For me personally I’m not that desperate to play every 4.95 game or less, the handful of games i do want to play I will buy. I do have a 3.5 ps4 packed away tho just in case I need one.

  4. A7mag3ddon says:

4.05 of course us what I meant.

  5. nebu_187 says:

I updated back when qwerty exploited 4.50 and was dumb enough to think it was being released. My own fault i should have waited now i cry.
No i actually dont give a s*** because i have 2 cfw ps3 now 😀 so the ps4 can wait.

    • joe guy says:

Sorry bro 🙁 that guy is mostly a troll

      • Fallenleader says:

I keep telling people that and they just shoot back with “welp he released stuff before” instead of actually looking at his track record of flaunting stuff to the public for the bragging rights only.
His attitude is essentially “If I can do it, F you, go do it yourself”. In fact, most of the scene has the same attitude, forgetting the headaches it took them to learn it in the first place.
If enough people get burned from his ***, they will eventually learn to ignore his attention whoring.

    • William says:

try begging moar harderrrr lol ..i think thats the key for that qwerty guy…he want you to begg

its similar to justin bieber ,its just in different platform that qwerty use tweeter

i think he have no friends in real life, thats why bieber and him need that attention from social media

      • Fallenleader says:

Sorry, begging him does nothing more than make him smile and hit the block button (or simply just ignore).
The track record is there from iOS alone. He is simply wanting the attention and bragging rights. never really gave a *** about helping others.
Just because he has the right to not release it doesn’t give him the right to mislead others. the dude is a friggen troll. no questions asked.

      • |33+M@5+3R says:

He likes to be stroked harrrrrrrd

        • seanp2500 says:

I HATE ALL OF YOU PEOPLE IN THIS CHAIN! If it weren’t him WE WOULD NOT HAVE A WORKING PS4 jailbreak. WHO DO YOU THINK WROTE THE WEBKIT!!! He is whole reason the attack works!!!

          • nebu_187 says:

dude calm the f*** down. Just saying if he was not going to release then just kept to himself instead of bragging like a little child

    • seanp2500 says:

that’s my point he has released you just assumed you were psychic and then blame him! Newsflash you can’t predict the future! Reason he no release is Sony has not patched. It’s pretty simple cat and mouse tactics if you ask me….

  6. joe guy says:

Great article, would love to see more write ups about this. Also, if anyone knows where these PS4 games have been circulating, put it here. I know about radikal-gamez but not much else.

  7. Dusan says:

I’m a game developer and I hate when People publish( piracy) my games for free.
But there is a catch. If the game is not pirated for a few months then its not affecting my income that much. And after a year or so, its actually a good commercial 🙂
I guess Aaa titles are affected the most. Anyway piracy on ps4 in this form( older firmware) its maybe a good thing for Sony, developers and People that cant really afford larger library of games…
    Just my thoughts

  8. Paolo says:

Another interesting fact is that flatz has published a method to run (arguably) every ps2 game on ps4

    • Domi says:

Who cares about that *** lol? I bought a ps4 to play ps2 games. If I wanna play ps2 games I break out my actual ps2 and play it on a pvm CRT monitor through component/rgb scart, it looks way better than it’ll ever look emulated on a ps3 or ps4

    • ps4thief4ever says:

Can i run legit copys? like just put my old game in and run some kind of software?

Or do you have to get the “pirated” versions?

      • cboushell says:

Where do you think the pirated games originate from? They come from legit sources and are converted to PKG files you can install. So why would you not be able to dump your own game and install it? Think a little bit.

        • Alex says:

I was thinking he meant would he be able to just insert a ps2 disc and it accept it and run without having to store it on the hard drive, although me personally, I think I would like it stored digitally either way regardless, as for whether or not the ps4 will accept and read ps2 games, I doubt it, I’d say its necessary to get it dumped

        • FFTW says:

the Cobra PS3s Didnt accept PS2 Discs, only dumps. there is no reason to think that the ps4 will accept them either.

          • Jack Hill says:

FFTW your off on what you said. I think it’s model specific I’ve personally jailbroke 10+ systems all BC’s mostly 60 gig’s and have 2 of them for myself and they all run off discs or eve backup copies and yes can be copied to the hdd of the ps3 also. had the cobra dongle since it came out and all my cfw’s have been cobra ones Habib and rebug all played using the disc

  9. Vkey says:

Then..We must have latest version 5.XX Jailbreak to play current AAA titles, as before 2017 there were not a much big titles to get hands on !! So as per my opinion piracy at this stage not good.

  12. Me O’Me says:

is there a list of which PS4s ship with a fw 4.05 or under? is PS4Pro included? anything manufactured before 2017? just wondering as i am looking to buy a new PS4 with a fw 4.05 or under and would like a Pro if possible.

    • Marek says:

Gosh, good luck bro, I have spent days to find a new one (FAT) below 4.05
To get Slim and especially PRO is to find a needle in a heystack 🙂

    • djp says:

i found one at the pawn shop within 5 minutes of looking through the shelves… they had one marked with a date of 1/17, had them turn it on for me and low and behold 3.55 firmware 🙂

    • KappazzCoffee says:

I think there’s an article on wololo written right after the 4.05 announcement, just use the search function. Im not sure the initiall wave of pros might have shipped with 4.03 or a bit lower but nowadays I would not bet my luck on a pro out of the box (if that ever was a thing on the fist place). If you wanna be save stick to a slim

  13. reymon says:

i bought mine feww days ago on a local store 3 blocks away from work. ther was still 2 more pro´s (launch day i guess whit 3.70fw) and there was even 2 o 3 more slim bundles on 3.51 (i know cause the boy at the store turned on the consoles for me)
on the “con” side here in arg is more expensive than other countrys
    sorry bad english
good luck to all those looking for a hackable console

SO MANY GAMES TO PLAY AND DOWNLOAD! WOOOHOOO! SO GLAD I WAS PATIENT!

    • dontbotherwaiting says:

enjoy playing them offline, shut off from any online experience and updates. FUN.

      • Hello says:

If you dont pay ps plus you dont need to care about online. The only worry of pirates last gen were the ban waves. Now, anybody cares

      • Axido says:

I couldn’t care less about online, especially in Bloodborne and Watch_Dogs.
And I don’t play those *** PS4 peasant games that are Fifa and CoD, lol.

      • FFTW says:

you will be able to get updates, either like you could with the PS3 or like you could with the 360. same with DLC.

the only real issue for now is that newer games arent supported.

      • williater says:

I think someone here has their PS4 on latest firmware. Tut, Tut, tut

      • dev/null says:

Sony has really crappy online services. If you want to play online you’re much better off with a PC or an XBOX.

  15. Deeno says:

I can understand that a lot of people aren’t too keen on the whole ‘piracy’ situation. But in my defense, I would say that it’s okay either way. Some people just want to save money on games or they can’t afford them but still want to play them. We can’t blame them! Especially when game companies are gradually increasing the prices of games as the years go by. I bet soon, games would be over $100 for just a standalone copy. And for what reason!? Better graphics?! Microtransactions?! Advertising?! Higher demand?! I could keep on about this. I’m personally a gamer at heart; but not a wealthy one. And that’s what makes me a pirate. Though, I’m not proud of that. But what can some of us do when we don’t have the same privileges as everyone else? You can hate us all you want, but where the video game industry is heading, is something I don’t want to be a part of. Especially when they try to squeeze as much money as they can out of our limited pockets.

    • JustAnotherOne says:

i just don’t buy games on their first years anymore. wait a year later and when the “Complete” edition releases, i buy.

    • n774 says:

      >We can’t blame them! Especially when game companies are gradually increasing the prices of games as the years go by.

Someone never heard of this non-video game industry exclusive thing called ‘inflation’
You do know the money spent on a $40 nes game bought in 1986 or a $50 snes game bought in 1991 is worth $90’ish in current modern day money right?

      >But what can some of us do when we don’t have the same privileges as everyone else?

      Work

      • Keith L Salmon II says:

games now a days are even more than that. with a season pass and everything is 90 to 100 bucks. Now in some countries video games are very expensive so I do understand a little but yeah like everything else. if you cant afford it, you work for it. And if the company is doing some shady business practices.you just do not buy an support. Me I like my homebrew and yeah I like downloading games simple as that.

The Sixty Dollar Myth (The Jimquisition)

        • Jack Attack says:

Stupid and nonsense. Anyone that bothered to educate themselves would know that DLC and season passes skyrocketed after consumers changed their buying habits and wanted everything on “sale”. Games today may have DLC and Season Passes but they also go on steep discount, 30-50% within their first 6 months after launch.

That was unheard of for AAA games in the 20th century and if you look at the data, DLC and Season passes have more to do with rate of discounts than inflation.

That’s not to say DLC and Season Passes can’t lead to exploitation but that’s also a different argument.

        • n774 says:

Clicked through the video quickly and Jim seems to be saying a $60 base game nowadays is lacking in content and required extra content in the form of DLC, season passes etc. Usually adding up another $20-50

If anything Jim seems to be saying the same thing I did
          >You do know the money spent on a $40 nes game bought in 1986 or a $50 snes game bought in 1991 is worth $90’ish in current modern day money right?

A NES or SNES game would be $90 when bought in current day money, around the same as a $60 base game and a $30 season pass.

The problem is nowadays people, like Deeno, don’t even want to spend money on games to begin with, having this feeling of entitlement that it’s fine to get goods or services without paying for them. Claiming “I don’t have money for games”. Sure EA or Blizzard won’t care about losing out on petty money, but do remember that there are people just like you and me who worked hard for games and also deserve to get paid. Upper management over at EA won’t be paying their deficits out of their own wallets, but instead they’ll restructure or fire workers instead.

I don’t mind if people pirate their games, it’s their own decision to do so but people shouldn’t be such self righteous jerks about it; They’re still using something people worked hard for, so they should at the very least appreciate the evil big corporates for bringing them the games, the people who worked on the games and people who buy the games.

  16. JohnDoe says:

“As of now, only games that require firmware 4.05 or less are impacted by this flood of piracy. This means games from 2017, and upcoming PS4 games are not impacted by this.”

So this means that piracy already ended for future titles? how many devs force buyers to upgrade firmware?

  17. Wewe says:

“People who worry about piracy for the sake of game preservation have warned that the current dumps being circulated will lead to compatibility issues in the future” – can somebody extrapolate on this?

    • n774 says:

Game preservists want clean dumps of stuff, or as clean as possible, for the sake of archiving data for the future.
At times, when software gets hacked with iffy, they might work just fine’ish on currently systems or have some tiny hiccups, but applied hacks might bring issues when people get a good understanding of the system architecture and perfect emulating the thing in 2030.

Imagine if in 2030 all hard and digital copies and roms of Super Mario Bros 1 disappeared save for a solebad dump where the game freezes on very specific conditions. People wouldn’t be happy.

  18. Abtin says:

sorry I’m not really technically informed about ps4 hacking/jailbreak, my question is, what exactly makes running games that were released after frameware 4.05 impossible? can’t they change the games code or crack the games or maybe use this exploit so that those games run on an older frameware?

    • Anath says:

Every firmware has a private key, that the game developers, using latest Sony SDK, sign their application with.
So a given firmware can run games that were signed with every firmware key released before.
A firmware developed in 2016, does not include keys used to sign games in 2018

Hope that makes it a bit easier to understand (above explanation is a bit summarized)

  19. Carl Trek says:

In China some guys are selling so-called “piracy-ready” PS4 before this. Someone once showed me that but both I and he have no idea how that works. Someone say that it is done by a special chip installed on the motherboard, like what you do to hack the Xbox 360 or Nintendo gamecube, but I am in doubt of this.

  20. Kurt R says:

“What we should hope for, however, is that the scene will not stop at piracy, and will also focus some of its efforts on Homebrew.”

    ROFL

    My God, this is priceless! 😀 😀 😀 😀

    • williater says:

I’m, deleting all my pirate PS4 games and am now writing ethical homebrew to help the homeless animals of Québec

Is it possible to downgrade a ps4 firmware?

  24. NotTellingYou says:

can someone please explain: “People who worry about piracy for the sake of game preservation have warned that the current dumps being circulated will lead to compatibility issues in the future. ”
    what does that mean?
