The end of the flashcard era? Not at all.
Sky3ds still works on 9.9 and will probably always work. It may not support all games in the future but it will still work.
Gateway is not exactly blocked. The kernel exploits that it uses are blocked. But gateway team will buy more exploits and Soon© it will work on a current firmware.

    • Cypherous says:

Thats assuming another kernal exploit is even found, at this point the holes are getting smaller and the time between exploits is getting longer, sure flashcarts might find a way around it again eventually, but at this point will it still even be worth it, if nintendo patch the current carts out and it takes 6 months to break that fix, do you think sky will actually wait that long? 😛

Most of us managed to jump on the gateway train, which was the much better option, and thankfully that doesn’t seem like something they will break just yet

    Last!

flash cards are cool and all, and in the long run if they manage to keep working I may get one. homebrew is where its at though. one of the main reasons id install modchips was for their region free and ironhax will support that so that’s good enough for me. thanks smear for your hard work.

  5. motezazer says:

I love the silly “resellers” that say : “with Pasta you can patch the game and play it with Sky3DS”
I love them because if you can use Pasta/Any CFW, you don’t need Sky3DS to play the games… That is stupid.
But yes, I think that ultimately Nintendo will win the flashcard war.

We should note that there is not an official answer from Sky3DS yet.

A new sky3ds card with green button

  7. Rolenzo says:

It really irritates me that the new 3ds was released and only has 1 exclusive game.

When the NX project was announced, I guessed that it would replace the 3ds since it was released before the wiiu.

The popular argument seems to say that it will be the wiiu being replaced as it has largely been deemed a commercial failure, and analysts are suggesting ZELDA U may be delayed until NX.

ontopic: the 3ds is at LEAST halfway through its life cycle so you have a pretty large library of games even if they patch the cards.

    • neoman4426 says:

If by exclusive you mean it won’t work on the old 3DS but count things that are on other platforms such as the WiiU, the other consoles, Vita, Steam, etc there is at least one other exclusive one than Xenoblade, the 3DS version of The Binding of Isaac: Rebirth is New exclusive. Though that’s digital only rather than being on a cart

  8. Charles Fasano says:

Don’t forget that Nintendo has pulled all old system update files from their servers.

  9. Enigma85 says:

Nintendo hasn’t won anything. There will always be a flashcart war when using carts. It just maybe a win for awhile for Nintendo.

  10. speedy says:

It might be the end but who knows.

    Erhhh…… First? No one care

    First

    First!!!!

    Good.

  15. lmao says:

not, let pirates play ‘free’ games on 3DS, hopefully not Vita. lol

  16. Chiken says:

With the uprising of signature patched emunand loaders like rxtools, the use of flashcards are obsolete. Rxtools can do just as much as gateway can and it is still possible to load gateway menu without a flashcard to access those additional features. Not to mention emunand is up to the latest fw and can be booted on <9.2.

  17. GigaGaia says:

I will use IronHack for homebrew, then for piracy when someone decide to modify the guy’s work and make it so you can play roms.

  18. MTB says:

    Omgosh im second!

  19. Quade321 says:

Eh. Who knows. Pirates will find a way. Even if it’s not by flash cart.

  20. NoPatience says:

    some kind of glitch….im first!!

  21. Ricky D says:

Are you serious with this? Flashcarts and modchips for that matter won’t ever go out until the exploit people get off their high horse with that “no, we don’t support piracy” nonsense when we’d have to be pretty stupid to think that they’re not pirating themselves if they have a non public exploit……which they do of course. Bunch of hypocrites

  22. 173210 says:

Actually we have stuff to kill flashcarts.
ARM9 debugger was the last missing piece*, but I made it. I think it’s not so difficult for PSP hackers who have made kernel exploits for PSP to find ARM9 exploits.

    * In the fact, we don’t have any ARM11 debugger, but smealum is providing ARM11 exploits.

  23. Beaner says:

Flashcart is fun but I want to see some tools to operate on the 3ds I love to solder I have workstation ready just for it I work on all systems I make great money from soldering. Many systems later I was able to buy a green card and earn citezenship in the good ol USA. Now I can vote for trump!

  24. Goyscript Wpa says:

    4R cartrigdes still alive

  25. Daniel Whittlesey says:

Wish they had flash cards for ps vita

  26. Logomorph says:

Hardly the end. For starters, ski3ds will most likely keep working and that’s 99% of the 3ds library. Second, this being Nintendo, they probably botched the security somehow, so it will be cracked eventually.

  27. Frankie says:

I hope not. Even though they can be tools for piracy, they still have a legitimate use. I hope one day my Gateway can work on the latest firmware or if the Gateway is designed to allow for it, when CFW for the latest FW gets made, I hope my Gateway cart can just be used for extra storage and as a 3DS cart.

  28. piotrekhenry says:

From the title of thee article I was suspecting news about an exploit that would enable users to store and load backups from the SD card instead of flashcard – hence they would become obsolete. I dont think that another layer of security will hold long against flashcards anyway. Worst case they would simply make and release a new flashcard hardware rev and go on with their business…

    • Reprep says:

It is already possible. There are different custom firmwares for 3ds that accomplishes what you say.

  29. seanBubby says:

You mean more like the end of the Sky3ds blue card edition. Either the sky team will flop and roll over and die, or we will be seeing a green card edition in the coming weeks/months.

Either way, the flashcart era is still strong, this is just a set back, and only to Sky, as gateway made a patch in “five minutes” that dealt with Ninty’s antipiracy checks on their software.

    • G says:

      It’s August 10

    • GatewayLover says:

Lol, Gateway Team said this, but fire emblem and animal crossing were unplaybe for way longer than 5 min. So Gateway Team is not trustworthy. 5 Minutes…ha…but who cares

  30. woof says:

hey, if the CFW’s can find a way to fully work on the latest firmwares why not the flashcarts idiot!

  31. New World Order says:

Do you guy get it why nintendo let flashcart work in the place?
Of course to boost sale agaist competitor
by doing this, it will become win-win for both flashcart and nintendo

  32. Karen says:

wowowo, Sky3ds is not as capable as Gateway? Can gateway supports newest V10.1.0-27 without emuNAND?
