    Does anyone know if the chips that the firmware are on are replaceable? just solder an old firmware chip into a recently bought one if you’ve updated the firmware too far?

    Long answer unless you were lucky enough to dump $600 on an early starter kit fact is you probably will never find older dated consoles Sony or otherwise. Companies are smart with this sort of thing, even if you somehow acquired one chances are even then there is the small possibility the firmware would have have been tampered with during or after packaging before the shipping.

    You can still find some of these bundles on eBay but they are expensive.
    However that Special day is getting close for these :), they will probably only go up once exploits are released. Prices tend to run on the higher side for Amazon just an fyi…

    I might be buying a used CUH-1003A / B01. The user says he factory reset it. How can I know what firmware it ends up on? He does not want to start and look at firmware number. Can it be less than 4.05? If he once upgraded can it be reverted?
