Minimur, WTH Happened This Week?
his week there’s been quite a few interesting pieces! Much more substantial than last week that’s for sure, come and take a look!
First up though, we’ve got a new PS Vita game to introduce to you all, including news about MGS V, Bioshock, Assassins Creed Syndicate and the Nvidia Shield TV HDD problems, there’s plenty for me to ramble on about this week!
Heroes Of Loot: 22/9/2015
The link above is the announcement, and the developer Tj’ien Yeijnstra gave a nice little Q&A of sorts, so rather than you clicking the link above I’ve copied it through below for your reading, here it is:
In your own words, how would you like to describe Heroes of Loot?
Pascal: A new take on the old classic Gauntlet. A dungeon crawler open to all sorts of players, with all the deep statistical stuff of roguelike’s stripped out and replaced with arcade shooting.
What was your main inspiration for this game? What sparked your interest?
Pascal: Gauntlet ! And not the weird remake, but the classic from the 80’s. Before I started work on Heroes of Loot, Gauntlet was actually the last dungeon-crawling game I played. My goal was to create something that had the old feeling of the 8-bit classic but was updated with various current design concepts and tricks, including procedurally generated content, random quests, and just a lot of non-serious action.
What is your favourite moment in Heroes of Loot?
Pascal: I now mostly enjoy seeing others play and running into new things they haven’t seen before. There are a lot of players who will reach level 30 or 40 and say “well, now it’s boring, I’ve seen it all” but they most likely still have very rare items to uncover or run into different monsters.
I’ve read in another interview that it Heroes of Loot was almost cancelled during development. What were the difficulties you ran into, and more importantly, how did you solve them?
Pascal: It took a lot of tries and changes to get the current gameplay “working”. Gameplay elements really came together in the final weeks of development (from a nine-month development cycle). This might have had a lot to do with me having very little dungeon-crawling game experience to begin with.
Do you have some game play tips for our readers?
Pascal: Never, ever, rush into a steaming, puffing, fire-spitting Minotaur! Run away!
As part of a new commercial run by Sony/Playstation, according to them all the best games are on the PS4, take a look at the advert below, the games it advertises are:
- Destiny: The Taken King
- Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain
- Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection
- Call of Duty: BO III
- Assassins Creed: Syndicate
All of the multiplatform games above have exclusive content for PS4, but I can’t help but think this advert was a bit silly, 4 multiplat games and 1 remaster, there’s no denying that there’s a ton of hype for these games above, but either way it’s a nice advert!
I’ve just bought MGS, and will be letting you know how I feel about it next week, I’ve also treated myself to Mad Max!
Something rather interesting, is that Gamestop is now longer stocking console bundles which feature digital downloads, and instead supplying a physical game with bundles that exist elssewhere which supply a digital download.
This movement comes from not only a business perspective, but also to extend the physical copy market.
Realistically, giving a physical game rather than their digital code, there’s the potential that said game can be traded in, therefore making Gamestop a resale value for the pre-owned game, rather than a digital game, which you’ve got tied to your account forever….
I for one do prefer physical games, I used to prefer digital but had issues with my account and was locked out of it. So I prefer physical games now, along with that new game smell, it’s great!
What do you think about GameStops decision? Agree/Disagree? Fire off below!
An extremely interesting game registration for Pegi was spotted recently, in relation to the PS4.
If it is true, it seems like at some point, we will be getting Playstation 2 games for our Playstation 4’s to play!
The games rated that I could find were:
- Ape Escape 2
- Dark Chronicle
- Twisted Metal: Black
So for those of you who are impartial to the new and upgraded Nathan Drake Collection editions of the 3 Uncharted games, a demo will be dropping on the PS Store on 29th September, next week!
The demo will be of the Warzone chapter in Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, which if I remember correctly, it was the same demo that was on the PS3 for the game!
Here’s a video they released, of the most memorable moments in Uncharted: Drakes Fortune, footage from the NDrake Collection, take a look below:
As part of their TGS announcement, Konami revealed all their secrets regarding the MG Online section for the game, and they’ve made it look pretty darn awesome, this was actually the video which made me take the plunge and buy the game.
Take a look below and see what you think about the game:
If you’re loving the Witcher 3 still, CD Projekt Red have released a free Witcher 3 theme for us to use, take a look at the two images below, and get a feel for what the theme would look like, but not only that, the theme also contains it’s own BGM (BackgroundMusic), a musical score from in game- the countryside theme.
Wondering if you should pick it up or not? It’s free! What have you got to lose?
How many of you guys are now solid users of Playstation Now?
I’m not, as there doesn’t really seem to be anything too intriguing that would warrant me paying £5 for 4 hours, but getting back to the news, all Assassins Creeds are now avaliable on the service
- Assassins Creed
- Assassins Creed 2
- Assassins Creed: Brotherhood
- Assassins Creed: Revelations
- Assassins Creed 3
I’ve never actually played Revelations, and it’s always been a little annoyance that I’ll tell myself I’ll play it, but I never had. So maybe I’ll give it a go soon. Yeah, soon.
While we’re on topic of Assassins Creed, let me inform you about the 1TB Player edition of Assassins Creed Syndicate PS4 bundle. Not only does it include a 1TB PS4, controller and obvoiusly the game, it has bundled as a digital download Watch_Dogs, ‘at no additional cost’.
If you’d like to see what exclusive content the Playstation Nation will receive, take a look at the video below:
Just after the news of Nvidia boasting about how amazing their Shield TV is, just next week there’s news of a re-call for the 500gb version due to a faulty hard drive.
If you have this system and it is exhibiting these issues, you may be in for a replacement:
1) Fastboot menu appears during Upgrade 1.4 (even if system recovers after a system reboot you should get a replacement).
2) Severe and persistent pixilation in all tiles of the top row of the Android TV home screen (text in tiles will be unreadable and does not become clear after a few seconds).
If you are having these issues, contact customer care to get these sorted, currently it’s only 1% of 500gb systems, but that percantage can grow with time.
