I just remembered a card that would improve my deck's chances so significantly, too.. blargh.

Ah, well, we'll just see how it all ends up, heh.

Well, you still have 16.5 hours left - you wouldn't be the only one to make last minute changes. *looks at his inbox* ;)

Status update: 6 hours to go, deck count is at 38 (plus 3 of my own decks). We'll either play with 40 or with 45 decks (8 or 9 groups in the first stage respectively), I'll increase or reduce the number of my decks to get to 40 or 45, whichever number is nearer. Currently this would mean that I'd leave one of my decks out, so I'm not at all averse to two more decks being submitted, so I can use all of my decks. ;)

I'll open a new thread for tournament fixtures and results in about 2 hours. The current thread will be renamed to "Competition Talk" and will stay open. The idea is to have a platform where we can discuss the results (or cheer for our favorites ;) ) without letting the fixtures and results get lost amidst the talk. Since I've received so overwhelmingly many decks, I figured it would be best to have one thread dedicated to the fixtures/results, we'll have 40 decks in 8 groups in the first stage alone. :)

Current status: 38 decks, 2.5 hours to go. To any readers: If you haven't submitted a deck yet, you still have some time left. Don't miss your chance to become a part of Wagic's first ever deck competition. :)

The competition has no officially begun. :)

I'm generating the fixture right now. In the meantime, you can already check the Competition Results Thread for some statistics about the submitted decks. Some trivia:

- More Swamps were used than any other basic land type, apparently black decks are in the majority for this competition. :)

- Islands were used substantially less than any other basic land type. Even mountains (the second-least used basic land type) were used about 2.5 times more often. Blue decks appear to be a rarity in this competition, although they are there.

- The most popular non-land card is Sword to Plowshares (38x)

- The most popular creature is Relentless Rats (36x), though all of these stem from a single deck. The second most popular creature is Boggart Ram-Gang (17x).

- The most popular artifact is Howling Mine (17x).

Which cards in the list caught your eye? :)

how can there be a deck w/36 rats?
Vintage rules read:

With the exception of basic land cards, a player’s combined deck and sideboard may not contain more than four of any individual card

maybe I just misunderstood something??

Relentless Rats has a rule printed on the card which allows any number of Relentless Rats cards in the deck, and rules on the cards trump rules stated elsewhere. :)

okay, I guess I was just confused because of the DCI ruling:

This card's text does not override other format-imposed restrictions on the number of cards. For example, in a Highlander format, you would still only be allowed one Relentless Rat.

Sorry about my confusion.

No problem. It *is* a very unusual card. I think the word "other" in the DCI rule you quoted is the key. Relentless Rats doesn't need to follow the usual "4 identical cards max" rule, but has to follow *other* limitations if the format imposes them.
