CFW For Dummies – 6.35 (or below) 3000, Go, Ta8v3

Important note: This page is obsolete, and kept for archive purposes only. I now recommend a much easier technique to install a CFW on your PSP. If you reached this page from an other website, I recommend you go back to the page presenting the easy technique to install Pro CFW. This page is kept for archive purposes only.

You reached this page because you want to install a Custom Firmware on your PSP3000, PSPGo, or a PSP2000 with a UNhackable motherboard (ta88v3), and you currently have a firmware 6.35 or below installed on your PSP. If you’re not sure of that anymore (psp 2000 owners, there is a chance your motherboard could be hackable), or if you want to check again, or if you have a different PSP model, please go back to the main page of this guide.

You basically have two choices. you can either upgrade to Firmware 6.35 and run the 6.35 CFW By Virtuous Flame, or downgrade to firmware 6.20 and use Total_Noob’s Hen for 6.20. The choice is up to you, these systems both have pros and cons, so pick the one you prefer.

You’re still here? It means you made your choice, and you want to stay on 6.35, and install Virtuous flame’s LCFW. First, if your firmware is below firmware 6.35, follow this essential step:

  • If your psp has a firmware under firmware 6.35, Upgrade your PSP to the official firmware 6.35.
    • For PSP 2000 or 3000 owners, You can do this by downloading the firmware here (or alternate link here), placing it in your PSP/UPDATE folder, and running it from your PSP menu.
    • For PSP Go owners, You can do this by downloading the firmware here (or alternate link here), placing it in your PSP/UPDATE folder, and running it from your PSP menu.

Done? Good. Now, to install and run Virtuous Flame’s CFW 6.35, just do the following:

  1. Download Virtuous Flame’s CFW 6.35 Pro here (or alternate link here)
  2. unzip the archive (download above) in the PSP/GAME folder of your memory stick
  3. Go to the “Game" section in your PSP menu, and Run the 6.35 CFW Update
  4. That’s it! You’re now running the CFW
  5. This CFW allows you to run most homebrews, as well as recent games. Most likely, you won’t need any additional tools.

Note that every time you turn your psp off (I mean, really off, sleep mode is NOT the same thing), you will need to run the Launcher (it is called “Fast Recovery in 6.35 Pro, and is included in the archive above)

Currently i am running OFW 6.31 to run my ISO’s.
It works fine but as i have some PSOne games i would like to downgrade to Total Noob’s TN Hen for 6.20 (or might go with the 6.35 option instead).
In order to downgrade to 6.20 from 6.31 do i have to first upgrade to 6.35 and then downgrade or can it be done directly from 6.31?
P.S. I dont want to have any risk of bricking whatsoever.

    Thanks,
    Anti

    • Hektik

You can upgrade to 6.35 then use davees downgrader to get to the required firmware, i have recently downgraded 3 psp 3000 to 5.03 and am now using gen c full with prome 3 add on. If you need any help message me back and i will try to assist.
      Hope this was helpful

      • Antizigota

I just upgraded to 6.35 and ran 6.35PROB.
It works like a charm and loads all my ISOs.
Even have the fast recovery on.
I’ll stick with it for now and not downgrade to 6.20.
        Thanks Hektik!

        • Tyreethetruth4

You dont have to upgrade to 6.35 to downgrade. I successfully downgraded from 6.31 to 6.20 using the same downgrader.

I extracted the zip file unto my memory card and it’s listed as corrupted data, any suggestions?

    • Newbee

When he said extract to your memory root, he didn’t actually mean your direct hard drive, you actually have to go to PSP/GAME (for PSP, dunno about PspGo) and extract it there, then go to Game (last icon down) and you’ll find it. Can anyone help about teaching me how to load ISO’s, PS1?

      • Craig

What the instructions should say is to extract them to the PSP/Game folder on the memory stick as the zip files don’t contain the correct file structure. But thanks for not reading my post, since I clearly stated “I extracted the zip file unto my memory card”.

.iso and .cso go into the ISO folder on the memory stick pro duo

  5. Hellsingkira

Wololo i think that you should update Virtuous Flame’s CFW 6.35 Pro A4 to the new 6.35 Pro B and excellent tutorial.

  6. buddhafrog

Wololo – thanks for all your work. I’m the newbiest of the newbies – spent all day trying to figure out what I need to buy for my son to be able to play downloaded games. Still unsure but this has really helped to fucus the info.

Q: this will allow most homebrews and new games, but will this allow iso games?

  7. I have done the install and stuff but when I put iso’s onto my psp wherer do they go? my psp is reconizing them

  8. my psp isnt reconizing them*

    • Mario

have you made an ISO folder in the root of your psp which is where you put the iso games oh and you also need promoetheus iso loaders which goes in the GAME folder of your psp

  9. no I didnt thank you where do I put the iso folder? and I put prometheus in the game sub folder?

    • Craig

On the root of your memory stick is where the iso folder should be, that is where you put .iso and .cso files. You then have to launch the CFW before those titles will be playable.

  10. Mario

having problems? install PRO-B just search up in youtube how to install PRO-B and many tutorials will appear there, some even with the links in their description.

  11. Mario

by the way no prometheus needed for PRO-B

  12. nichole

  14. Seraldo

Really appreciate this write-up! I bought a Go on Ebay and had it running CFW within like 10 minutes of getting it out of the box

  15. Junaz

I have a 2000 with 5.00 M33-6 installed and the girlfriend had a 3000 (that I had no idea was even partially hackable) and the other day I bought a new 2000 with a ta88v3 and thought, “ah MAN!” This was a shining light in the darkness. Many thanks for this to everyone in the scene. This makes me smile as if I were on candid camera 😀

  16. Clint

Just installed PRO-B on my PSP 3000. Easy to install and worked like a charm. I followed this tutorial up to the point where I pick the “hen” to install and googled PRO-B and dl it elsewhere. Please update this awesome tutorial to reflect the newest updates!!

hi guys, i need help. i have a pspGo its running ofw 6.35. my friend helped me and i think he installed a cfw 6.35 Pro (pro only and not pro-a or pro-b). to load or “launch” the cfw 6.35 pro i run in my psp something like “635 hen by coldbird” or something like that… then i run prometheus iso loader to run my .iso or .cso games. its working fine.

my question is… is the cfw 6.35 pro-b3 better than whaat i am using? if i install it do i manually remove the “635 hen by coldbird” and the “prometheus iso loader” or will it remove itself upon installing the cfw pro-b3? or maybe i remove them first before installing the cfw 6.35 pro-b3?

if i need to removw them… how do i uninstall or remove the “635 hen by coldbird” and “prometheus iso loader”?

    please help me guys….

    thanks

hey wololo Im just wanting to talk about what games you like to play

  21. Dark-play

Hello I’m using firmware 6.35 B3 pro, already got run PS1 games, but the game Mortal Kombat Trilogy, is not running, the version “SLUS00330” when I start to play it picks up everything well, but when I play in a player, when you start loading to start the round, he’s loading up my psp off and when he runs out the beginning and ProB3 ProUpdate have to do again, he takes the PRO B3! ‘ve tried other versions of the same game and still giving the same error!

  22. Dark-play

any solution for this game Mortal Kombat Trilogy, please, if anyone can post any version that is not making this mistake, be grateful!

  23. Mario

@pat yes pro-b3 is better than just the hen pro if you want to get it go this page which is coldbird’s blog, go here: http://blog.coldbird.co.cc/
then just download pro-b3 or pro-b4 that should be out by tomorrow which would be 4-9-11, or on 4-10-11, and no you don’t have to uninstall the hen that you have right now just run pro-b3 or pro-b4 and it will update to pro-b3 or pro-b4 (if is release in those dates that i told you) by the way if you don’t know where to put them put both files in the GAME folder of you PSP.

  24. Kamen

Is there a step by step guide to install the software or a video that will enable to install the required software and let me run the ISO files.

I am so confused by reading so many articles. i am not a very technical person

    The PSP is 3004
The current installed version is 6.30

    Please help

  26. DK

    Hi,

I was able to resolve and i am able to run all my ISO’s That i had with me
Couple of things i learned on my way its a 2 step process

1st thing every thing to be loaded on memory stick

Download 6.35 PSP 3004 Copy that update file EBOOT.PBP to PSP/GAME/UPDATE folder on your PSP memory stick
Go to Game – Memory Stick on your PSP and run the update and follow the onscreen instructions

    Download 6.35 PRO-B2 and 6.35 PRO-B2 Fast Recovery
Copy 635PROUPDATE, 635FastRecovery to PSP/GAME on your PSP
Run 6.35PRO-B Updater from your PSP under Game – Memory stick
    Press X to install it
Once it’s done, it’ll prompt you to press X to finish installation, press X

Create ISO Folder in the root of memory stick and put all ISO file in that.

go in XMB and run from memory stick Icon.

    Voila it will start…

Thanks to all Dev ‘s who have made this possible. Hats off.
Ps. i had to study alot but i know a lot today

  27. MAN, thanks a lot for 6.35 CFW! I’ve just updated from TN-HEN, and I’ve liked a lot the fact that ISOs now run directly from the XMB (I couldn’t make OpenIdea work).

Thank you very much you all! You guys are the best. 😀

I have a PSP2003-ta88v3 at 6.35 OFW trying to install 6.35PRO but although it installs when i try to launch it, it just hangs and shuts down each time.

Any ideas on what the problem maybe?

  29. Andreas Andersson

It says to extract the update in “PSP/UPDATE”, but it is in the “PSP/GAME/UPDATE”. I didn’t check the file inside the zip at first, so I made a new folder in the PSP/ called “UPDATE”, which didn’t work ^_^

  30. kart

do i need to install “pop loader” to play psx games on my psp?

  33. Xar

Well, I have sort of a problem with 6.35 Flame’s CFW. I tried it out a few days ago, and it worked amazingly. But today, it just started to slow way down. I rebooted my psp (3000) and it was fine, until I loaded the cfw. Then it slowed again. I’m thinking a new mem card. I wanted a bigger one anyway, but is this a common problem? Anyhow, thanks so much!

  34. Anjello
