vOpenTyrian v1.0 (GekiHEN Contest Entry)
“Ask and ye shall receive” the saying goes along those lines doesn’t it? Well, for one I am glad I made it a point to emphasize Tyrian in Part I of my GekiHEN Wishlist because developer cpasjuste decided to grant my wish. His entry into the GekiHEN Contest is exactly that: an OpenTyrian port for the PSVita. So that’s one entry of the wishlist that’s now a reality, can someone port KODI now? Just not PCSX2, ok?
What is vOpenTyrian?
In case you were too young to remember, OpenTyrian is an open-source port of the game Tyrian 2000. The game was released in 1995 for DOS, developed by World Tree Games and is a cult-favorite shmup (shoot ’em up) that is usually ported to every platform available just because people enjoy playing the game so much. It was previously available for users with VHBL but now everyone can enjoy this game with (somewhat) less pixel-y graphics now that you don’t have to play it at an upscaled resolution.
Changelog/Features for the initial release:
Here is a port of the famous game OpenTyrian (2000). The game is running really fine, I did spent a lot of time to make it run fullspeed 🙂 I still have to add a few things (like scaling, which is added but not activated yet). To play the game, just install the vpk “and voila”.
I hope you’ll enjoy !
Ps : i’m french 🙂
To get your hands on this freshly baked copy of OpenTyrian all you need to do is go over to its entry page over on the GekiHEN website and download the VPK file. The data file is unneeded so skip that one. As you could read over on the initial release readme, cpasjuste will update this later with more features, so stay tuned for that!
Thank you cpasjuste and GekiHEN! Keep the releases coming!
A note from wololo to cpasjuste: Please upload the source code somewhere, thanks! Update: it’s on his github, yay!
