Release: Davee releases Project Infinity – 6.61 Permanent Patch for ME & PRO CFWs
Just as mentioned a few days ago, Davee has finally released his Project Infinity.
Project Infinity will grant your PSP the ability to install a Hybrid Firmware, which in return will make it possible to install a permanent 6.61 LME or 6.61 PRO Custom Firmware.
Let’s get started!
Project Infinity:
Most of the information about Project Infinity were given in our last blogpost, and of course on Davee’s own blogpost over at Lolhax.org.
Nonetheless we would like to mention that Infinity is not a Custom Firmware by itself. It will install a Hybrid Firmware on your PSP, which can of course use a CFW.
The 6.31/6.61 Hybrid Firmware will exactly behave like the normal 6.61 OFW, with the exception that it can unbrick your PSP in some cases.
You read right, the Infinity Hybrid Firmware can unbrick any PSP (in most cases), as long as it had been installed prior to the device bricking.
Now let’s get prepared, because we have to take care of a few things, before we flash the Infinity Hybrid Firmware.
Necessary things & Files:
General Preparation:
At first you have to own a PSP that is not a PSP E1000. Any other PSP, except for the E1000, is compatible with Project Infinity.
As long as your PSP does not look like the PSP above, you will be able to use the Infinity Hybrid Firmware (the incredibly rare 3000 07g should, in theory, be supported as well).
Otherwise it is recommended that your PSP is currently running any kind of modern 6.xx CFW. This would mean a ME, LME or PRO Custom Firmware for the versions 6.20, 6.35, 6.39, 6.60 or 6.61.
If you do happen to run a 6.xx on any other version, such as 6.31, 6.36, 6.37 or 6.38, we would suggest to update your CFW to a more recent version, because older Custom Firmwares could be a problem.
It is also recommended that your PSP has a rather full battery (>50%) and the charger should be plugged in, just to be sure that the PSP won’t power off.
Necessary Files:
You will have to download a few files, that are crucial to installing the Infinity Hybrid Firmware. It is also recommended to have at least 200MB of free space on your Memory Stick / Internal Storage.
Depending on your device, you will either have to download the firmwares 6.31 & 6.61 for most PSPs (PSP X000 updaters), or the firmwares 6.31 & 6.61 for the PSPgo (PSPgo updaters).
In the end you should have the 6.31 & 6.61 updaters that your PSP supports. All PSPs that have an UMD drive (1000, 2000, 3000, E1000) share one updater file, while the PSPgo has its very own updaters.
You will also need the 6.61 custom firmware files for the CFW of your choice: Either 6.61 LME-2.3 or 6.61 PRO-C2. You should not use the ME CFW or PRO’s cIPL flasher; stick to the LME CFW or PRO CFW without cIPL!
The last files you will need are all provided by Davee himself. You will need the Infinity firmware files and you might need the Chronoswitch Downgrader v7, if you decide to uninstall the Infinity Hybrid Firmware.
The reason to use the temporary variants of LME & PRO is, that the ME CFW (and PRO’s cIPL Flasher) comes pre-shipped with a cIPL and a cIPL only works on the PSP 1000 and 2000 (non-88v3). These old PSPs, the ones that support the Pandora battery, should stick to the ME CFW or a cIPL’d PRO CFW.
Infinity is superior to the 6.20 permanent patch, but Infinity is inferior to the cIPL Custom Firmwares. If possible, use a cIPL Custom Firmware, assuming your device supports it.
Infinity does of course work on the PSP 1000 & 2000 (including 88v3!) as well, but it is recommended to stick to cIPL; you only need Infinity on the newer “unhackable” PSPs.
You may install Infinity on your old “hackable” PSPs, but it won’t be the optimal choice, due to cIPL being superior.
Preparing the Files for our PSP:
We do not want to brick our PSP, so we will have to copy the recently downloaded files to the correct location on our memory stick.
The Infinity Hybrid Firmware can only be successfully installed, if you copy the necessary files to the proper memory stick locations.
Davee’s files will give you 3 folders: Infinity Builder, Infinity Flasher and Bootloader.
All three folders have to be copied to the /PSP/GAME/ folder, so that our PSP will detect 3 new Homebrews.
You will also have to copy the 631.PBP and 6.61.PBP files from the updaters into the Infinity Maker folder. The Updater ZIPs may list the PBP-Files as EBOOT.PBP files, so simply rename them from EBOOT.PBP to 631.PBP (in the case of FW 6.31) or 661.PBP (in the case of FW 6.61).
Please do not use the wrong updater files. Only use the PSPgo Updaters on a PSPgo, and only use the general Updaters on a PSP XOOO (a PSP that has an UMD drive).
In the end the Infinity Builder folder should contain a 631.PBP, a 661.PBP and a plain EBOOT.PBP file. The Infinity Flasher and Bootloader folder will have a respective EBOOT.PBP of their own, you won’t have to touch (add/delete/modify) these folders at all.
As long as you don’t intend to uninstall the Infinity Hybrid firmware, you won’t need the Chronoswitch Downgrader v7, so feel free to ignore it for now.
Tutorial: How to properly install Infinity:
Assuming you have did everything right so far, we should now be able to properly install the Infinity Hybrid Firmware.
The first thing you will have to do is start the Firmware Builder. This will create a necessary file out of the 631 & 661 Updaters, which we will need prior to installing Infinity.
Depending on your PSP and its Memory Stick, this might take 2 to 5 minutes. On a PSPgo this is noticeably faster, due to the smaller Updater files and the PSPgo’s blazing fast Internal Storage.
When the Firmware Builder is finished, we connect our PSP to our PC once again. We will have to move the newly created DATA.MFC file.
We grab the DATA.MFC file, that is currently inside of the /PSP/GAME/MAKER/ folder, and will move it into the /PSP/GAME/FLASHER/ folder. That is everything we have to do.
We can disconnect our PSP from our PC and continue to finally flash the Infinity Hybrid Firmware.
Be sure that your battery has enough juice to keep your PSP powered, otherwise you may end up with a brick.
If you want to be sure that nothing happens, plug in the PSPs charger and don’t unplug it until the installation has finished.
Simply start the Infinity Flasher and be sure to read the Disclaimer. If you agree with it, proceed to flash the firmware.
Flashing the firmware will take around 2 to 3 minutes, and you will have to restart your PSP afterwards.
Your PSP should now be running the Infinity Hybrid Firmware.
Adding a permanent Custom Firmware to Infinity:
The Infinity Firmware Flasher has installed the 6.31/6.61 Hybrid OFW to your device.
What was that, OFW? That is correct. Infinity is not a custom firmware by itself, and will behave exactly like the normal 6.61 OFW.
This means that you will have to install the LME CFW or PRO CFW and then use the CFWs respective launcher, to actually start the just installed LCFW.
You can simply do this by using the LME CFWs Installer & CFW Launcher, or PRO CFWs Installer & Fast Recovery.
After doing this, you will have a temporary LME or PRO CFW on your device. Feel free to check the System Information, to verify that you are indeed running an LCFW.
The final step would be to make the just installed LCFW permanent, right?
To do this you will have to start the Bootloader Configurator. It will greet you with a ‘Welcome to Infinity’ message and its respective animation.
You are able to press Left or Right to switch to the Bootloader configuration menu and the Infinity Update Utility, respectively. Pressing Select will do a secret third thing 😉
Use the Bootloader configuration menu and either select PRO CFW or (L)ME CFW to make said CFW a permanent one. This process is super fast and won’t take a single second to finish.
Afterwards just exit the Homebrew via the Home/PS-Button. If you now fully reboot your PSP it should automatically boot into the Custom Firmware of your choice (as long as said CFW had been installed prior to making it permanent).
The CFW will be permanent, even removing the battery or it being fully emptied won’t wipe the CFW from your device. It is now a permanent Custom Firmware, that gets started when you turn on your PSP.
You can freely change the permanent CFW from LME to PRO or from PRO to LME, as long as you have installed the new target CFW prior to doing so.
How to remove/uninstall Infinity:
In case you want to remove the Infinity Hybrid firmware, for whatever reason, be sure that you use the official way to do so.
Do not use any outdated downgraders, Nand restore tools or any kind of (possible future) Firmware Updaters. Those might end up bricking your device!
The official way to uninstall Infinity would be by using the Chronoswitch v7 Downgrader.
Just drop the Chronoswitch Downgrader into the /PSP/GAME/ folder and drop the official firmware 6.61 updater into the /PSP/GAME/ folder as well.
Next start the Chronoswitch v7 Downgrader and confirm that you want to downgrade. Assuming your Battery has enough juice, the 6.61 Firmware Updater will run through and you will end up on the normal 6.61 firmware that Sony created.
Additional Information:
Infinity is not its own Custom Firmware, it only installs a 6.31/6.61 Hybrid Firmware for you.
The 6.61 Hybrid Firmware behaves exactly like the normal 6.61 OFW, except that the Infinity Hybrid Firmware lets you unbrick your PSP in certain cases, as long as it is not a 100% full brick (flash corruption). This does work on any PSP that runs Infinity, including the new PSPs!
You are able to update the Infinity Core and the Infinity Version of your PSP via the Bootloader Configurator Homebrew. You can either drag & drop the Infinity updaters onto your Memory Stick, or simply download them via the PSP’s Wifi itself.
Infinity is not based on cIPL, and thus works on pretty much all PSP devices. The only untested device is the 7th generation PSP 3000, the 07g 3000.
Infinity should support the incredibly rare PSP 3000 07g as well, but this could not be tested, due to the devices rarity.
Infinity does not support the PSP E1000 (PSP Street), because the PSP E1000 only supports firmwares as of 6.50 and higher. Davee is trying to make Infinity compatible with the E1000, but this will happen some day in the future, not as of this weekend.
Davee was able to force the PSP 3000 09g to run the (previously) unsupported firmware 6.20 (the 3000 09g usually only supports 6.30+), so I am certain he will be able to force the E1000 to run a 6.31/6.61 Hybrid Firmware as well. If there is a way, he will figure it out.
Credits:
Who else than Davee should we thank for this incredible project?! It took a lot of months to finish this Project and despite various failed tests, Davee only bricked 34 PSPs in total!
Otherwise, listed in Davee’s own Credits, we would like to say thank you to Nzaki, without who it wouldn’t have been possible to finish the Infinity Project.
Davee also thanks Darthsternie, The Z, Marco Antony, Balázs Triszka and all other testers that took part in the Infinity Project.
This is unfortunally Davee’s last project for the Playstation Portable, excluding the Infinity updates/bugfixes. He wants to shift his focus to other devices.
We hope that you will enjoy Davee’s Infinity Project on your PSP as much as you have enjoyed the previous releases as well!

I can format the memory card after?
If not, what I need to keep working for?
I have a psp 3004 09g currently on 6.61 pro-c2 and when I ran the firmware builder, I got “Error 0xFFFFFED0 mounting 6.31 updater”. What should I do?
Change your memory stick! I had a similar problem, because I was using a chinese knock off memory stick. But using an original one, everything went perfect!.
I got a different hex error and psp filesystem would only mount read only on the pc but when i used the latest 14/2/2015 6.61pro-c2 zip i was good the 6.61 proc2 22/1/2015 zip gave the trouble. the older zip still worked but i had to remove the sdcard and change files from my phone.
Many thanks man! You saved me. I’ve been looking for a solution to this for many hours! I got a original 4GB Sony Card on worked like a charm!
Just sending my appreciation along to Davee and the rest for their hard work and commitment to this project. They do it out of love, that much can be said for certain. I was not here when the scene was “at it’s peak” but I am very grateful now to have a device which can play all the portable games/systems I desire to run on it. Thanks so much for making this possible and thank you Wololo for having this space we can gather to discuss such things.
P.S. – Anyone out there still play Wagic? I would like to know about local multiplayer if that’s possible or not. Thanks
I would like to install the 6.61 Infinity Hybrid Firmware on my PSP-3004 Brite 04g model. Just there is need to repair the burned usb port on my PSP. It is possible to repair the usb port of my PSP? Because my and another PC is not sense my PSP via USB 🙁 Please reply somebody! Thanks 🙂
use card reader to transfer files
I just successfully installed it in a PSP 3000 03g that I am preparing as a git for a friend.
I wish to thank all and every person that took part on this firmware’s creation and the community for its positive support on the whole project! 😀
I have 6.61 CFW, shoud i update to this? I don’t see any advantage to update to Infinity.. maybe can someone explain me? xD
Your question cannot be answered fully unless you provide with your psp’s info 😉
With Infinity you get a) a permanent-feel custom firmware, b) cool unbricker for everything afterwards. It is intended for PSPs that cannot have a permanent cIPL cfw ~ that’d be PSPs othen than 1000 and (most of) 2000.
I have a PSP-1000 with 6.61 ME-2.3, permanently.
So, which features gives me Infinity, other than one that 6.61cfw gives me?
I don’t see differences O.o
infinity is for PSP2000 ta88v3, PSP3000 and PSPGO. infinity allows them to have “permanent” 6.61 CFW.
since you are on PSP1000, no need for infinity.
i used infinity on my PSP3000 and PSP2000 ta88v3. on my other PSP2000 that is not ta88v3 i use regular CFW no need infinity
Oh ok, now it’s clear! Thanx dude 😉
does this software work after removing memory stick?
YES! It says so in the developer’s site.
I also managed it myself 😉
Alaster, then, i can switch memory cards, without copying any files of infinity to my new memory card, right?
As with any and every custom firmware, yes, naturally you can. However, you should always format any memory card you are using for the first time with that cfw through the hacked PSP’s “Format Memory Card” option under System Settings, in order to have the folder structure effortlessly copied to the card.
In short you’ll have to:
a) Remove current mem card and make a backup of everything you’ll want on the other mem card (if any) in the PC, keepng the folder structure as is. You should definetely transfer your seplugins in order to keep your system fluid with your plugins and preferably your Recovery and PSP Infinity files inside /PSP/Game/ for just the occation (all these files and folders are relatively small in size)
b) Insert new mem card in PSP and have the system “Format the memory stick”
c) Copy the files of your choice from the PC to the new mem card minding the folder structure.
You should always use a Memory Stick Pro Duo adapter for card readers if you have one (it is *cheap*) as it is faster than transfering over USB and you get of course to use the PSP with the other mem card 😉
Have fun 😀
thanks Alaster. Related to adapter, which i am going to buy,it has 2 micro sdhc slots each having 32gb capacity. can i use 2 different memory cards which have relatively different speeds. as the adapter says it converts both into 1. so will it work for 2 different micro sdhc cards?
I cannot help you with that since it’s the first time I learn of such contraption 😛 I have a couple of pro duo cards from ye olde times that i abandoned in favor of my beloved 8Gb one. More than 8 gigs sound too much any more even more so. Just consider how long it’d take to load the games on the xmb 😛 if you have to use this gimmick go with one card only. Also, as a rule of thumb, different specs’ flash memory models are unstable to work together 😉
You coud find your model with the mentioned software: pspident, i think it’s called? it’s totally safe and trustworthy 🙂 Chances that you have an 07g model are abysmally small btw.
Finally, if you would take the effort to read through the instructions slowly once, you’d see that it is mentioned to backup your mc first (as you should whenever you’re to mess with it ~ it’s free and fast 😛 ). the process *will*format it at the end, i think 😉 Just follow the instructions, they are safe. When all’s done, copy any file you want from your pc *selectively* – don’t just copy the entire psp folder for example, because some folders maybe are changed?
Have fun! 😀
and Alaster, can you tell me how can i find out about my psp 3004’s model no./generation(07g/09g)? i dont have the box. but i have instruction manual.
and alaster, currently my psp 3004 is OFW, so before copying the infinity files, do i have to format my sony memory stick using my computer?or will it work without the need of formatting the memory stick? and pls ans my previous 2 questions also.
Thank for this stuff! work fine on my psp 04g, but i try to change my theme with ” CXMB Mod 3.71 -6.61 “, have CTF for 6.61, cxmb plugin enabled etc… everything ok, but this not work (no icons), you have any idea why?
hey man how did you do it?? cause i have the same model 04g and i have 6.20 pro c2, did you upgrade yours to OFW (6.31 or 6.61) than upgrade to infinity???
Because when i try to use the maker my screen goes black and nothing heapens!!
My PSP is stuck at 5% on the Infinity Firmware Flasher. How long does it really take?

this is probable an old thread

….a mi no me abre los temas tampoco
Thanks for the great guide. I just got my PSP-3000 updated to Infinity and it’s incredible.
Does this update fix the error when the psp go connects to PSN? I’d like to connect my LBP to have some DLCs and I’m having the error on 6.60.
I have a question: With this permanent CFW I can turn on my PSP and start the game I want, no need to enter in Fast Recovery anymore?
OFW will be like CFW mode?
Thank you.
Yes
Hi, can i install the Infinity with easy heart on psp 07g and 09g models? So it is will not brick the psp? Sorry about my stupid question. Thanks! 🙂
Just installed this on my 30xx 09g with 0 problems. thanks davee!!
may i know your fuseCFG?
My psp go now is brick . Dont now why , so sad . I just chose the PRO CFW not ME CFW on Configuration then it birck , now no psp to play . @@
Uhm. Forgive me for asking this question, after all am just a newbie at this stuff. Regarding about the video tutorial above at the time of 5:32 – 5:35; the person who made the tutorial stated that “I got my LME installer, I got my LME Launcher”. That’s where I got confused. I all have the files except for those two. The LME installer and the launcher. Although, I prefer PRO CFW and that’s where I got lost. Where do I download this PRO installer and PRO launcher. Would like to get some help for this ASAP. Am using a PSP Go.
Edit: Installation of Infinity was successful but still games doesn’t still appear. I placed them on a folder called “ISO” still a no show. Tried placing it on PSP/GAME again, it doesn’t appear.
Thanks for all this my friend. It works just fine. Appreciate it.
I also wanna show my appreciation to Davee and the rest of the team.
Good job!
BTW, I couldn’t find the infinity files in Davee’s website, but i was able to download it from here http://www.mediafire.com/download/vp7a8rbz2khp55e/Davee+Infinity+bundle+Psp+v0.3.zip
Guys, I have followed all the steps, but I couldn’t run the infinity bootloader configuration, everytime I click, it will just show me the psp screen and it will just turn off. Any idea?
Hi ther can someone help me out? i have the a PSP3000 Model: 04g with the permanent 6.20 PRO-C2 and i want to use infinity but when i try to do the maker the screen goes black and doesnt do anything i have to take the battery off and start again the PSP…
I followed the steps from the tutorial but nothing is working…. Any light on this matter?!?!
I have a PSP Go. Installed infinity it worked great except that whenever I pause a game it just turns off the PSP any help?
Thanx, i followed the tutorial but now i have a bricked device. psp3001 09g.
When i turn on i have black screen before then turn off.
Someone can help to ressurect my psp?
i put all the files in the correct places but when i try to open builder it says corrupt file… any ideas? i have a pep-3004
This is because you have not booted into a CFW already. Use PRO-C or LME without cPIL.
I tried to update my psp to infinity, but its bricked while processing to the final step. Completely bricked, I tried all the method to recover it but in vain. Can anyone help?
Worked perfectly for me on a PSP 2001. Followed all instructions, have only experienced crashing when you hit select in the XMB to access the CFW configuration menu and EXIT the configuration menu, but this is VERY minor. My only question regarding Infinity and the permanent CFW is simple: can I now delete the PRO-C Update and PRO-C Fast Recovery? They’ve always been annoying to look at.
P.S. For the “Tutorial: How to properly install Infinity” section, the first thing that should have been mentioned is to make sure you are booted into the CFW of you’re choice, as it seems this is where some people are stumped when they get the “Corrupted” message when launching the Infinity Firmware Builder. It should be obvious, but there are those that may not have understood this entire tutorial correctly and still believe Infinity is a CFW.
My wifi is a WPA-2 connection and isn’t supported by the PSP3000, how can I update the boot config/infinity via memory stick? When i try it, it says it can’t find update file? Where is the update file and what is the file structure on the memory stick that it needs in order to update? Help please!!!!
You need to extract 6.31.PBP file from official 6.31 firmware that you downloaded. Then 6.61.PBP from 6.61 official firmware. Copy both PBP files in MAKER folder on your psp memory card. And it will succeed
Hey, after following the steps for LME i chose PRO on boot loader configuration menu and my psp seems brick ,only a black screen , my psp is 1000b2 please help.
