Adrenaline finally released, PSP goodness for all HENkaku users!
The day that many of you were so eagerly waiting for has finally come. TheFloW has decided to release an early version of his very hyped native PSPemu hack, Adrenaline. However, this brings both good and bad news: the good news being that you finally get to enjoy all the PSP games you want on HENkaku with no restrictions. The bad news is that TheFloW also announced that he is going on a small hiatus because of exams and will only be back by February, which prompted this early, slightly incomplete release of Adrenaline.
You heard it right, as of this current iteration Adrenaline is not fully featured. Some things are not currently working but TheFloW still plans to add them when time becomes available. The list of those things include:
These features are not included yet:
– 64MB RAM
– PS1 games support
– Ability to use ur0 as Memory Stick File System
– Savestates
That means that everything else is working and aside from PS1 games, which you have an alternative for, all the features you’d expect from a PSPemu are there (with a few extras!) and you get the full deal. You just won’t be able to enjoy the extra little goodies TheFloW said he’d add… for now. He says that should any critical bugs be found he will still get around fixing them, but you shouldn’t expect a new release until he is done with the exams. Now let’s get to the meat of the release shall we?
What is Adrenaline?
Adrenaline is a software that modifies the official PSP Emulator using taiHEN CFW framework to make it run a PSP 6.61 custom firmware. Thanks to the power of taiHEN, Adrenaline can inject custom code into the IPL which allows unsigned code to run at boot time.
Features for Adrenaline
What does Adrenaline currently support?
- XMB
- ISO/CSO
- Homebrews
- Plugins
- VshMenu, Recovery menu
Differences between Adrenaline and TN-V?
- Ability to take screenshots using PS + START
- Ability to use the PS button as HOME button
- Ability to use a custom graphics filter
- No file system limitation by using a custom msfs.
How to install
- Install any PSP game/demo onto your PS Vita (compatiblity for PS1 games as bubble will be added in the future).
- Shutdown your PS Vita and visit http://beta.henkaku.xyz/.
- Launch molecularShell, press START and set ‘Enable unsafe homebrews’ to ‘On’.
- Open FTP by pressing SELECT and copy the ‘adrenaline’ folder from the archive and paste it at ‘ux0:pspemu/’.
- Download the 6.61 EBOOT.PBP (for 1000/2000/3000) from the Sony server (google it) and paste it at ‘ux0:pspemu/adrenaline/661.PBP’.
- Copy ‘ux0:tai/config.txt’ to your PC and overwrite it with these lines:
# You must reboot for changes to take place.
*KERNEL
ux0:pspemu/adrenaline/adrenaline.skprx
# henkaku.skprx is hard-coded to load and is not listed here
*main
# main is a special titleid for SceShell
ux0:app/MLCL00001/henkaku.suprx
*NPXS10015
# this is for modifying the version string
ux0:app/MLCL00001/henkaku.suprx
*TITLEID
vs0:sys/external/libpgf.suprx
ux0:pspemu/adrenaline/adrenaline.suprx
Note that you replace TITLEID by the titleid of your PSP game (the name of the folder where EBOOT.PBP is).
- Reboot your device and revisit the page I have mentioned above.
- Launch the game for which you have added the plugin’s line to config.txt.
- Follow the instructions on screen.
- Enjoy
How to use the Adrenaline Menu
Hold the PS button until the ‘Quick menu’ appears and choose ‘Settings’. This button will not open the official PSP settings menu as usually, but it will open the Adrenaline Menu instead (the official Settings menu will be accessible within Adrenaline Menu). As I have mentioned, the PS button will be used as HOME button, thus pressing it will not let you go back to the livearea. The only way you can exit the PSP Emulator is by clicking the ‘Exit PspEmu Application’ option.Controls:
You can switch tabs using L/R triggers, UP/DOWN to move, X/LEFT/RIGHT to change options and START/O to close the menu.About custom graphics filtering
Right now, you have got four different options you can choose:
– Official: If this is selected, the official filtering will be used (the one choosed in the official settings).
– Bilinear GPU: The filter being applied by GPU does look a bit smoother than the official bilinear filtering.
– Sharp bilinear: This filter is an improved bilinear filter where scanlines are added to give it a sharper look.
– LCD3x: This filter has got vertical and horizontal scanlines and will make the screen a bit darker.About right analog stick in games
The right analog patch for GTA LCS/GTA VCS will be downloaded from here: https://github.com/TheOfficialFloW/GTA_Remastered. Don’t think that any other games will now have right analog stick patch too 😉
Download Adrenaline:
Ok, that was a handful wasn’t it? It is a pretty complete release however so it was to be expected. Now be careful in following those instructions because TheFloW created some pretty good and thorough guidelines that are pretty much failproof as long as you follow them. To get your hands on the hottest release on the scene right now simply click here. Extract everything and start the set-up process with the instructions given.
Update: According to TheFloW his original release had a problem with the detection of 6.61 update file. We updated the download link accordingly, anyone having problems should stop having them. Have a good one
Update 2: I re-did the instructions part of TheFloW’s original instructions because it was giving problems to many people. Just overwrite the lines with the ones I put and it should work – don’t forget to change the TITLEID part. As a last resort you can download this by reddit user parkerlreed (and thanks to developer Red for linking me to it).
Update 3: If you are using a Mini as a base game (like me) games probably weren’t working. TheFloW has released another patch to fix issues for Mini users, click here to get it.
In the words of the developer himself: Enjoy! I know all of you have been eagerly awaiting this so I’m glad you finally get to use it!
Have a nice weekend filled with PSP games!

My body… My body is ready.
Huh, since you linked the PCSX link:
I thought when you were running a PS1 game on the Vita that you bought on the PSN, that it ran in a native emulator. Are PS1 games actually running inside the PSP emulator?
If not, is there hope in the future via taiHENkaku to get access to the native PS1 emulator?
There is no native emulator, it’s always been the terrible upscaled and pixelated PSPemu running the entire time. Unless TheFloW can actually get the PSPemu to run at the Vita’s resolution (like I do with PPSSPP on my PC where I run it at 5x PSP resolution) but that’s not likely to happen. So PCSX-R is our only hope for good quality looking PS1 games.
so, everytime i’ll use the adrenaline, should I need an internet connection right? There’s no “betahenkaku offline installer”?
Huh, seems pretty lazy of Sony to not bother to port their PS1 emulator. I thought it added options like button remapping though? Was that just done by using the same sort of trickery the other Adrenaline post was talking about, with communicating with the Vita OS?
Actually, PPSSPP is also scaling resolution…
PSPEMU *is* the “native emulator”. On the Vita, which is what we’re talking about. Or is there some other emulation layer for PS1 games that actually plays the game when you launch a PSN PSOne Classic from LiveArea?
This is Amazing!!!
For anyone having issues with the 6.61 firmware install part, make sure the extention is in caps and there isnt a period in 6.61 (so it should just be 661.pdb or whatever the extension is)
Exams? Who can teach you?! You are already god.
hey i found a very good video explaining how to install andrenaline on your vita this is for anyone having issues installing andrenaline it worked for me https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GY_12oCb0ek
Thanks
I managed to run the ISO game by Metal Gear Ops + as a host based game. But a new problem occur.. Upon long play of ISO game I run Tekken. Hiccup sudden pop up of error c1-2858-3 and exist the game.
I’ve tried burnout legends and killzone liberation, both let you play for 10 mins approx, then black screen and same c1-2858-3 error. seems buggy to me, it’s pointless if games are going to bomb out all the time.
Nice one!
hmmm after installin 661.pbp and it gives me a blackscreen and error code C1-2858-3 -_-
my pspemu folder is randomly missing for some reason, I never deleted it and my psp games work fine
You need to install vitashell to see it then you can ftp your files
I..I might need help.
I just…. Can’t seem to find the tail folder, and I’m looking everywhere T_T
is this native psp emulator? is using all psvita power thanks
Can anyone suggest a psp demo to download? I can’t find anything… :/
I use Echochrome it under 50mb
You can also try Crystal Defenders. It clocks in at just 11MB.
Will it work on henkaku? And also how to install the ganes?
where to put the download isos psp game , i mean in which folder
ux0:pspemu/ISO/
Guys I have a problem, I cannot find the pspemu folder, I cannot create a new one either…what to do?
i get this 550 error renaming the file
You need to enable unsafe homebrews and to be sure to install the latest Vita Shell (1.42 as of writing) either by updating or installing the VPK. For some reason, Molecular Shell doesn’t want to show all folders. After running Vita Shell 1.42, you should be able to access your pspemu folder.
thank you , it worked but where to put my ISO and CSO games tho? I don’t see them…thanks
I got it , thanks.
Well, that’s absolutely awesome. Time to break the bank and grab a 64GB Vita memory stick for my hacked Vita. Thank you, TheFlow, you’re amazing. 🙂
cannot find ux0:pspemu/adrenaline/661.pbp
what to do?
lol u should download adrenaline and 661.pbp and put them in ux0:pspemu
I have put it in the corresponding directory, and to ensure that the same CRC32
I didn’t understand how to install, so this guy helped me out, reps to him: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZnEqzMhwrMo
, I cannot find the pspemu folder, I cannot create a new one either
Awesome !!! I use the VHBL Bubble (UNO) for Adrenaline PSP and it works !!!
Without henkaku vhbl starts and with henkaku active PSP XMB boots !
YAY , great work.
Everyone saying they can’t find the pspemu folder didn’t read the instructions:
* Launch molecularShell, press START and set ‘Enable unsafe homebrews’ to ‘On’.
* Reboot your PS Vita and then install VitaShell from molecularShell (https://github.com/TheOfficialFloW/VitaShell/releases).
Wait, so if I install this, I will no longer be able to play PS1 games on my Vita until it’s fixed?
You can’t play PS1 games in the Adrenaline environment, official PSN PSOne Classics or otherwise. You can still play official PSN PSOne Classics from LiveArea and anything you want through RetroArch.
That’s correct ZeroSbr, you have to update to the latest official firmware to play PS1 games.
Correct, you have to update to the latest official firmware to play PS1 games.
Copy files to ux0:
661.PBB
ADRENALINE FIX
AND
CONFIG.TXT included
Using LocoRoco Midnight DEMO
https://mega.nz/#!ucVkwLpb!-uCjFvvUtiMCUHvriH–GEiB61TUhhdKwSXYBPM6WdI
How to install plugins tho?
WOW. This is awesome. By the way, does pspdisp runs on this cfw PSP for Vita? If so, this will be awesome!!!
I’ll give it a try on psTV 😀
When I enter the PS Store I don’t see any PSP Demos available, just purchasable games).
I’m in the LatinAmerica Store, by the way.
Is that the reason?
Been following Adrenaline for quite some time now. @theFlow you are a hero!!
Does Adrenaline work if taiHEN is not enabled? If so does that mean that you could update with it? if you can update i wouldnt reccomend because there is no other way to access the ISO folder unless the failmail trick is unpatched in 3.63
Gave up on this, spent 3 hours trying to create the ux0:pspemu, without success, I have the enable homebrew on, I have vitashell 1.42 installed but still cant see a pspemu directory under my ux0: directory.
My filezilla FTP wont allow me to create the directory either.
Going to wait for a while, had enough for one day.
Huh. Had that problem just now, and after I restarted my vita, VitaShell displayed all the directories. While I couldn’t see all the folders in FileZilla, I could copy it to ux0, then use VitaShell to do the rest.
Thanks, it was because I was using molecularShell rather than Vitashell.
my brain explode with overjoyed, thanks.
I can’t run my backups psp games it always gives me error (C1-2858-3) and my bought psp games running but too slow and lagging as well any help please?
after installing taihen, a few folders cant be accessed and I even cant ftp. anybody can help me with this?
Try using VitaShell instead.
Hi Guys is anyone able to load Homebrews, like Emumaster, Deadalus64 or any other Emulator? I alway get that C1-2858-3 Error after it stucks at the PSP Loading screen. ISO and CSO Games work both.. Any Idea? Thanks
Isn’t there a way to install a PSP demo/mini on PSV that doesn’t need to make a transfer through PS3 or download from PS Store? I’m asking that because my PS Store doesn’t seems to have any free PSP demo or mini.
Very Happy about this!! thanks to the FLOW, great job man, everything works like a charm.
Thanks also to lunacryd for posting the video.
I’m using this on a PS Vita TV… as far as I can see, if I turn it off I need to connect to the website to do the “magic” once more… Is there / will there be an offline installer? or some sort of permanent mod?
I usually bring my vita TV with me on holydays or areas were there is no connectiviity so it would be fine to have some old PSP classics too in the same small little package…
Thanks in Advance to anyone who will answer this, (^_^)/
Thanks to TheFlow, Great Work man!!!
Thanks to lunacryd for the tutorial link.
I’m using this on PS Vita TV, as far as I can see once I turn off the system I need to visit the site to apply the “magic” again…
Is there a way to enable this process off-line? Will a custom firmware enable this with no need to repeat the process every timeafter turning off the system?
I spend some time in off-line areas so it would be a great to have access to PSP game….
Thanks in advance.
Sorry for the double post… somehow my previous post was missing this morning…
Hello, very nice mod you made yesterday congratulations for the creator, but why not create an offline mode installer “what needs to be done every time you turn off the console” or that make compatible with the old boot because not alway you can find a free wifi point if you are not home and you can not always keep all the time the psvita in pause mode
