Note: While this article is factually correct, it does have a somewhat comedic undertone to it since Apple’s reaction to this issue quite silly in my opinion.

Apple’s no stranger to shipping out devices that tend to bend, such as iPhone 6, but now, it’s set a new record and shipping devices that are bent out of the box!

A little back story on the iPad Pro 2018

A little over a month ago, Apple released their new iPad Pro models that killed the home button, thinned the bezels and gave the device a more industrialist design along with the mandatory processor update. While this is all good news, Apple also decided to hike the price of the entry level iPad Pro to $799 (which translates to a ridiculous €900+ for those of us in Europe) for the entry-level 64GB model while still selling the 2017 10.5-inch iPad Pro for the same price it sold for initially ($649 for the base model).

Other than disappointing customers for hiking the price again, Apple didn’t pay much attention on the software side of things either. This is because even though the iPad Pro 2018 has a USB-C port, you still can’t connect a pen drive to it as iOS 12 doesn’t natively support external USB storage which really reduces the potential of this device.

What happened now?

After the device’s launch in November, some customers that set down a big chunk of cash and bought one noticed that the device was bent out of the box. Obviously, these disgruntled customers took to the internet and websites like MacRumors started getting numerous reports of bent iPad Pros. On a similar note, YouTube channel Jerry Rig Everything also revealed something quite shocking about the iPad Pro’s build quality as he badly damaged it with just his bare hands.

Fast forwarding a few weeks, Apple decided to respond to this issue by contacting The Verge. Apple’s reaction was that the “very slight bend in the aluminum chassis” (which according to pictures isn’t so small) was caused as a side effect of the manufacturing process, specifically in relation to the cooling system, and that it was not expected to worsen over time. As a result, Apple has decided that the bend isn’t a defect even though, according to many, it most certainly is.

In my opinion, Apple’s reaction is quite bogus because I don’t think that anybody would consider an unintended bend in their devices as not being a defect.

However, the internet may be looking at this wrong as the bend may just be a feature so that we get a nostalgic throwback to the design of the iPad 1-4.

Conclusion

It seems that in the near future, Apple may have to change their ways as their stock price fell quite a bit in last few weeks and their iPhone Xr/Xs lineup doesn’t look like it’s selling too well either according to rumours.
