Are “backups” coming to PS4 1.76, and should you care?

it doesnt matter who did it but he should release a real proof instead of talk so other devs can look into it since PS5 is around the corner

“[…] firmware 1.76 would limit the selection to games that require firmware 1.76 or less. In other words, any game released on the past 3 years is out of the question. That’s more than half of the PS4’s library.”

So… 3 years too late. Nice.

The PS Vita took 4 years. I never purchased one, because there wasn’t any method of pirating on it. In contrast, I purchased a PSP Slim the day 3.60 M33 came out, and bought ~30 legit games along the years. Same with the PS3 Super Slim and Cobra ODE 4.20, but along with 5 legit games. If it wasn’t for piracy on those consoles, I would have never bought those legit games.

I don’t trust reviews, I don’t trust the covers, gaming websites, none of that ***. I only trust myself. If I play a game and I end up finishing it, I’m buying it. I have so many unfinished games (games that I played for maybe 1-2h) that it’s not even funny. Piracy has saved me a lot of money on games that weren’t even worth my time.

I don’t trust reviews or covers either, however I do watch video game stuff on YouTube, usually that is enough to let me know if i’m going to like a game. I watch multiple reviews from different people and judge from there….Granted, most of my new game “experiences” is from piracy. If I like a game that I pirate, I buy it. I treat piracy like a “demo” or “renting” a game. A lot of time “demos” that are officially released aren’t enough for me to tell if i’m really going to like a game or not….there is stuff missing or locked out (ie, the ARMS demo on Switch was ***…..but watching a few reviews, shows the actual game isn’t too bad, but still not my kind of game).

I exchanged my PS3 Slim 3001A (i think) for 2101A with a friend that no longer plays on PS3. Then bought E3 on ebay, downgraded and rebugged tha *** out of it. Bought PSVITA early 2013, 2015 the damn screen broke (and that was awesome, not at the moment, but later), bought another, forgot him after a while… Then i saw henkaku and believed his potential, do not updated my psvita and voila (bought a screen for my broke psvita and henkaked, now i local coop with a friend). i also have a psp with infinity, recently bought my first 3ds with luck, 11.0.0 FW, B9S’ed him hahahah.

EVERY console that i buy i look for the hacking scene, FREEDOM on MY property.

Like Sony should care. Piracy doesn’t kill systems. Incompetence does.

We need it. Unfortunately that post was a day ago and there has not been a release of anything. Guess it was scene joke after all.

Recently purchased a second ps4 because they are so cheap now. Still have my release one never been used waiting for the home brew scene to explode.

  7. Durk says:

I have a launch PS4 waiting that has never been touched, so I’m good 😀
I do however realize that there can’t be that many sitting on a PS4 with OFW 1.76 or under, and therefor, will there even be any homebrew or piracy scene to speak of? :/

This is obviously just another brag of some sort. Why claim to have something, and not only that, claim to have it “soon”!?? When you could just develop as much into as you can and then release it in it’s entirety!! This is what I hate about these hacking scenes– I’m not trying to complain, because I know we love to take what we can get and also I don’t have much in the expertise of reverse engineering these things; but sometimes the scene gets rather childish.

I’ve never in my life been so excited for something, and so repeatedly disappointed. And I’m 30.

Assuming this is true, I do think the work can be ported over to newer firmwares, considering that newer firmwares can also be jailbroken. This likely couldn’t just be downloaded and used on newer jailbroken firmwares though, instead a lot of work would likely to be redone to make it compatible with different exploits that must be used on newer firmwares. But this is very good news, this is exactly why I bought a 1.76 ps4, because I knew something like this would come up eventually, I’m not interested in piracy, but instead interested in just running my disc games without having to get up and swap discs. Owning and running legal backups allows that. But to own and run legal backups, we need something like this, since sony isnt too interested in allowing that. I’m so excited though.

[…] few days ago, scene member Zecoxao had shared a technique to run backup games on PS4, for owners of a console running system update 1.76 (currently the only fully hacked PS4firmware). […]
