How to: manually updating to PS Vita firmware 3.60
Lots of people are asking how to update to firmware 3.60 without the risk of going “too far” to firmware 3.63 or above. Asking your PS Vita by default will only give you firmware 3.63 (or above), so we have to be a bit sneaky. There are lots of tutos out there including here on wololo.net, but they are a bit outdated. So here’s one dedicated to firmware 3.60.
Note that this tutorial is about upgrading to firmware 3.60, not downgrading to it! If you’ve installed firmware 3.61, 3.63, or above, you’re pretty much sc*** for now and will have to wait until a new hack is released for the PS Vita. This tutorial applies to people who are currently on lower firmwares and want to go up to firmware 3.60.
Updating your PS Vita to firmware 3.60, the easy and safe way
Yifan Lu, one of the authors of HENkaku, wrote a system on the HENkaku servers to help you simply upgrade to firmware 3.60:
Set your DNS to 212.47.229.76 and choose to update from Wi-Fi. Proceed only if the message says “A new version of the system software is available. Firmware 3.60 (変革 Compatible)”. That’s it!
If you’re having issues with this easy way, check the detailed steps at the source here.
Old technique to update your PS vita to firmware 3.60
If, for some reason, the technique above does not work for you, you can still use the “older” and more complex technique, described below:
We’re basically tricking the PS vita into thinking it found the latest update on our PC through the use of QCMA.
- Download the PS Vita 3.60 firmware from this page.
- If you own a PS TV, stop here and check the official process to get an update from a USB Key (you basically need to copy PSVUPDAT.PUP to a folder named PSVITA/UPDATE/ on your usb key). You’re done.
- Download and install QCMA (you’ll need that tool a lot now that firmware 3.60 is mpot the latest version!)
- The firmware you downloaded is named PSVUPDAT.PUP. Rename it to PSP2UPDAT.PUP
- Copy the file into your QCMA Updates Folder (you can see that folder by launching QCMA and opening the settings). On windows that’s typically c:\users\[your username]\Documents\PSV Updates
- Download this file and put it into the Updates folder as well. (link down? Try this one)
- Important: This file is for the us version of the PS Vita. For other regions, you will need to update the xml and replace <region id=”us”> with <region id=”xx”> where “xx” is your region. You can do this with any text editor.
- On your PS Vita, make sure to go into airplane mode in the settings.
- Launch QCMA from your PC, then plug in your PS Vita via USB.
- In the Vita’s Settings, go to System Update, and Update from PC
- Triple check that the update says Firmware 3.60, and nothing else (in particular not firmware 3.61/3.63, or anything above 3.60!)
- Update!
Note for those of you who have downloaded (but not installed yet) firmware 3.61/3.63, or anything above 3.60: you can allegedly delete it from the bubble at the corner of your PS Vita. Then reboot and you should be good to start this tutorial.
Hi! I’ve done the procedure for updating my PS vita from 3.61 to 3.60, but I faced an error which says: The latest version of the system software is already installed.

It is impossible to downgrade. Updating means go up, and downgrading means down.

web. I most certainly will rrecommend this site!
I love reading an article that can make people think.
Also, thanks for allowing for me to comment!
…same problem:
On my PC notification bar, the qcma says: The PSVita has requested an update check, sending embedded XML file (version 0.00)
Can I update a PCH-2000 unit (JP) to a 3.60 US firmware using this method?
The xml link isn’t a download, just goes to a page with the code, I’m not sure what i’m supposed to do with that.
right click and save as, it is a xml file, if you just click it, your browser will open it.
open the link with google chrome and save it from tools ..save as xml and chose the folder

me too, please help
region code problem
try “as” or “sa”
or just google the error code and you got some answers
edit in xml?
Do you know by any chance the region code valid in the middle east countries? My Psvita comes from Qatar. Thanks a lot for your help.
What’s the region code for a UK PS Vita?
UK? GB? EU?
Did you ever find out?
yeah i want to know the same
Just bought a certified refurbished PCH-1104 Vita off of amazon and I assumed it was a US vita. Turns out it is not, and changing the region code from us to eu worked for me (was getting the C3-10698-4 error) . Unsure if it is case sensitive or not, I just used lowercase since that’s how it was by default.
I did AU and it worked
use this to determine region code from model number.

Obviously once you have FW 3.61 it’ too late.. Forget about henkaku.. The only option left is VHBL!! So sad!!! It makes me want to buy a new vita system
It’s probably a worthy purchase, if you were planning on playing games
don’t know how much these things sell for though- aren’t they pretty cheap?
Can I use this to downgrade or will it brick my device?
http://www.example.com/PSP2UPDAT.PUP
you cant downgrade. made the same mistake as you did and upgraded my device to 3.6.5
Can 3.61 be downgraded to 3.60 guys. Or just only lower firmware can be updated. I have already tried so hard on 3.61. Help.
This was written at the beginning of the tutorial – “Note that this tutorial is about upgrading to firmware 3.60, not downgrading to it! If you’ve installed firmware 3.61, you’re pretty much sc*** for now and will have to wait until a new hack is released for the PS Vita.”
Which part did you not understand?
Quite beneficial details. I did not know about the lemon juice
getting helpful for lightening dark circles below one’s eyes.
it has already a 3.63 version why all people here keeps on talking about 3.61???
Today, I went to the beach front with my children. I found a sea shell and gave it to my 4 year old
daughter and said “You can hear the ocean if you put this to your ear.” She put the shell
to her ear andd screamed. There was a hermikt crab inside and it pinched
her ear. She never wants to go back! LoL I know this is totally off
topic but I had to tell someone!
is it possible to update any other way without using the usb port?? i got a used vita with 3.51 but the port is wrecked
In the top 10 of the favorite posts, thanks!
I don’t know if mine is Asian or Japan. So what do I put for region id=”XX”
I wish it was more specific. US is not the only region for ps vita.
This has to be my 2nd favourite post of the last few days,
i’m not able to’t inform you the very best, it may offend you!
Can you use this method to downgrade from 3.63 to 3.60?
No
This is the right blog for anybody who hopes to find out
about this topic. You understand so much its almost hard to argue with you (not
that I personally will need to…HaHa). You definitely put a
brand new spin on a topic which has been discussed for
many years. Wonderful stuff, just wonderful!
For those of you that had annoying trouble with the “firmware already up to date” message;
in QCMA settings, try changing “use this version for updates” to 3.60 Henkaku instead.
Worked for me.
Thanks for this tip. I had to do this as well for my upgrade from 3.0.1 to 3.60. Perhaps your tip could be added to the FAQ?
This tip worked form me, thanks! This needs to be added on the instructions above.
You saved my day.
CONFIRMED!!!
ty man
TY! I was coming from version 3.18 so i was confused at the “you can’t downgrade” responses
Saved the day for me too!
Thanks!
Thanks for finally writing about >How to: manually updating to
PS Vita firmware 3.60 – Wololo.net <Liked it!
Hey, Try changing QCMA settings. CMA PROTOCOL : Custom
Use this Version : 3.60 .
Worked for me
My PSvita is running on 3.55 firmware , but I still get the error The latest version of the system software is already installed.
(C3-12049-6)
I had the same issue, I assume they’ve updated the software since these directions were posted
If you go to
QCMA Settings > Other > Use this version for updates > and change the value to ‘FW 3.60 (Henkaku)’
You’ll be good
This post needs to be updated. QCMA is set to ignore the .xml file you downloaded by default. So that setting needs to unchecked I think.
Tells me “The File is corrupte” (C3-11038-3)
make sure you have renamed the PSVUPDAT file to PSP2UPDAT.
had the same problem and error message then check and found my mistake
I’ve just bookmarked this page, cool internet site!
I dislike reading lengthy posts, simply as i’ve got a bit
of dislexia, but i really enjoyed this post

Hi, thanks for the tutorial!
However, when I try to update (manual way) it gives me the following message:
“Could not connect to the PC.
Check that the Content Manager Assistant is running on the PC.
When Content Manager Assistant is running, an icon will be displayed in the notification area.
(C0-1 1264-4)”
I’ve installed Content Manager Assistant, and I’ve restarted both the PS Vita and my PC multiple times to no avail…
What should I do?
wow that is a good looking can you give me the pros/cons and do you think it was worth it?
