This tutorial will cause people using a Japanese n3ds to brick. You need to add an extra step for it. It includes deleting one specific file

  2. Trenx says:

If you are using a Japanese n3ds delete the 000400102002CA00.cia file.

This guide links to a really old version of sysupdater that no one should use anymore. PlaiSysUpdater is the recommended downgrader these days; it is much more stable and will check the hashes of the CIA files before downgrading.

    https://github.com/Plailect/PlaiSysUpdater

Also, this guide fails to mention that you should format your 3DS before attempting to downgrade. This has been found to lessen the chance of a soft-brick, and if that happens then usuallly your only recourse is to boot into recovery mode and update your 3DS to the latest version (11.0 as of this post). And since software downgrading has been patched in 11.0, you are sc*** unless you want to get/already have a hard mod.

    • BenoitRen says:

What’s more, you should format your 3DS twice.

But really, this tutorial is redundant and potentially dangerous. Just use Plailect’s guide.

      • 3DSHacker says:

Wut? lol. no need to format twice.

        • Mr. Proves you wrong says:

Yes, there is. Some 3DS’ softbrick after downgrading for a reason that is still unknown. Because softbricking means having to update to the latest firmware (and thus, losing the ability to downgrade now that 11.0 is out), it is recommended to format the 3DS before downgrading.

Not always the case, but better to be prepared.

News is getting kinda stale. Maybe talk about the guy that’s trying to dump Zelda Wii u to a SD card

    @wololo: Please stop spreading old/incomplete/unchecked/whatever tutorials! That’s newbie like…

  10. ryo says:

give me a tutorial to downgrade 11.0 without hard mod and I will give you $20 bucks 😛

    • Ironknight says:

Its not possible, and never will be. 11.0 added a mechanism that checks all the system files, and if you attempt to downgrade, the 3DS measures a change in the system files and bricks. The hardmod downgrade will probably also get patched soon, so you either get a hardmod now and downgrade, sell your 3DS and buy one with 9.2, or you forget homebrew and downgrade as a whole. Your choice.

    • Roomsaver says:

      $20? Do it yourself

The problem with a tutorial like this is that the authors on github who did the work and assembled all the tools, update their guide on a nightly basis. Even if the downgrading/A9LH guide is good today, it still poses a far greater risk than using the constantly updated one by the actual creator.

I would also boot into a CFW like Luma without an Emunand and install the sysupdater as a cia that way you should be able to avoid the problems mentioned in step 5.

I’m currently on 4.5.0-4U. There’s so many different 3DS hacking methods. What is the firmware that’s pretty much across the board considered to be ideal to be on. I ultimately wanna install permanent CFW to the 3DS internal memory (sysnand?), and be able to run 3DS ROMs. Not sure how much of this is currently possible. I have Cubic Ninja, and “The Legend Of Zelda – OOT 3D”. I’m rockin’ the original teal 3DS (if that’s relevant). What’s the advantage of the flashcarts, and which is the best, overall? Thanks.
