A Javascript emulator in your PS4 browser does not an exploit make
Over the weekend, a few scene websites have mentioned the release of an emulator running in the PS4 Browser. That’s pretty cool (although reports are that it is extremely slow), but the reason this made it to the frontpage of most scene websites over the weekend was the wrong one: Some sites, including fairly high profile sites of the hacking scene, stated that the emulator was proof there was a webkit exploit on the PS4 browser, running on firmwares 3.xx, including the latest 3.50 PS4 firmware.
This couldn’t be further from the truth. It got confirmed later that the emulator is not running through any kind of exploit, but is simply a javascript-based emulator running through regular browser operations. Cool, but not as cool as some sites made it sound.
I’m not pointing fingers here. We all make mistakes on the scene. Hacking is a very technical hobby and it is easy to misunderstand things. Especially when a trusted website mentions a hack, we all usually trust the news and propagate it, which tends to create some sort of snowball effect. I have personally contributed to spreading inaccurate information on some hacks more than once here at wololo.net.
One thing I try to do, however, is acknowledge the mistake and apologize for it. I won’t name names, but some of the scene websites that mentioned this emulator have since silently updated their pages to remove the mention of any kind of exploit, which is better than leaving the page up with no update, but a more “professional” way of handling it would be to write something along the lines of: “note: an initial version of this article mentioned this was running through an exploit. We have since learned that no exploit was involved, and have updated the article accordingly”.
Anyway, that’s just my 2 cents. Bottom line is, yes, you can run emulators through Javascript in your browser on a PS4. It’s not necessarily a really enjoyable experience yet (FPS is not great based on initial feedback), and it’s probably not a groundbreaking achievement from a technical standpoint (the PS4 browser is, after all, running on webkit), but it still deserves to be credited as a cool thing you can do on your PS4. And yes, you can also run this tool on any other Javascript-compatible browser, this includes Firefox and Chrome on your PC.
You can test this here (on your PS4 of course, but really on any browser)

“does not an exploit make”?
I think its a phrase, using old english.
This is correct.
Correct this is.
yoda, are you alive?
yoda sh*t
No, it’s actually valid grammar. The way Yoda speaks is also valid grammar.
This is a standard construct in English. A lot of native speakers don’t get it, but it turns out all nine possible orders of subject verb and object are possible and used in English.
they forgot the equal sign.
This doesn’t use exploit. This is Javascript for any browser
But without exploit it will not work fully because PS4 browser doesn’t provide key event for most buttons on DS4 and all buttons on USB keyboard. So it impossible to find which key user pressed.
Even Android browser can do this. But PS4 doesn’t. So epic in 2016.
I posted some scripts and info which I found trough our local russian and ukrainian community (they use social network better than me) here: http://pasha4ur.org.ua/articles/difdevices/things-testing-ps4-hacks.
Will try to keep it updated.
Pidors,ps vita,PS 4 hack continue???
Wow… did the ps4 guys find nesninja?
That is ancient. I used it back when it was called snesninja.
Well it does for ps3news at least… but that’s expected from them anyway.
