Sony releases PS4 Firmware 4.55, which opens possibilities according to hacker
Earlier today, PS4 firmware 4.55 was released. As often, the official changelog hasn’t been giving much details besides the typical “improves the quality of the system performance”. Well, at least it’s not a stability update, so there’s that? Of course, what it probably means is an attempt to patch some security holes in the firmware.
Hacker Qwertyoruiop, who has been front left and right of the scene lately as he released a Webkit exploit for firmware 4.07 and below (then stated he has a Kernel exploit on firmware 4.50), said: “sony updated webkit enough for fun stuff to be doable”.
@DjShinter sure but they merged to code with more potential issues than the previous one, and it has some jsc features that make exploitation easier

In a tweet a few weeks ago, he had mentioned that he was in possession of some recent Webkit exploits that wouldn’t work on PS4 because PS4’s version of Webkit was too old. It sounds to me that his statement today directly relates to that old tweet.
Wrote an exploit for a WebKit 1day. And for ***’s sake PS4 unaffected because WebKit is too old.

Not much is known on PS4 Firmware update 4.55 at this point. Qwertyoruiop has not clarified if his 4.50 Kernel Exploit still works on firmware 4.55 (although this is likely, given how recent that kernel exploit is, and assuming nothing’s leaked. In my experience, it’s unlikely Sony would patch a kernel exploit and release an update that fast).
