Switch News: Android on Switch making great progress with deep sleep support and auto-rotation now working, Dark Souls Ascension Mod ported to Switch and a mod to get full quality audio in the Witcher 3 is out!
Recently, the Switch scene has been a little bit quiet but now, it’s back to normal with three notable pieces of news. In this article, we’ll be looking at further developments relating to Switch’s Android port, Dark Souls Ascension Mod coming to the console and a mod to get full-quality audio on Witcher 3 without any performance loss!
Switchroot Team manages to get deep sleep and auto-rotation working on Android!
With Android, one can turn their Nintendo Switch into a general purpose tablet thus breaking away from the limitations imposed by Horizon OS. As a result, there’s a good deal of interest in the Android port for the console and the folks at Switchroot are still working on making the experience better.
From some recently posted tweets, the Switchroot Team have made significant forays into the deep sleep and auto-rotation areas which were previously a tad problematic. As per the available information, auto-rotation is working well and deep-sleep (lp0) lets you wake up from sleep but some bugs need to be fixed before it can be labelled as fully functional. Other than this excellent news, Switchroot is also working on the next release of Android for the Switch which they said will most likely be based on Android Q rather than Android Pie thanks to the former’s better joycon support.

Switch Game Mods: Dark Souls Ascension Mod ported & a method to get full-quality in Witcher 3 without any performance loss
While Dark Souls has been around since 2011, it still has a decent following and the Switch got a remastered port of it in 2018. As with many popular titles, individuals online created various mods for Dark Souls Remastered (the version of Dark Souls available on the Switch) and a popular one of these is the Ascension Mod by vanbuinen which introduces new enemy types, locations and more. Now, this mod which was previously only available for the PC has been ported to hacked Switch consoles thanks to GBATemp user maxx488.
According to the port’s GBATemp thread, installation is pretty straightforward and only involves placing files in /(sxos//atmosphere)/titles/01004AB00A260000/romfs. However, it’s important to note that the mod file is around 3.2GB large so don’t attempt to download it over cellular data (unless you have an ulimited supply)!
To grab the mod, follow this link. You’ll need to create an account in order to download it.
Switching focus to the just-ported Witcher 3, Cirosan on Twitter has come up with a way to get PC audio on the Switch port without any performance degradation. His method involves:
- Having a copy of Witcher 3 on your PC (he uses the GOG version of The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt GOTY but non-GOTY editions work as well)
- Downloading a BAT script and running it in the installation directory of the game
- After the BAT script is done, a 4GB file will be generated inside a newly-created folder called ‘atmosphere’
- Copy this folder to your Switch and merge it with the existing folder if needed (if you’re running ReiNX/SX OS, change the folder’s name accordingly)
As of right now, the mod only works with English audio but Cirosan will add German and French support provided there’s enough demand along with Japanese/Russian support although this will take a longer time.
To get PC-quality audio in Witcher 3 on your Switch, follow this Twitter thread explaining the installation method while providing the download links for the BAT files.
Conclusion
If you read enough about the Switch for today, you might be interested in the release of melonDSi and the announcement of the Analogue Pocket, which is a $199 handheld letting you play physical cartridges of many old portables including the GameBoy, NGP and Atari Lynx, if you’re into the emulation scene. On the other hand, you might be interested in spoofing your PSVita’s FW to 3.73 if you want to get on PSN using a hacked Vita running FW 3.72 or earlier as Sony just released a new firmware update for the console.

Wow… Now that’s what we call an active scene. Btw, they already have 60 fps mod – for the Witcher 3 – out as well. Imagine that!!
Its funny how the skip spanish for Witcher i mean, after English, Spanish is the second international language
“Spanish is the second international language”
You mean French/Chinese. Spanish is only second in Latin America.
French/Chinese? Uh, no. Chinese is literally just China, for the most part. And French isn’t that widespread either.
In fact, in terms of actual language spread and not just number of people, Spanish is probably first, followed by English.
Irrelevant nitpicking aside (me included) I really enjoy all this ferverously active work on the Switch scene. As for the Vita, I hope Sony doesn’t try anything funny. You already publicly gave up on the console; you better not do anything to screw over those who are just trying to get some use out of it.
