PS4 Unsigned Code execution announced by CTurt
Hacker CTurt is on a stream of announces this week, and earlier today he announced he has “Code Execution” on the PS4. Understand, he is able to run unsigned code on the PS4, what could be considered the next step after a vulnerability, or the very first step to homebrews on the device.
It is not entirely clear what the announce means. Technically, we already have unsigned code execution through the webkit exploit, although this is limited in scope to the permissions of the Web browser itself. Is CTurt implying that he broke past these limitations through some privilege escalation (which would mean an additional exploit)? At this point he did not explain.

CTurt has clearly proven he knows what he’s talking about when it comes to PS4 exploits and hacking. However I can’t help but feel this is a hasty announce. When asked for some details, he replied he first needed to write a homebrew loader and reverse engineer the graphics library. Hmmm, yeah, that’s not gonna take long at all (/sarcasm).

For now, this is an exciting announce, but nothing more. It is not clear if this is restricted to people running on PS4 Firmware 1.76 (the webkit exploit was patched after this firmware), or if we should get ready for something bigger. It is also not clear how long it will take between this announce and an actual release of a homebrew loader (or even a native hello world). If CTurt even has such a plan.

Unsigned code for newest firmware? Please let it be!
Depends if like original PSP/PS3 model types and able to downgrade, etc. and original PS4 model from release, but who knows, it’ll be wiser to get another for online, etc. if can but the other for modding/testing. I’m curious if possible to run PC OS’s because like PC architecture, although it should be cool for homebrew, etc.

Well, i belive it will do a lot for linux ps4. With drivers he can use emulators at full speed and maybe with permissions we can install linux inside the system.
