Can’t wait to try this out! Thanks for the post.

  3. Q13E5 says:

    Thank you for the info!

  4. Krisu says:

At 70% i have message “data is corrupted (8002f957) anybody?

  5. nobdhelp says:

I had a heck of a time with a nobd system last night. For those who have a broken BD drive starting step 4:
    install Overflow CfW from here
go to install packages from system root and install the QA toggle, Run QA toggle should go black then reload XMB after a minute or so
go to settings and scroll all the way down and press L1, L2, L3, R1, R2, R3, dpad Down all at once to verify QA has been enabled.
next you can install any CFW you want, but I recommend FERROX Cobra 7-3 nobd which his here

  6. Icedcream says:

    Good write up 🙂
Ive done a couple of installs now.
Wish I knew about Thibobo’s PUP yesterday :/

  7. Makak1984 says:

It must be installed at 4.82 or 4.81?

  8. anonymity says:

Thank you Aurora for this detailed tutorial, it does give me a more assuring feeling and will finally try the exploit on my 2011 ps3 slim model.

  9. Mercury says:

I’ve already installed a different CFW with this hack. Would it be safe to install the modified REBUG PUP file now from CFW?

    • MadMack says:

Modified REBUG is safe and don’t forget to install Rebug toolbox and modMan…

    • TehCupcakes says:

The instructions CLEARLY state this exploit entry point is designed for OFW! You SHOULD NOT use this method to install Rebug on a system that already has CFW. However, there are guides out there that explain how to install rebug properly from another cfw. (E.g. FERROX, the only 4.82 firmware as far as I’m aware.)

  10. H says:

I have done maybe 20 ps3s with e3 flasher the temps are never good even after applying arctic mx4. Syscon fan control idles the ps3s around 65 to 70 deg c.

I want to try this on a not much used, unopened slim ps3 to see how the stock paste idle temps are; but i guess thats near to impossible.

  11. makak1984 says:

For me it refused to load exploit… more than 10 tries and nothing

    • H says:

Did u try to dump the nor first? Just cos its a first try and dumping is safe as you are not writing anything to the flash. What error are you getting? Are you able to get the server running?

      • H says:

Ok i tried dumping only my cech2004 model. I had to create an htdocs folder within the extracted folder and COPY all files to htdocs also. Then i ran the miniweb from the main folder. This way i was able to get the server running. Also i used lan not wifi

    • Success...Brick? says:

I got “success…” on the second try (had to first enabled javascript – missing from tutorial). In the end the web browser just froze. Assuming getting a bricked console as a result so not recommending the method. I first updated to 4.82 OFW, put flsh.hex to root of usb and stuck it to the right-most usb port as instructed, then selected NOR page since having CECH-2104A.

      • Success...Brick? says:

Restarted the console manually from power button after 30+ minutes waiting. It still starts, but not sure whether the method was successful and can proceed with Rebug (haven’t made NOR backup either since was not in instructions).

        • Aurora says:

It seems that the exploit sometimes freezes even if it’s sucessful. Trying again has the done trick for some people as per the Reddit thread I linked.

If it didn’t beep thrice, it shouldn’t have worked.

          • Success...No Brick says:

Thanks Aurora! Got Rebug installed today after multiple tries (on the last try used controller through wifi and no usb cable on the left most port if it made any difference). Next testing what can be done with this: RetroArch installed and checked (no n64 emulation there yet). Then interested in PS2 emulation possibilities apparently requires Rebug Toolbox Full at least – didn’t today get to it yet and if some other useful posts and nice homebrews come by I will follow with great interest. Thanks a lot!

    • TurboSnail says:

After it failed on retries, click Refresh, then you have to start the exploit very fast.

  12. Valerkos says:

Hax successed, but, I’m waiting aroung 10 minutes and nothing happening. Do I need to panic?

  13. nebu_187 says:

I am so angry! I bought a PS3 and asked especially for a 120 gb slim because they are safe and they sent me a 160 GB one wich is a 3xxx NOOOOO

  14. Dude says:

Installing rebug keeps failing at 73 percent telling me that the data is corrupt.

  15. Machow8 says:

Why is this ‘Rebug 4.81.2 REX 4.82Syscon Thibobo’ better than ‘Overflow_4.82_v5_nobd_cobraCEX’ or ‘CEXFERROX482_100’? Or whatever and all them do almost basically the same?

I really wanna know about that before installing any CFW to my PS3.

  16. makak1984 says:

Exploit loaded well, but rebug still returns coruption :/ any info?

    • Aurora says:

If you got the 3 beeps. The exploit loaded just fine.

Recopy the file to the pen drive and check its MD5. File corruption after unmounting improperly isn’t something I never faced before. Make sure it’s the Thibobo file you’re using.

If that still doesn’t work, you can use Ferrox 4.82.

  17. piotrekhenry says:

If I read the NOR or NAND chart properly then models:
    2004A / 2004B with date code 0A
    2104A / 2104B with date code 0B
will not be hackable due to having a NAND instead of NOR.
    Is this correct ?

    • Aurora says:

2xxx are all NOR based AFAIK (and according to the chart). Only early FATs are NAND based

      • piotrekhenry says:

Wouldn’t that mean 2004 and 2104 (without the A or B at the end)?
2xxx does not map to a 5 character model code which would be 2xxxA or 2xxxB in this case…
This whole question was based due to the chart not mentioning any 2xxxX models…

  18. tym2liv3 says:

Hi there, I believe the maximum firmware version is 3.55, Inthiught if you used this on 3.56 it will brick your console? I have seen it written on some sites <3.56 but this means below 3.56 not including.

    • Aurora says:

It’s 3.56 or lower on PSX Place, PSXHAX and on the exploit page so I think it’s safe to say that minver 3.56 consoles are okay.

  19. anonymity says:

Worked without problems. Can anyone point me in the direction of updated tutorials of homebrews and such compatible with this cfw?

  20. Alex says:

I ended up bricking mine somehow unfortunately. It was a console I was going to give a friend, I already have my own personal jailbroken ps3 that I use from time to time. I couldn’t say what exactly I did wrong to brick it. I loaded the site, I did write nor and it said success and the ps3 turned off with a beep, then I try to turn it back on, and it wouldn’t. After that, it was dead

  21. LulAlex says:

Guys what to do about the risk of getting banned?

  22. Rakar says:

What’s the point of putting rebug and sony when they both work hand and hang?

  23. Manekineko says:

This is a more in-depth guide than I’ve seen from other sources, which fail to explain some steps fully. They just assume you’ll know what to do in spite of the missing information, but of course, it rarely works out that way. (I’m still trying to figure out how to build PKG files, so I can play PSOne games on my newly hacked PS3. Guess how well that’s working out?)

Thanks for posting this. Also, please stop screening my posts, because I don’t feel I’ve done anything to deserve that treatment.

  24. Luke says:

    How to dualboot?

Also on the 4 USB port PS3, where to put the USB in? From second from the left, or utmost right?

  25. Xenowildfire says:

Does my ps3 have to be 4.81 or 4.82? And what is the best CFW to use for a beginner? I don’t play online, would dual boot be useful and how to avoid ps3 OFW updates? Also mine is a slim so will 2501B work?

  26. Lain32 says:

Got it working on my 2nd try, very easy & will made. My also ruing on a 2007 60GB PS3, one of the oldest models & never got YLOD once so far.. most as I know how to make sure it does not do it.

  27. Jeffrhein says:

    2nd, i will try this 1

  28. Eric says:

Now i have dead ps3 with 8002f1f9 error

  29. Moj says:

    thnx alot
i’ve done this on my PS3 slim 2004B which had version 4.00(updated to 4.82 and than installed CFW)
now hence i am new to cfw what you recommend to install after successfully installation of CFW?

    • MadMack says:

With REBUG CFW install the Rebug toolbox an enable Cobra and dont’t forget to instal Modman. Then the doors are open for amazing Emulators, Homebrews and others…

  30. AdvicePuffin says:

If you’re having trouble getting it to start despite having the “success”, make sure your USB is 2.0 and formatted to FAT32. Copy a small song from the USB to the PS3 in order to get the USB ‘activated’ and make sure the PS3 knows it’s there. It worked first try for me after following these steps.

  31. cOcO! says:

It is not wise to recommend a syscon patched dump as these can bring problems in the future (remember 3.55 999 downgraders?). It’d be a good idea to rewrite the tutorial with extra steps on how to install 4.82 based CFW (ferrox is a good example), how to toggle QA flags with either rebug toolbox or the standalone PKG, enable system update debug and THEN install the official 4.81.2 rebug pup

  32. Frank says:

Failed some attempts, finally worked when i set the url to home page.

  33. Just another Noob says:

I did the jailbreak on the day they released it and I installed the cfw ferrox, the rebug is a better cfw? Can i change cfw? Sorry for the Noob questions, im new to this console mod stuff..

  34. CECH-30xxA says:

good luck you guys… I am jealous

  35. internal_ says:

My PS3 Slim kept freezing, every time I launched the exploit, it got to success and the waves in the background behind the browser stopped. I fixed this by using a different usb and formatting it to MSDOS FAT. I then set the redthetrainer browser to the homepage. Restarted the PS3 and it worked first time.

  36. Dark Theli says:

In my case worked after removing cookies and cache from PS3 browser.
    Use this video as reference:

  37. MeowDude says:

Holy *** I cant wait for my PS3 to get here and try this out. Its on 4.81 right now, and if sony releases 4.82 within a couple weeks I’m sc***.

  38. DrChaos says:

How many tries does this need? I get a success, but after that my PS3 froze serveral times… I have a slim, so it should be the NOR, correct?

  39. brontai6 says:

    Thanks for this tutorial.

I had issues on my first try. Got a fail and then a success followed by a complete freeze for more than 10 minutes.

I tried again a second time, not hoping for much but got a success!

Not sure if this helped me the second time but I proceeded to clear cookies and cache as well as browsing history from the PS3 browser before my second attempt. Maybe others experiencing freezing could try clearing browsers also?

    Hope this helps someone :>
