VitaShell 1.42 released, molecularShell/VitaShell modes added
Just the other day, reddit user KawaiiAurora took a peek at the code for VitaShell and saw a few things that pointed towards the idea that VitaShell would serve a new purpose of controlling HENkaku settings. Fast forward to today and Yifan Lu’s post on taiHENkaku confirms what this user had found: VitaShell would indeed serve a new purpose of controlling stuff like the PSN spoofing feature and that he was just waiting for developer TheFloW to push this new update. Well, the wait is over since that update has been pushed and does indeed new interesting features. The Vita scene keeps getting more interesting by the day. As it relates to taiHENkaku, all you need to wait now is for Yifan Lu to do his magic.
What is VitaShell?
Changelog for VitaShell 1.42
- Added a brand new settings menu which is accessible by pressing START (design by WesleyPolicena). This adds the ability to disable auto-update and power options have been added where you can reboot, enter standby or turn off your device.
- Fixed local date being incorrect.
- The name ‘molecularShell’ will now be displayed if it’s runned as molecularShell, otherwise ‘VitaShell’. This will help differentiating the two applications, as molecularShell is from now on a safe homebrew and doesn’t have the full range of features like VitaShell. Additionally in molecularShell you can see the HENkaku settings section which are hidden in VitaShell (note that both still share the same eboot.bin, only the flag is different).

Everytimes I open wololo and saw a new progress to the vita hacking scene. I got an *** >: P. It is finally time for me to dust off my vita since 2.02 firmware. Thank to all the developers.

Doesn’t work for me. After installing taihenkaku, vita reboots after trying to install vpk wich gives an error afterwards.
Yeah I was getting errors too. You need to update VitaShell from MolecularShell (the one you get from installing henkaku). It’s confusing and badly made but that’s what you have to do. I’ll make an edit on the article.
Well i got around it by deleting henkaku. Then installing the regular henkaku and after that installed 1.42 and after that i reinstalled taihenkaku
its good that it has some options like power off and restart, but its useless unless they make henkaku permanent, cause everytime you restart the system you have do the install again.
Get the offline install. Its on wololo. Gives you an email that does the hack.

Umm im currently on VitaShell 1.41 and im not getting any prompt to update to 1.42 =/. Its always worked in the past but doesnt seem to work now =/.
Ive made sure that Wifi was enabled and I was connected and everything but still no prompt =/.

Hi!. It just auto updated to 1.41 via molecule; not 1.42. Now that I’ve downloaded the .vpk how do i get it installed on my vita?
do we have to delete old vita shell before installing new vpk from molecular shell?
