PS Vita Revitalize competition: And the winners are…
Alright people, sorry for the delay in announcing the winners of the PS Vita Revitalize competition.
So, here’s an important disclaimer: in hindsight, it was clear given our categories (best homebrew, second best homebrew, best emulator, best non emulator) that some prizes would be accumulated by the same entries. As I reviewed the winners, I felt this wasn’t right with the goal of such a competition, which is to fairly reward as many good entries as possible.
As a result, I tweaked the prizes a little bit, and I decided to award the best emulator and best non emulator prizes to entries that had *not* won the best and second best prizes.
Put it shortly, TheFlow’s “VitaShell” and Skogaby’s “Snes9xVita” have been elected as the best homebrew and second best homebrew respectively. They were also supposed to win the “Best non emulator” and “best emulator” prizes respectively, but I decided to give those two prizes to the “next best” competitors, respectively VitaQUAKE by Rinnegatamante and SMSPlusVita by frangarcj. Just so you know, both TheFlow and Skogaby were extremely fair winners and both accepted my decision when I asked them if they were ok with this.
Last but not least, my favorite open source entry prize goes to VitaQUAKE. Wait, how about my wish to reward more people? Yeah, I’m not consistent that way, but people who have followed this blog for a long time know that Doom and Quake hold a special spot in my heart when it comes to running unsigned code.
As such, the final results are:
- Best Homebrew ($400): VitaShell by TheFlow
- Second Best homebrew ($300): Snes9xVita by skogaby
- Best emulator ($100): SMSPlusVita by Frangarcj
- Best non emulator Homebrew ($100): VitaQuake by Rinnegatamante
- Wololo’s Favorite Open source entry ($100): VitaQuake by Rinnegatamante

If you have a PS Vita running on firmware 3.51 or less, do give a try to the rejuvenate hack and to these excellent homebrews!

The irony is that you keep checking back here to see what responses you get. Wow. You’re first. You’re so amazing, wow. So inspirational… What a significant achievement. You must know you’re so flawless, because you keep coming here to check up on your significance with every reply you might have.

Lol I feel a little guilty making a point of asking what was going on with the comments section on the other recent Revitalize entry now, but I must say it’s nice to see good homebrew dev work rewarded. I agree, the VitaQuake port is pretty impressive, and TheFloW’s VitaShell/skogaby’s SNES emulation efforts especially. I hope this recognition reminds them all much their efforts are appreciated and to continue for as long as they feel they can.
