PSP: How to Convert Videos to Play on PSP
Note from Wololo: This tutorial on How to convert Videos to play on PSP was initially published by /Talk member Jerald0, as part of our monthly tutorial contest. Jerald0 won the November tutorial contest for the PSP (a $10 PSN code) with this entry. You can find the original post here.
I haven’t seen any tutorial on these forums so thought I’d give it a shot. This is pretty basic but some people might have trouble doing it still. *Clap* *Clap* Lets get started now shall we? Below is a screenshot that shows the supported video formats on the PSP
From the screenshot above, you can see that you need to optimize the MP4 or AVI videos first. And the other formats such as MKV and WMV aren’t supported. But you can solve these issues by using a video converter. So:
Step 1: Get a video converter. I use ‘Any Video converter’ but almost any converter works. I’ll leave the link to the one I use here.
Step 2: Now that you’ve got a video converter. Add the file you want to convert and set up an output folder.’
NOTE: I’m going to use a general method so sorry if it isn’t specific to your converter.
Step 3: Check your video format and select the one you want to convert it to. In this case,Choose any one from those that are supported.
Step 4: Double-Check everything e.g. format or if the file is the same one you want to convert. After that,Start the conversion process and wait for it to finish.
NOTE:This one is taken from fonepaw converter 😛 Had trouble finding other good and simple images(Net issues). Eventually I just gave up and chose this one.
Step 5: Now its time to transfer it to your psp system. So hook up your psp to your computer.
Step 6: Create a folder titled ‘VIDEO’ in the root directory and copy the converted video file/s inside this folder. If you place them anywhere else it may cause issues with playing the video.
Step 7: Play the video on your PSP and have fun!
Hope you got some idea on video conversion by now. Have a nice day! 😉

Wow. PSP. That’s so retro. Back in the day, though, I used it a lot to watch videos. The xmb was excellent for that. I miss you, PSP.
Time Traveler NO.1!
Ok look even though there isnt much news this old info belongs in the psp repository.
so does your mom
BURN!!!! 😀
Agreed, Editorial.
It’s a shame the majority of this site’s userbase are all underedeveloped, childish, immature little, grammatically illiterate kids who lack the tolerance of being able to comprehend an opinion, without stating war, or getting offended. These kinds of people are mentally weak. The true “BURN!!!!” resides in their mental state, not the pathetically overused ‘your mum’ joke.
These words above me are words of a person who doesn’t get laid often…learn from this and never be like this person above!
Your comeback is of your own experience, so why are you telling us that you’re a lonely virgin? Things got personal way too quickly. Tone it down…shame.
:() :() :() :() :() :() BURN.
dam, u criticize my comeback and yet all u did was “attempt” to fire mine back at me….unable to think of your own? yup u def need to get laid.
I like xvid4PSP as a converter. Both for PSP and PSVita actually.
Xvid4PSP is really great if you don’t mind tinkering about with it. It may be a bit too long winded/slow/difficult to use for some, hence the simple/easy to use guide in the OP.
Your post has moved the debate fowdarr. Thanks for sharing!
we like to honor lots of other web internet sites around the web, even though they aren?t linked to us, by linking to them. Beneath are some webpages worth checking out
Hey, that’s the greatest! So with ll this brain power AWHFY?
I admit to buying an overbuilt stroller. The flimsy one broke in less than a month.Besides, there's a 5 mile dirt path around the lake in the local park, complete with hills and roots and bridges. My son loves to go with me as I run up the hills and coast on the flat areas.Sometimes he even sleeps:)
Or you could just get a Vita for cheap, it tends to handle most non-converted 1080p size videos with AAC sound. Or just use your smartphone. Converting video with decent quality takes time.
I always used DVDFab for converting. Not sure what the latest version is DVDFab9 or 10 but yeah. You can convert straight from a Blueray or DVD to any file format like the PSP. Even convert from a file type to another. It’s not a free program although you can get it unlocked by following a YT video etc. I would convert the DVD to PSP and crank up the volume as well. You can convert to PSP, iPhones, iPods, iPads and many other devices that aren’t Apple. Even copy copy-protected DVDs and Bluerays.
And if you are on a Mac, use my Video Converter. http://www.essl.de/wp/2008/03/17/psp-video-converter-pvc/
Oh, the good old days before phones or even cheap pocket multimedia players could handle unformatted video. I remember having to use Windows Media Encoder to encode to an intermediary video because that was all the one available tool at the time could use. This was prior to CFW allowing broader playback compatibility. Nowadays, I couldn’t really see anyone doing this because of the limitations compared to other ways to watch on the go and the videos taking up precious MSPD space.

I’m glad this is up it look like a more user friendly converter and could help people new to putting videos their psp or vita would also like to note for advanced user there’s a nice staxrip tutorial on here as well
or you can just use handbrake to convert
and PSPVC is still a thing
total video converter has an option specifically for psp’s
With vidcoder you have more control about the output quality, but you have to specify advanced settings:
Reference Frames: 2
Max B-Frames: 0
CABAC: On
8×8 Transform: Off
Weighted P-Frames: Off
Some more settings can be tweaked for better quality, but I have my vidcoder profile in a old computer xD
