RetroArch 1.6.0 – Released!
RetroArch is back to releasing yet another great update for the multi-system emulator that supports a variety of devices. You’ll be glad to hear some of the great new we have for you today. The last stable release for the PS3 port was 1.3.6 which was way back in August 2016. However, fear not, for RetroArch has finally brought back stable release support for the PS3. Despite Japan and SCE’s discontinuation, it’s good knowing the homebrew scene will keep a device alive much longer than it would last in the hands officially.
Okay okay, I know why you guys are really here. Let’s see, according to Libretro’s blog the PS VITA has gained quite a few improvements. They stated, “Developer Frangarcj has provided patches which fixes the slow file I/O speeds for the Vita port, an issue which afflicts a lot of homebrew on the Vita actually. Menu performance regressions should also be fixed. For instance, the menu was previously erroneously running at 30fps.” I haven’t had the time to test this as yet, so feel free to let us know in the comments below.
The following changes are the device specific changes for the PS VITA.
- VITA: Fix slow I/O
- VITA: Fix 30fps menu (poke into input now instead of reading the entire input buffer which apparently is slow)
- VITA: Fix frame throttle
Of course there are also core changes such as the following:
- AUTOSAVE/SRAM – Fix bug #3829 / #4820 (https://github.com/libretro/RetroArch/issues/3829)
- ENDIANNESS: Fixed database scanning. Should fix scanning on PS3/WiiU/Wii, etc.
- NET: Fix bug #4703 (https://github.com/libretro/RetroArch/issues/4703)
- LOCALIZATION: Update/finish French translation
- LOCALIZATION: Update German translation
- LOCALIZATION: Update Japanese translation
- LOCALIZATION/GUI: Korean font should display properly now with XMB/MaterialUI’s default font
- MENU: Improved rendering for XMB ribbon; using additive blending (Vulkan/GL)
- MISC: Various frontend optimizations.
- VIDEO: Fix threaded video regression; tickering of menu entries would no longer work.
- and much more!
Download Retroarch 1.6.0
Retroarch can be downloaded for multiple platforms on the official download page here.
Retroarch has indeed come a long way from where it first started. If you do encounter any issues please do submit a post regarding the issue on their forums or submit an issue on their GitHub. It’s also worth noting that if you do have a feature request or an idea that may enhance usage you can make use of their bounty system to encourage contributions from outside of the normal libretro/RetroArch/Lakka team.
any ideas to install this?
What platform are you wanting to install this on?
If it’s a PS VITA, you can use the all-in-one vpk (RetroArch.vpk) or if you wish install specific emulators for example quicknes_libretro.vpk
Thanks for your reply. Now that you say, i remember again 🙂
I member
PS3 version only runs on DEX CFW then is it?
Never tried Retroarch on PS3. I run CEX though.
Tried running the Windows Build. Virtual Boy runs great on it. Just wish RDragon Cheats could be used in it. But the Dreamcast Core of Reicast is slow. For now, best sticking with the old nullDC Emulator.
Nice to hear. I’m hoping the Virtual Boy Emulator for the Vita is improved. Awesome none the less.
Still waiting for n64
Same here.
I had a lot of hope in the release of the VITA 3D library and the access to its graphic card.
It sure isn’t small fry so I can’t develop it myself but dang, I was expecting so much from talented devs.
Any news regarding the use of VITA’s 3D capabilities ?
N64 should be a breeze.
Emulators need CPU power more than GPU power for emulation. The Vita has an extremely small homebrew base compared to the PSP. Anything that takes a decent amount of effort, and N64/Dreamcast emulation does, won’t likely make any inroads to the Vita.
Since it shares many similarities to a mobile chipset you could see some ports from there, down the line, but even that isn’t trivial.
Basically, the only way N64 emulation is going to happen is if someone REALLY wants N64 emulation on their Vita. For the PSP it was about being a challenge of theory more than anything.
For the Vita it’s not about being a challenge but a simple timesink no one wants to waste on, but I wouldn’t write it off completely, just yet.
Thanks for the article, Joel16. Looking forward to future updates.
Great. But they didn’t address the missing touch input for the Vita. Some games require the shoulder buttons, in addition to the thumb sticks. I haven’t been able to get it to work.
FBA/CPS3 …slow Sflll
Saturn emulator for Vita is a difficult task?(PS2 is a impossible task)
No progress GXM fun graphics API PSvita? N64/Dream cast/Cps3 full speed. Equip LIBRETO HELP FOR XERPI, PLIS .
