CGI/video file loading

Postby Saint » Sun Jul 04, 2010 5:15 pm

Well since the story mode is picking up a bit and alot of people are working on custom sets and custom campaigns it might be nice to add the ability to load a small video or what not, the only thing that would need to be changed is a parser/command that points to a video and then plays, you will need to use WMA files mostlikely but there might be a way to code in some visual libraries (libva's or whatever) to create a workaround making more compact video's run.

There are alot of creative people as it comes to CGI's and just movie creating in general, and like I sayed the Story Mode is up and comming, and more and more "mods" and just plain stories will be created.

It would be awesome to be able to add your own video's on victory or as a part of the storyline, i know it will take up more space on your PSP just to add libraries and sorts but it could push the game and the story mode to a whole different level.

Just a suggestion ofcourse,

just a technical point: wma video files won't run on a psp natively.

Other than that the idea is great, but it requires some work, as usual

It doesen't? what's with the Activate WMA and Activate Flash player in the recovery menu... but anyways WMA will mostlikely leave you with bigger files then the normal MP4 conversion for PSP's anyway so :P but the WMA thing was just an example anyway :)

Well i'm glad you like the idea, while it might be some work it would be a great addition in stories and campaigns plus people that know nothing about coding/softcoding etc. that would like to help but are good at creating CGI's and stuff could contribute to the game aswell (and help the players coding there stories wether it's a custom set made or just a Magic storyline (ripped from a book or comic or just created out of there imagination).
The general idea is to create a commandline that triggers the CGI on winning a battle or wen you enter a village or reach a goal, whatever (kind of like they do in alot of games (Final fantasy for example)).

So uhmm something like wen your writing a story you include the basic CGI text file (or whatever it will be) wich loads the Libs and stuff to play file ***, then you write something like include CGI.txt (Video1.mp4), making the video file name a variable that the CGI.txt picks ups, plays and ends the play process and lets the story continue at the screen/part of the campaign you are at again :)

Well its just a rough idea ofcourse and as you know my C++ is almost none existing lol but it seems doable :) and would be an awesome extra ^_^.

Well that wasen't exactly what I was aiming at but it does fall under sort of CGI :P, i think it would be cool to be able to edit those yourself aswell so you could use this for say an Anime Campaign or something and you could use a little firebreathing dragon with a Magic Campaign (or whatever, just an example).
But idk if you could let the PSP load a .gif file because you could easially squeeze that into a .gif file making it less space consuming then a mp4 file (and if it doesen't load gifs let it load a range of Jpegs you have in a zip file wich just runs a loop until it finishes loading).

Again just a suggestion/idea :)
