[NUKE] PS4Tools by Keyaku
Just a heads up that some sites have been touting the release of some PS4 PUP/PKG extracting tools lately. The “release”, by developer Keyaku, is actually a repackaging of tools that have been circulating on the net since at least February 2014.
Now, it is likely that the dev just imported all those files in his github without any bad intention, but a low quality scene site claimed this is a new release so I had to set the record straight here, in particular since a more trusted site (hackinformer) also picked up on the info today.
So, yeah, the following tools have been around for a while, and described as this:
pupunpack: splits PS4UPDATE.PUP and exposes inner PUP files (encrypted).
unpkg: unpacks retail/debug PKG files while collecting data and dumping internal files (mostly a C port of flat_z’s Python script, at the moment).
See this article from GregoryRasputin (back when he was still staff on ps4hax), which dates back to 2014, and talks about the same release by a guy nicknamed RetroA at the time. GregoryRasputin pointed out at the time that the code had been obviously stolen from Hykem and flat_z. Same code more than 2 years later, being advertised as a new release.
Again, I don’t think developer Keyaku did anything wrong here, I’d rather blame low quality scene sites that don’t check their sources. I’m not talking about hackinformer (we all make mistakes, I have my share of mistakes too), but the low-quality site they used as their source, which has been a constant source of misinformation and unverified rumors in my experience.

The channel is basically being cancelled and rebooted at the end of the year. They won’t have anything to with gaming anymore. Which can only be a good thing after seeing that Wii U review.

I expected a more mature reply from you, considering Wololo was not saying that his site was better than the one you post news on, he was pointing out how its bad to rip off other people work and pretend its yours >.<
Mcmrc1, the proper way to deal with this situation is for your site to apologize for the mistake and take action to ensure this won’t happen again. As long as you keep the attitude, nobody will consider your site as a legit source of information.
I’m not perfect, but when people point out mistakes in my articles, I apologize and fix. Your site could learn from that.

Hi everyone, owner of the repo here.
As mentioned, this is NOT a new release whatsoever. It just so happens that I forked hykem’s original repo and contributed a few cleanups in his messy code via Pull Requests (it’s still quite ugly, but I had no more interest in updating the tools since then), which he accepted and pushed into his own repo.
Suddenly, he deleted his account and bode farewell, as pointed out in another post of this site; consequently, my fork started pointing towards someone else’s repo as a mistake, so I deleted the fork and created a new repo for the code. Nothing more, nothing less.
Also pointing out from Hykem’s farewell note (and I’m quoting):
«If you happen to still have my repositories’ code, feel free to do whatever you want with it.»
I don’t ask for money, nor do I claim these tools are new or updated. They’re just, as you mentioned, a repackaging.
I apologize for the confusion this caused, but I would appreciate it if you’d have sent me a message back then!
