Spelunky Classic HD ported to the PSVita: Explore caves and hunt treasure on your PSVita with this homebrew GameMaker game!
SilicaAndPina’s G*Maker is already bearing fruit as even a few days after its release, some community members are porting GameMaker: Studio games to the PSVita! This time, Spelunky Classic HD has been ported which allows you to explore caves and look for treasure with enhanced graphics over the original Spelunky Classic game
What is Spelunky Classic HD?
Spelunky Classic HD is an enhanced version of the original Spelunky game (which was renamed to Spelunky Classic).
Spelunky Classic is a cave exploration game in which you hunt treasure, kill enemies and dodge traps among others things. This game, by Derek Yu, was originally released in 2009 as freeware but later on in 2012, an HD reboot (that’s available for the Vita via PSN) of it was released for which you have to pay $15.
Spelunky Classic HD, by yancharkin, took the original Spelunky game (which was converted to GM:S by Darius Kazemi and YoYo games) and improved upon it by adding:
- Support for different aspect ratios like 16:9 (which is found on many of today’s screens)
- Support for touch input
- Translation support (there’s a Spanish one available)
What about the PSVita port?
The PSVita got its port by Reddit user ‘tijesef‘ and G*Maker was used to make it possible. Spelunky Classic HD works pretty well on the Vita and has the following features:
- Excellent performance with no performance drops at all
- 16:9 video so you don’t have to bother with letter boxed gameplay
- Audio support
- Ability to use the d-pad or analogue stick to control the game
- This game makes no use of the touch screen so it’s PSTV-friendly!
According to ‘tijesef’, this game port is intended to show the potential of SilicaAndPina’s G*Maker to the PSVita. Without a doubt, this shows how well GM:Studio games work on the PSVita and will hopefully lead to many ports of open-source GameMaker games!
Conclusion
To grab Spelunky Classic HD for the PSVita, simply follow the link below and download the VPK. The VPK is 76MB large so it’ll take a while to install. As of writing this article, it isn’t available on VitaDB (VHBB’s source) so you have to get it manually.
For some reason, it asks for unsafe permissions but I can personally confirm that the VPK I installed is safe.(MD5:23668d84214502a3915897233c4f0c30).

Nice. One of the few games I keep coming back to.
Who knows, hopefully someone will add the missing parts like new game plus and the randomiser runs, and a 16:9 ratio for am2r (hopefully the ice beam bug too) wanted to play this since forever.
For AM2R the fix has been launched few days ago
@terror Does it have the missing parts, also could you please provide a link?? Thanks in advance…
Does anyone know if this will drop on the homebrew browser soon? It’s way more convenient that way
My dog says “arf”.
Hello from author of this port :3
It requires extended permissions because every app has it’s own authid, it’s like permissions in iOS. I was too lazy to send the vpk to CelesteBlue (he can make every vpk safe) so I just used original authid from Siralim 2.
Can you port Nidhogg 2? (if is that possible of course)
