Giveaway: Zombies the Last Survivor (PS Vita)
The author of the Indie Videogame “Zombies: The Last survivor” for the PS Vita contacted me recently to offer some giveaway codes for the game. 60 codes can be found at the bottom of the article, first come first serve!
I wish I had good things to say about Zombies: The Last survivor. The author seems like a very nice fellow, and happens to have been on the homebrew scene for quite some time. Unfortunately, this is exactly what Zombies – The Last survivor feels like: it would have been entertaining as a PSP homebrew. But as a PS Vita game that people have to pay for (the game is $2.99 on the PSN), I’m sorry to say I cannot recommend this game to anyone. Some reviewers on youtube have called it “possibly the worst game on Vita ever”. (see video below)
It pains me given that this article is about a giveaway, that the author kindly sent me 60 codes for people on the scene to enjoy the game, it should be a cheerful article, but I just can’t. It simply shows that something that would probably have been praised as a free homebrew in the PSP days (this feels a lot like CSPSP if you thing about it) is just not ready for being a commercial game, even at a low price.
I want to thank Rafa, the author of Zombies: The Last survivor, for sending me these codes. I’m really sorry I don’t have anything good to say about the game, and I hope this article is not going to prevent him, or other Indie developers, to give it another go. The bar for indie games is much, much higher than it used to be 10 or 15 years ago, so significant investments in time and effort need to be made to release something polished.
A Description of the game in the words of the creator:
Zombies: The Last Survivor is a Top Down 2D shooter adventure in which you will have to go into 16 levels up to reach a safe place. This game is the first one of an Indie developer who decided to program for PSVita for many reasons, some of them were the game visibility in the PSVita gamers’ community, in front of the Android games visibility, or the challenge to get SONY Licenses and to overcome the horrible process to publish a game.
The game has been built using free sprites taken from internet, for that reason it is better if the players focus on the music (the best thing in the game) and kill zombies!! The music was taken also from internet and its selection is impressive.
The whole creation process took around 120 hours, spread in 3 month and the developer’s friends finished the game in ten hours, more or less.
The game concept is pretty simple, the purpose is to go from point A to point B and try not to die in the process. The level design was not easy at all, the first ones can be considered a little bit plain, but players will discover that the levels evolve and are not as simple as at they initially appear.

Except for the music which fits the Zombie atmosphere really well, the rest of the game is average at best, sometimes painful. The graphics are sub par, so are the animations. The gameplay is extremely basic, and overall does not bring enough excitement to keep the player focused. There are lots of good ideas (explosive barrels, multiple kind of weapons, zombie atmosphere) but the implementation is just not at the level that one would expect for a device like the Vita.
With that being said, the game is fully functional. I guess this is more than what can be said of some AAA titles such as Tony Hawk’s pro Skater 5.

I love that Jack White U2 cover (from back when a whole spate of them came out) but even in terms of modern music, it just doesn’t seem to fit Gatsby at all. It’s too raw and desperate–I always felt the POINT of TGG was the gilded surface and the shallowness and so on, like the surface of this pool that you had to look through to see what was going on underneath. Not “DEATH! DEATH!!!”Also, I could buy Leo playing Tom Buchanan before I could see him playing Gatsby.

When you think about it, that’s got to be the right answer.
I’ve been using your plug in and love it. My only problem is the hehigt I can change from 600px to whatever I wish. The major problem and question I have is how do I change the width? I’ve tried 600px,??px but does not work
Im having problems when I export from XSI as a collada file. It tells me that the genesis.shape item is not a model and exports the parent model genesis. Daz cant read it. I noticed that the file size is not as large as the example in this guide. What am I doing wrong?

I am in UK and the first EU code i tried worked. You were all just very late, there’s alot of europeans that bet you to it.

I have one thinkg to say , in Spain , the game can not be buy on the ps vita store , it shows only if you put the word “zombie” but the “buy button does not exist .And I thing that Rafa has to be Rafael – Spain , so he should speak to Sony why his game nider have price , nor can be buyed or rated .I used one of those codes , but even like that the store , does not let me rate the game.
I bought the game when it came out and gave it an honest go… It just wasn’t a pleasant experience. I applaud the effort, especially considering its development, but it’s just not a good game. Maybe it could be improved in future updates, but I’m not holding my breath.
I’m kinda surprised Sony approved it.
