Steam running on the PS4 (Video)
This video went majorly unnoticed when it was initially published a month ago, but /talk member OsirisX pointed out earlier today that he has been able to run Steam on the PS4, with games running at reasonable framerates.
This is not SteamOS on PS4 yet, but it’s still Steam and its games running on your console.
In the video, OsirisX showcases game Bastion, running from Steam on the PS4, at a playable framerate (OsirisX states most games run fine with mid to low graphic settings).
This all works through a build of ARCH Linux. OsirisX gave the precision that he compiled and installed the 3D Drivers provided by Fail0verflow as part of their Linux PS4 project. (these drivers’ patches can be found here).
As for everything “Linux PS4” so far, in order to run this you’ll need to have a 1.76 PS4 for now, running a PS4 Jailbreak. Recent news indicate that the joy of Linux and hacks might come to PS4 3.50 in the near future, but nothing’s guaranteed at this point unless you have a 1.76 PS4.
This statement from OSirisX comes in the context of many PS4 users trying to get Ubuntu to run with hardware acceleration on the PS4. Running Linux on the PS4 has been a possibility for some time now, but there’s no “all in one” user friendly distrib yet that lets one run hardware acceleration or Steam. This might change soon. I know this has nothing to do with this.But somebody has got to revive the DREAMCAST EMU for the PSP that no one can fnd today.
That is pointless. PSP has not even close the power needed to run dreamcast games.
How the//f/ //u/ //c// /k// did you come to the assumption that the PSP even had enough power to emulate the Dreamcast in the first place.

I agree , someone or some group should continue the dreamcast project for psp , but instead of doing it on psp , do it on the ps vita , its a stronger handheld then psp.
The Vita doesn’t stand a chance of running a Dreamcast emulator. It’s simply not powerful enough. With Rejuvenate you can run most Genesis and SNES titles well. Except for the SFX chip SNES stuff like Star Fox. So if it can’t emulate a cartridge console from the early 90s perfectly it’s not going to manage a CD-esque one with more complex hardware from the late 1990s. Obviously the Vita is stronger than the PSP but not by enough to have Dreamcast, N64, PS2 etc emulators by any means.
I think N64 could pretty easily run on vita, a 600mhz 256MB iphone 3GS could run Mario 64 at 10-20 fps, vita would be just fine.
Lol well all the best porting or coding a new N64 emulator for it then 😉
I’m really struggling between keeping my 1.76 PS4 or updating it to play Uncharted 4.
With the Neo PS4 rumor around, i don’t think i will buy a spare PS4 just to play a game. But it’s Uncharted 4, i’ve wait for it for too long … Really really hard choice

Can’t you buy Uncharted 4 on PSN on your PC and then download it on your PS4 just by connecting to the internet, without actually accessing the PS Store or updating firmware?
But does PSN game required some minimum firmware to start? I already bought the disc ver from the day one, and it required to update my PS4 firmware in order to play 🙁
I will buy another PS4 though, but i will probably wait until Neo PS4 released then get one of that
Buy the Neo when it comes out and have that be your retail console … Uncharted 4 is great but not worth updating for.

I honestly am amazed by anyone who hasn’t updated. I think the rarity of PS4s with old firmware is going to be high, because of the features of the system. Maybe you should hold off on updating since it may have cash value to do so in the long term?

Why care about steam os on ps4 with that low cpu power!! waste time… If I need buy games from stream. I prefer buy games for my i7-6700k.

Lmao thats the stupidest thing ive ever heard a 8 core which is like 6 core useable for games clock at 1.6ghz with 6gb of ram 2 allocated in its os. With *** 7870 modified can run latest steam games yah he played bastion a ipad game

By that notion, referring to the OS as Linux is false. It is GNU/Linux, were Linux is the name of, and referencing, the Kernel.
Arch is a Distro name, as is Gentoo, or Ubuntu, all built around the Linux Kernel.

That it runs Steam at all is kinda miraculous. That it doesn’t yet do it full speed is kinda like moaning about your smartphone’s touch keyboard because it’s not a full size desktop PC keyboard, IMO.
