I understand maybe limiting the amount to 4 cards per deck (even though i would advise against it) but limiting the purchases to 4 seems arbitrary and unnecessary. Personally i like to build several decks at a time and would find purchasing only 4 of one type of card to be too limiting. If anything it probably shouldn't be a hard-coded limit, as casual play usually lets you do what ever you want. Maybe in the settings there could be a options for "tournament rules" limiting both the amount of cards and maybe even banning the use of certain cards based on official ban lists. At least that way things could stay the way they are for casual players, and accommodate tournament style play at the same time.

Note that even if you put a card from your collection in "deck1", it is still available for you to put in "Deck2" and so on.
So if you have 4 "Black vise", you can use all 4 of them in all your decks if you want.

The rules of "maximum 4 cards" in a deck is very limiting and I don't really see why I would put this limit in Wagic. Sure, the rules of Magic say that you shouldn't have more than 4 cards of each, but if people want to have fun with 20 wrath of god I don't know why I would prevent that. It's also the player's responsibility to build a deck that respects the rule.
I can probably add, as it was suggested some time ago, a number indicating how many of this card you already own when you buy it in the shop, so that you don't make the mistake of buying more than you really need. But as far as hard "limits" are concerned, I'm against it. It requires some work (especially since some cards bypass this rule, such as basic lands or relentless rats), and I don't really think it would bring anything to the game experience.

That would be perfect. I figured people would not be into the hard limits,I just know having more then 4 copies of a card is redundant and wastes my credits :D

I think the benefit to limiting the cards to 4 per deck would be useful when networking is added to wagic so people dont "cheat". Would there not be a way to just say all cards are limited to 4 per deck and then just hard code the exceptions that allow more than 4 (which is just a couple) or limited to 1 (which there are a number).

Also with networking there would also be a nice way to distinguish to people that a deck is type 1 or type 2. This is all wishlist stuff and can be for down the road but a nice feature to have if networking comes along well, but not until then.

Work time should be prioritized to what would be the most beneficial to the game and not everything right away or at all, but I know you know that :)

I personally think the game is at a point where new features to the game, (shop stuff, deck builders, mulligans, etc) are not as important as making more cards work. The game is perfectly playable right now.
It ts not THAT big of a deal to restart a game if you have no land, or reenter shop a lot to hunt for cards, who cares how many 'insert card name here' you have. I would much rather be able to recreate even 1 of my actual decks 100% working in Wagic.

I am sure that it is a lot of work making just one of these thigns work but here is a list of cards/abilities I would love to see working...

Counterspell (obviously)
Isochron Scepter - love this card but not as much without counterspell working
Recurring Nightmare
Recycle
Aluren
Survival of the FIttest
Anything that prevents damage (actually prevents it, not heals it)
Cards that have morph, threshold, cycling.
Creatures that give other creatures abilities that require mana (e.g. give all slivers {2}:regenerate)
Cost-reducing skills (e.g. soldier spells you play cost {1} less to play)
Counters (e.g. poison counters, etc)

The list can go on but this is what I can think of off hand. If any 1 of these could be implemented it would greatly please me.
I must end my wish list with thanks, I love what this game has become and I can not wait for future releases.

@JustaNub: I believe I fixed Counterspell in the current SVN version, but I'll need to test that.

Regarding your other requests, for specific cards I think I'll try a new approach of "if you want it, donate or code it" which might bring me the devs I desperately need for the future of the project.
(it would work like this: people who want a specific card donate/ or code it themselves. I can then reuse the donation money to do a "patch contest", where I would give a part of the donation money to the best C++ code submitted for the game - voted by users of the game, or something - . This would bring new cards, new coders, improvements to the code... Do you guys think this would work ?)

It does not mean I'll stop adding new mechanics to support more cards, but I'll definitely don't add specific cards unless I myself desperately want to add them ;)
(and this is not related to cards that should work but don't, which is a bug, and not a "new card" )

so what about an extended "foreach"-keyword working with instants, sorceries and activated abilities?? You did it so well with "lord"! ;)

What about interactions between "foreach" with "draw:x" and "token:x"? All components are already existing in Wagic!

The parser is unfortunately reaching a critical mass where it becomes difficult to mix up several parts as easily as I wished.
It would need to be rewritten into a "real" parser with tools such as Yacc and lex. I'm especially lazy to do that since I've never used these tools and it would probably require to redefine some rules for the syntax (i.e. update all the existing _cards.dat).

Just need the motivation. :ugeek:

Today I added "stack" as a zone name for the parser, and "fizzle" in auto for counterspells.
things such as:
Code: Select all
text=counter target red creature spell
target=creature[red]|stack
auto=fizzle

Should work, especially since I believe I now fixed the main counterspell issues (at least I hope). Only works for instants/sorceries right now, needs little more work for enchantments and stuff...
