3DS: Freehax exploit game announced by Smealum. The game is free, grab it while you can!
Smealum had hinted earlier this week that he would be releasing a “free” hack for fellow 3DS owners out there. Earlier today, he confirmed the release would happen tonight.
Cubic Ninja prices have been sky high for quite some time now, in particular with the recent release of Ninjhax 2.0, which requires a legit cartridge of the game in order to trigger the hack. Semalum was not super happy about the situation (basically people hoarding thee game to resell it at higher price point), and had promised a free solution.

As always, Smealum delivers, and he just announced the name of the game that will be used for the exploit, just moments ago. You’ll have to act fast, because Nintendo might take action shortly to prevent you from getting the hack. If you’re remotely interested in homebrews, or region free 3DS gaming, this is your opportunity.

Smealum announced that you should download game IRONFALL Invasion from the Nintendo eShop. The game is free, and, it is safe to assume, has a vulnerability that will let people run Smealum’s Homebrew Launcher on the latest 3DS firmware.
There’s no doubt that Nintendo will remove the game from their eShop as soon as this piece of news reaches them, so get the game now!

I can’t help but wonder…wasn’t there supposed to be a hack that required Cubic Ninja only once? Or was that a different hack. I’d love to be wrong and to know that freehax is totally free, but I can’t help but have some doubt nonetheless.
yes this hack requires another hack to install once.
the benefit is that you don’t need 1 copy of CN/oot3D for every 3DS, you use it once to install and can then pass it on to someone else who wants homebrew.
Check smealums twitter. no CN or Oot3d in the first place.
prior to announcing the name of the game smealum mentioned still needing a cartridge based exploit to install it once.
apparently he just found a way to install the exploit without a 2nd exploit.
I just updated two 3ds to the latest firmware to download. I have OOT if an exploit comes out for that, but I think my firmware was too high for any other exploits anyway.
Is this on the JP store as well?
Wonder if we should grab 1.1 or not.. doesn’t say to, but can you back out an update without reinstalling? Not sure if it is a separate file or what.
smealum said both versions are fine, but you need 1.1 to play ironfall online.

Sure, there are no consequences to updating now. This exploit and all existing homebrew has been tested working for latest firmware. You might as well make use of the store on latest firmware until Nintendo releases another update.
To everyone asking if you should update: they most likely wouldn’t announce an exploit that you have to download a game for, if updating would not let you use the exploit.

It’s best to use Gateway instead. CFW is too buggy and only loads up well 1/5 of the time. Just install your CIA’s onto the Homescreen for Emunand.

On both the o3ds and n3ds it’s more like a 9/10 and the only advantage of the DRM gateway card is loading roms which can all to date be installed as cia to sd card.
I’ll up an image to the known sites of a copy of the cia, for cfw you don’t need to worry about it being pulled by nintendo.
Cubic Ninja and/or Zelda Oot will not be required, only Ironfall. Im so exited, hopefully prices for these two Games will drop. Instructions by end of the week hopefully. Thx smea.
You can install rxTools 2.6 + emunand 9.9 without a gateway card, then you can install games via cia, it works and loads every single time.

if not install cfw (rxtools with patched signatures)

It doesn’t matter. Smealum says that both the vanilla and updated version works. You can always update it and delete the update later.

Just search the game’s name on the eshop, then you’ll see the game, and the game’s update. Just tap the game’s update and download it.
Smealum said it doesn’t matter if you update or not. If you do update it and decide later that you don’t want the update, you can delete the update and it won’t affect anything.
When can we expect more information on how run homebrew on this device? I really want to run my old GBA games.

I would download it just to be safe. You can delete updates easily from the system settings.
Does this work with Emunand 9.9?
Why would you want this if you have emunand.. the ability to pirate and install homebrew without any special card or game?
I wanna run GBA & SNES games on the 3DS. Gateway can’t handle that as of now.
If you have emunand 9.9 you can install the cubic ninja game as a cia and get access to SNES emulator, then use rxTools 2.6 to get GBA and TWL support.
You already have access to all what this can do.

Don’t be ridiculous. If you have 9.2 then you should be using rxTools or Gateway to create an emuNAND then update the emuNAND to 9.9
9.2 is already exploitable I see no reason for you to update your sysNAND for this.

The exploit game is KINDA fun, but uncontrollable, IMHO… The C-stick on the N3DS is less effective than a D-Pad. When you play a FPS or 3PS, you can really compare 3DS versus Vita… This is no Uncharted: Golden Abyss.
I wonder if Nintendo will pull the game from the store. I downloaded it yesterday (August 5th) and it was still available and free…

nice. just got an n3dsxl. thought i would miss the boat (6-7 days since smealum’s tweet) but it’s still available in the eshop as of august 6th. either nintendo is slow to update their store. or they don’t have this hack high in their priority list. unlike sony and their team of ninjas.
don’t know if my other comment went through. but ironfall is still available on nintendo’s eshop as of august 6th. 7pm est. nintendon’t just doesn’t work as fast as sony’s ninjas apparently. but i still love nintendo doe.
Seems like they don’t have the same faith in the credibility of the hacking scene. Possibly they don’t actually care much, since the people with impetus to use such hacks on the DS are not their target audience.
Ironfall Invasion is still available guys. It’s now the 9nth and no sign of Nintendo removing it. I know this is a stretch but, maybe they won’t?
