PS Vita Hack: An official release of Vitamin might be coming later today
Developer TheFloW, one of the hackers behind the Vita game dumper codenamed Vitamin, announced a few hours ago that he is considering making a proper release of the tool in the hours to come. This announce comes after someone leaked an unfinished version of the tool earlier today.
After the leak, the collective of hackers behind Vitamin, in particular TheFloW, initially announced they would stop working on the tool entirely, so this announce comes as a surprise. TheFloW made the decision after “thinking about it all night”.
TheFloW stated that the latest version enables 444MHz support for the cpu (which one can assume would make the dumping process faster), improves game dumping compatibility, and removes a bug that would corrupt the game if the PS vita goes into sleep mode. We also noted that it seems to add useful information such as a progress bar during the dumping process.
Vitamin is a tool that lets PS Vita owners decrypt and copy official PS Vita games, that can then be run DRM-Free on hacked PS Vitas, running firmware 3.60.
Given the sensitive (and beyond grey-area legality in most countries) nature of this tool, we will not be sharing any links about this release here at wololo.net. Thanks for your understanding, and for not sharing any such links here.
Thanks to need2burn for the tip!

First
Die
But I tell you, whoever comes first will be last, and who ever comes last will be first.
But I tell you, whoever comes first will be last, and whoever comes last will be first.
And thus begins piracy.
I pray we still get PS Vita games couple of years down the line…
Oh, I guess Limited Run Games won’t be harmed that much, and they are basically the only ones still releasing Vita games in the west.
What are you talking about? Idea Factory International, Bandai Namco, Aksys, etc. are still releasing PS Vita games. Those I mentioned even do physical releases.
Ya until this news.
nothing will change, Japan is main market and none going to pirate the games there due super strict laws
i just glad vita scene is good unlike PS3 and 3DS scene with full Gateways CART ***.
I and everyone else has said “PSP games where pirated near the beginning of it’s life cycle look how far it lasted” and PSP in the day was awesome it did last long after pirating was a thing, but the vita is hanging by a thread, and these may be its final years so games might be short not because hacking is the issue a sfalse rumors may preclaim, but simply demand for the console is becoming an issue as time goes on japan might still flourish, but the west might see fewer releases this is just the unfortunate thing supply and demand can be a *** to the minority like us
we will of course continue getting vita games
just as we continued getting psp games
after all those who might argue with piracy for not making any stopped making games a long time ago
Very much this.
If anything piracy will revitalize Vita, not kill it. But the most likely scenario is that game sales will not be affected all that much at all.
Piracy does not revitalise a handheld that is not widely available and has a library consisting of mostly niche games.
This isn’t 2005 anymore, either. A portable with the capabilities of the PS Vita is nothing special. We got smartphones for all of that *** now.
Comparing the PS Vita to the PSP is comparing apples to oranges.
They have already stopped making Vita games so homebrew and piracy is the only thing keeping it alive.
No, PS Vita games come out regularly in Japan. It’s very much alive there.
The world does not consist only of particular countries, you know.
Yes, but literally everywhere else but Japan is the definition of a freaking world.
The Vita only survives, not even thrives, just survives, in Japan because it’s an easy market. No localization, little physical distribution and not a huge, expensive network to traverse it. Better margins for Japan, especially when the money stays in Japan for Japanese companies.
Japan is literally the ONLY country the Vita is alive in. Most of us aren’t Japanese.
And yes, only in Japan with their super strict laws PSVita going to be safe there, none going to pirate the heck out of it over there unless they want ends up in jail. So nothing will change.
***. It’s not just Japan, either. There’s a Western shmup coming out soon.
Sony has abandoned the platform. Most publishers have. Most are already skipping most physical releases outside of Japan with only a few exceptions. Many are abandoning FINISHED Vita games, let alone plans.
The Vita is dead and has been since year 2 when it became obvious to people with eyes and publishers that Sony wasn’t going to push for the platform like they did with the PSP.
Yet again, piracy has nothing to do with the demise of a platform. Sony’s mismanaging of it and poor, or inconsistent, software sales do.
The lack of piracy didn’t save the Vita. It didn’t save the PS3 during the first half of its life when it was on life support and nearly sank Sony financially.
Stop blaming boogeymen and start paying attention to the real issues at hand.
Sure, piracy sucks for those that can afford to buy and refuse. But fair use is also great and I will enjoy dumping my Vita cartridges to my console to enjoy further ease of use.
And most homebrew IS used for PIRACY. Since we’re here mostly for emulators. Emulators in most countries are legal, but the roms are often not, even if you dump them yourself and own the game.
So, it’s always funny the hypocrisy of hitting one gray area while completely ignoring another. In the past, old games from abandoned consoles weren’t re-released. Those days have long passed.
Even homebrew that doesn’t make money is still a gray area since you have to pay for the privilege to publish on proprietary hardware.
It’s fine to be down on stealing, but this tool is not just for stealing. Like almost all tools, it has legitimate uses that are only gray because consumers don’t have proper legal representation and rights when it comes to media. You can say that this tool promotes piracy but if you do you better also acknowledge that emulators do too.
I really appreciate it that he came out with this mature decision to make a release. The scene would’ve been hurt with the half arsed leak we currently have.
Hes a good guy for choosing to do this after that mess. Those 3 could have done some amazing stuff together, its too bad it had to end like this…
history begins
I feel really sorry for what happened with TeamFreek. I really loved how for one they built up tension in the scene and the excitement was way better than this leak, and second, the tools they released so far were exactly what I wanted from a vita hack.
I’m not against piracy as I have less and less money to invest in vita games, but this leak was uncalled for. Needless to say, what happened in the reddit after the leak was utter chaos. Hilarious chaos.
I really hope TheFlow won’t leave the scene in bad terms with it. 🙁
Well he is coming back to release it official, and yes reddit was chaos after the fact what did you expect people wanted to throw everything out in the wind its human nature I get what flow was trying to do by slowly releasing bigger games like the binding of issac before the Vitamin release was a precaution to avoid useless spam like this but it would’ve happened anyway better it happens now so we find a way to sort this stuff out properly latter
“improves game dumping compatibility” that’s the Final bLOW.
“improves system stability” but the way better than Sony’s way :v
Este es holkeano:v
i wonder if this tool could work with psn games ?
Most of the games from the leaked version are PSN dumps I believe…..HOWEVER, it does corrupt PS+ games (leaked version does anyway)
I tested it and was successfull to dump my Need For Speed Most Wanted cartridge and install it back with the file and play it without problems so the tool works also with physical games.
Yesssss! Thank you TheFloW.
First
It’s a pity that the flow was constrained to release vitamin. Now any developer will develop vita games in future (it really dependes by the number of henkaku activated devices).
The best would be the release of a game here and here and olny old games
Well developers are not exactly struggling to release their games on this stillborn device. And new protections can always be set on newer games*. Firmware spoofing might be detected.
* If one can call “game” the current flow of stupid pedo-jRPG we get on PS Vita.
This app will be handy to me now i can copy all games be glad guys im working at game store second hand i can copy all games and share it here XD
Yeah………Nah.
First
I hope this release works better than the leaked one. Not one of the 3 games I’ve tried to dump have worked. They either gave an error during the process or finished the dump and then would not launch past the loading screen.
@TheFloW/Team Freek
:
Please add an option to decrypt the eboot only. Some people already dumped their games before the leak and it will save them a lot of time. Thank you for your work.
I really hope they release a proper release as the leak doesn’t work. I have tried 5 games/apps and none work.
They all usually end with an error right at the very end.
I can install the VPK but it errors half way through loading the game.
TFW he releases a new version of VitaShell that will stop the leaked version of Vitamin to run, that would be ultimately hilarious. Blocking freedom from being free, Sony style.
Only Team Molecular can do something like that, it’s like saying another random installed vpk can be actively sending out our passwords..
1st I have the leaked I can’t wait for the official
First to make cake
First
First to be last….lol!
This is a great news
first
I guess it is in the best interest to have it release officially since they have come this far. Just saying
Good news !
you going to host it wololo and unban me please same username as the comment
Didn’t I say it was due to processor and ram utilization
Yay
First!!! Piracy is best!
Graciasssssssss TheFloW
Now, something like r4?
I just wanna point out that you are making the right choice not to repost this homebrew .. Tough times are coming and as a fellow moderator in a similar forum and as a fan i would hate it if you guys were into any trouble ..
Do not succumb to idiots who are angry about your choice .. Ignorant muthaf**s won’t care about anything but themselves ..
Thank you and keep up the good work 🙂
Lol @ everyone trying to get a “first” comment.
I really don’t care if we don’t get any more games announced after the ones in 2017 like Bloodstained. A Kingdom Hearts, TES, or Castlevania game (Bloodstained doesn’t count) would have been nice, but it’s obvious that will never happen now.
to be quite honest, ive been hyped for this for ages, but now that I have it, I am struggling to find games I even care about, there are sooo many Japanese games and I swear they only know how to make one style of freaking game and they bloody love their RPG’s dont they ?! aside from a couple of ps3 ports, the ps2 ported games and maybe unit 13 if I have any space left, I really couldn’t care less anymore, I just want TNV to be ported to 3.60 so I can play psp on a machine not made entirely of crappy plastic (cough psp 2000 and 3000) with a screen that looks like a potato that had grains of rise stuck in it
All Sony has to do is make some special function calls in v3.61+ (3.62 or 3.70?) firmware to add some extra encryption and initialize the game. Plus close all known vulns. Then the newer firmware will need to be exploited all over again to make new (and/or updated) games work.
Where’s Stanislav when we need him so much… 🙁
You rang? ;D
Such a great news. Thank u so much *TheFlow*
5 hours
Its not good to betray, they did all the hard work and put their trust in someone and gave them a beta version for testing and he leaked it.its very bad for the vita scene, because they made it and they could have released it in the future.but someone leaked it that was really harsh.
por lo menos diran el nombre del sofware?
happy days are here again….
