News: DigiTimes report states that Nintendo will launch a new Nintendo Switch model in mid-2020 & Pokémon Double XY mod released for the 3DS!
With last week being particularly generous to Sony’s consoles like the PS4 & PSVita when it comes to scene news, today it’s Nintendo’s time to shine with some interesting news relating to both the Switch & 3DS.
Switch Rumour: DigiTimes claims that Nintendo will introduce new Switch model in mid-2020 with production to be underway soon
With the Switch having originally launched in early March 2017, it will celebrate its 3rd birthday in less than 2 months which translates to the console reaching the middle of its lifetime if measurements from previous generations are considered.
As a result of this, it’s been rumoured for quite a while that Nintendo may be planning some sort of hardware refresh for the Switch, perhaps similar to what Sony/Microsoft did with the PlayStation 4/XBOX One when they reached their 3-4 year mark through the release of the PlayStation 4 Pro and XBOX One X respectively which boosted performance and media/graphics capabilities while retaining full backward compatibility.
Now, these rumours have been supported by a report from DigiTimes, a Taiwanese industry newspaper, which states that Nintendo will start ‘volume production‘ of the new Switch model sometime towards the end of Q1 2020 (Jan-March) with an official release sometime in mid-2020. However, it must be noted that industry newspapers don’t always provide fully accurate information so DigiTimes’ report should be treated with caution although they have been accurate some times in the past such as when they correctly predicted that Apple would increase the screen size of their entry level $329 iPads to 10.2″ last year.
The release of a new Switch model may decrease the cost of models currently on the market which are reportedly fully compatible with Team Xecuter’s new hacking solution so this is news that one should certainly keep an eye on!
3DS Release: Pokémon Double XY Mod Alpha 1 released!
Switching over to Nintendo’s other portable, the Nintendo 3DS has just seen some love when it comes to gme modding with the release of Pokémon Double XY by Saiklex, a scene member who’s also behind Pokémon Emerald Double Edition.
This mod, which is currently in Alpha stage and is compatible with Pokémon X & Y, comes with the following features:
- Turns all trainer battles to double battles in which you combat 2v2 Pokémon together in order to spice up the game
- As of right now, only the battles up to Grant, the second gym leader, have been converted to double battles
- Extra Pokémon are added to encounter tables although there are no more than 8 per zone and they mostly replace Pokémon that have already been seen elsewhere
- The ability to encounter every single Pokémon in one place or another and make the Pokémart’s stock more useful – These features are to be implemented in upcoming versions of the mod
It’s important to state that the game will crash if you initiate a trainer battle with only one Pokémon on you so make sure you catch at least one Pokémon before battling against the first trainer! As this is the first alpha, there are also some known issues that you should check out in the link below.
To grab Pokémon Double XY, follow this link and download the mod for the Pokémon title of your choice (X or Y) and follow the instructions provided in the ‘Download section’. You may donate a few bucks to Saiklex on Ko-fi to show appreciation towards his efforts.
In other news, a Cydia Impactor alternative called AltDeploy by pixelomer has been released for macOS which finally allows for the installation of IPAs on iOS devices with a Free Account in an easy way. This was released due to Apple deciding to break Cydia Impactor’s functionality a while back with a message complaining that XCode 7.3 or later was required to sign applications.
