allows to play fan-made games on any PSP up to firmware 6.60 included. HBL allows to run emulators for the Game Boy, Game Boy Advance, Nintendo 64, Sega Megadrive, NES, Super NES… and many other applications.

On this page you will find my own works related to the HBL: downloads for the latest version, and other cool stuff.

Latest stable release. Fast and reliable, this is the version I currently recommend.

Additional downloads

If you’re looking for good homebrews that run on your PSP, don’t look any further, those are 15 games and utilities that will keep you entertained for hundreds of hours.

Previous Versions

Nothing here yet, but for history reasons you might want to have a look at previous versions of HBL that ran on other exploits: the Patapon2 Demo, the hot shots golf games, and the Minna no Sukkiri Demo.

How to use

Unzip the archive at the root of your psp and run from the XMB. Check the README file of the archive for more info 🙂

More Info

HBL is a work in progress and sometimes it might fail to load your favorite homebrew. However we believe it is harmless for your PSP and I personally test my work on several PSPs before releasing it. We are also confident that this program cannot “brick” your psp and it will not void your Sony Warranty.

HBL is open source, the compiled versions I provide are a compiled version of the sources available freely here

Can someone please tell me some good emulators that work with this version of hbl for 6.60 ofw? I have picodrive, vice for c64 and a nes emu running fine but the snes, mastersystem and gameboy emus that I had running before I stupidly updated my psp dont work now. Also if there is any ps1 emu available or does that require a homebrew? Thanks.

Same problem as the spanish dude. I have 6.60 ofw. so what can i do to play with ISO games too?

    • wololo

please ask your CFW specific questions on our forums at http://wololo.net/talk .
for isos, it’s usually as simple as creating an “ISO2 folder on your memory stick and putting them there. If you have specific questions about specific games, I can’t help you much and you’d rather use the help forums

  21. JOSH

any 1 know of a iso runner :/
    4 6.60?!

  22. toBsucht

as Mr. Wololo wrote (13.1.) use “hen/cfw” link at the top for example pro hen b10 or neuron hen support isoloading or you can try fake np v1

  27. Micheal kelleher

How do I actually get it?

  28. dood

To this day it seems that STILL there is NO actual ISO LOADER for OFW 6.60 YET, just for any of you asking, the two possible ways of running ISOs are (without installing a custom firmware of course):

    1. Using the 6.60 HEN that it is said to run ISOs by default (not including PSX) tried this on a psp 1000 (fat) and didn’t work, at least that was for me, you had to put your ISOs and CSOs in a folder called ISO in the root of the psp.

    2. Using the fake-np method, done that, and worked, when i used it it only accepted ISOs (you can convert CSOs to ISO, dont worry) but there was a size limit (which i think it was about 1.4GiB or something like that) and also uncompresses the ISO so it takes more space, but basically converts your ISO into an EBOOT (signed-homebrew-like) that you place in the /PSP/GAME folder, worked great but took up a lot of space and the size limit wouldn’t let me play heavier games, you can try to look it up if there’s a new version.

Hope this could help someone, thanks wololo
