You can already run these 9 emulators on your PS Vita through Rejuvenate
There’s been a lot of great releases for the Rejuvenate platform on PS Vita lately, and I must admit we haven’t been diligent enough about reporting on this. I’ll blame my intense lack of time on this one.
There’s almost one new release a day on the Vita since Rejuvenate was released, and I’m sure people are getting excited to try new stuff, in particular emulators.
Although we have the Revitalize Homebrew competition going on ($450 in cash to win, people!), this is (of course) not preventing people from releasing their work early, and we already have a significant amount of working emulators running on the PS Vita, which impressive given that the Native hack was only released about a month ago.
Keep in mind that you will need Rejuvenate up and running in order to launch these emulators.
I’ve create a page where I’ll try to maintain an up to date list of emulators for the PS Vita, but for now I’m reproducing those below.
So, what emulators are available for you to test as of today? Check them out below. Download links and instructions are provided for each one of them. Enjoy!
- VITA-8 – CHIP-8 Emulator – xerpi
- HandyVITA – Lynx Emulator – frangarcj
- Real Boy Vita – GB/C Emulator – xerpi
- RaceVITA – NGP/C Emulator – frangarcj
- SMSPlusVITA – SMS/GG Emulator – frangarcj
- Snes9xNextVITA – SNES Emulator – skogaby
- mGBA – GBA Emulator – endrift
- NeopopVITA – Better NGP/C Emulator – frangarcj
- NES4Vita – NES Emulator – SMOKE
Thanks to Warft for his list which was the base for this update. You can find more homebrews for Rejuvenate in his thread here.

Now we are talking!!! Is is too much to dream about running N64?
No, it is possible 🙂
I think the Vita have enough power too run a smooth N64 emulator, but N64 is already a bit hardware to emulate than a SNES. Can take a while before we see one.
Well, DaedalusX64 runs on the PSP pretty impressively. It’s not very compatible, but if it can run on there I think the PS Vita could do better. Maybe even a port of Mupen64 instead of Daedalus. The state of N64 emulation in general just sucks right now. No one’s written a really good emulator yet that runs most any game you throw at it.
to see what the vita should be able to do in emulation, look here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YNIYJYqRynE
they both have cortex a9 quad-cores, altough the archos has 4 times as much RAM but that should not really matter…
And yes the archos runs android (ie, linux, which is a unix-like) and the vita something unix-like based on freebsd/netbsd, but that also really does not matter. 😀
But really, if you want an emulation handheld , hassle free, right now, get a GPD Q9 from (for example) here: http://www.geekbuying.com/item/GPD-Q9-7-inch-Android-4-4-Gamepad-RK3288-Quad-Core-Handheld-Game-Console-IPS-Screen-2GB-16GB-Game-Tablet-PC—Black-343436.html
It runs nes, snes, master system, megadrive, some dreamcast, gb, gbc, gba, ngp, psx, ds (!!), and most psp games, and dosbox, and amiga/msx/etc. games and off course android games. Most of which have controller support. And it´s really really fast and has the best dpad ever and very good face and shoulder buttons (the analogs are not so great, PSP level, but good enough for twin stick shooters and games like walking dead and such, and most fps games, plus you don´t really use them often for emulation).
Just a tip. 🙂
PS vita has graphics comparable to ps3. The PS Vita is in a whole different league than PSP. PSP can emulate dream cast! in 60 fps by now in 2015.
The least PS Vita could possibly emulate is Xbox Orginal and thats alot!.
If you doubt what im saying, than you must think PS Vita is no more powerful than the PSP. BTW there is PS2 emu out for android now. Android games cannot compare at all to Vita games. If my samsung glaxy s3 can emulate wii with lower specs than vita , than imagine what vita can do!
It’s more than possible friend. Unity 5 is capable to emulate N64,With this, even smooth Wii emulation is possible.
Doubt me? Project M for Super Smash Bros Brawl was created in Unity .
PSM Unity=All Capabilities of Unity 5. “It is written”.

Second
Great everyday is better for the vita
I post a message about it wololo i think youve read it. jeje. thanks
Im on 3.30 how can I run this ?
If you didn’t get the regular PSM Dev Assist installed there’s currently no way. You can install the Unity version I believe, which has the same vulnerabilities but and is in the process of having the exploit/loader ported over to it, but there are a few hangups so you wouldn’t be able to use it at this moment, but might be able to in the nearish future
Im on 3.39 how can I run rejuvenate ?
You need the psm dev assistant if you want to run it now. That’s now impossible. You’ll have to get the psm dev assistant for unity and then wait for rejuvenate to be ported to it. Just google it, there’s a lot of tutorials.
You must have psm dev assistant on your Vita to run rejuvenate …
I am happy.I would play with gba emulator.W Kingdom hearts chain of memories
I have 2 Vitas, but 0 access to Rejuvenate. 🙁
I hope there are another solution …in the future …anytime.
How do these emulator run on the Vita compared to PSP? Are they any better?
In their current state, they’re pretty much worse. They’re just native (and ****ing awesome because of it). If you’re looking for good usability, just keep using the PSP emulators (for now ^_^)
Can’t wait for a good working SNES Emulator. Want to play the good old Final Fantasy 6 on it or Chrono Trigger.
Why not the PS1 version of Chrono Trigger? Looks better, plus you don’t have to wait for a good emulator to play it. You can just use the PS Vita’s PSP’s PS1 emulator. (So long as you’re on 3.18 I guess though. Otherwise sound won’t really work)
Because it sucks on the PS1. Load times are horrific. Only upside is the FMV’s but even those feel like an after thought. Much better in the NDS or SNES.
Eh. I played it on the PS1 (no emulators) and it didn’t bother me. But I guess that’s just me.
You can speed up the disc read speed and it runs flawlessly.
Because I want to play it with the very good German Fan Translation and not in english. 😉
Sure, FMV’s are nice, but I like the old SNES jRPG’s also for the simple Graphics that let you so much free room for your own Fantasy. FMV’s are nice to watch, but it ruins a bit oft this freedom. Today all Games are so well designed with so much details, there is no room for your own Fantasy. So good old jRPG’s without FMV’s with simple Graphics are bit more like reading a Book.
please, help me, when I launch hello world in the homebrew, this error message appears.
“Waiting for Vita to connect…

Thanks.
*UPDATE* – ” I do not have the PSM Dev Assistant installed on my vita, only PSM+, this may be the problem? As I install the PSM Dev Assistant on my vita 3:51?
I just want a nds emulator, please like drastic with awesome speed!
I may be wrong in my assumptions about the DS’s library but from what little I’ve seen, though the 2nd screen might be go underutilized (e.g. as a menu screen) for some games but for others it’s an integral (e.g. as extra controls/functions being required in real-time during gameplay) part of the game. How do you reckon that would work on the Vita’s 5″, 960×540 screen? Would you turn the console sideways to accommodate the two virtual screens? Squish and/or stretch the DS’s innate resolution to fit the Vita’s?
Boy when the 64 emulator gets ported and perfected i believe that dev will win the contest and all the cash. He she or it would deserve every penny to treat themselves to a beer!
Lots of beer unless the beer where their live is insanely expensive lmao
Nice, I’m probably going to hold off and stick to 3ds for now, but once these emulators have had a couple months to get good compatibility I’ll be all over them. I’m really impressed by the speed it’s been done none the less.
Wait they are all natif ameulator ?! I’m sure they still need optimisation but in the end they will run better than the psp version. In fact i have a great expectation for the sound quality which was some times buggy on the psp, but if this time they can optimise it and take all the power of vita, it’ gonna be awesome !
Yes, and new Emulators, where the PSP was to slow for it, will be possible too.
I tried to run the Amiga Emulator to play my all time Fav Turrican on it, but it didn’t run very well. 🙁
Really hope we get here better Emulators for native Vita. The Vita could be so an awesome Emulator Machine, thats the reason why i bought a second Vita (with still 3.18 on it) and this one lays since months around and waiting for the right Emulators. ^^
I don’t understand, when using this hack hackers will try to run at least 1 pirate Vita games?
Nope.
Can you port dolphin emu on it?
This our dream to run play GameCube games on vita.
Sadly, there is pretty much no hope of that happening. Dolphin is pretty demanding and even if someone designed a lightweight GameCube emulator from the ground up, it would probably still be too heavy to run reliably at full speed on a PS Vita. Dolphin has been ported to Android phones, so there is a little hope from that, but still the PS Vita probably isn’t powerful enough.
You may get an entire 3 fps!
But seriously, a Gamecube emulator would be impossible/run unplayably slow. If you really want to play gamecube games, just buying a gamecube is the cheapest method.
It’s possible, no doubt; unfortunately, the Vita’s hardware won’t be powerful enough to play many games at full speed, if any. Think Daedalus on the PSP.
It is very, very possible to run gamecube smooth on vita!!! the gamecube’s polygon count 12 million per second and ps2 happens to be 66million polygons per second. Wii max peak is 100 million polygons . ps vita can render up to 532 million polygons per second max!!!!!! That’s not 3 (which is required to emulated wii) but 5 times more powerful in polygon count than the all mighty wii!!!! Dolphin emulator will run ALOT faster on vita than android.
Do the math.
Polygons don’t matter in this case as much as you may believe. It requires more CPU power to emulate another system then when run natively on the original console.
The vita is running 4 CPU cores and 4 GPU Cores if i’m correct. The 8 Cortex A9 cores.
Now it’s well proven that PS Vita can’t just play ps2 games, but also use anti aliasing with them. Dont believe me, look vita ps2 remasters with more anti aliasing than the ps3… The vita has way more VRAM than ps3. Though, it has inferior geometric capabilities compared to the ps3. Killzone mercanary for example, 390 polygons per second… Over three times more than Wii will be ever capable of rendering AT MAX… We are not talking about ps vita not psp here. If my dual (2) core cortex a9 zte speed phone can handle dolphin emu at 17 (horrrible fps) frames per second max, …
Than imagine what 8 cores can do with the vita. Vita has can run 2.7 .GHz of cpu. Wii can only do 729 MHz sadly. 729*3= 2187. Vita has 2000 MHz (2 GHz) of cpu speed…. Would like my sources????
Vita is more than capable than emulating wii.. Hey 8 Cortex A9 cores is better than two tegra k1 cores, it’s onlt common sense.
Hi.
Vita CPU= 3 GHz Max
Wii CPU= 729 MHz Max
729*3 = 2,187 MHz=2GHZ
One dual core cortex a9 chip is 1.5 GHz.
One quad core cortex a9 chip is 3 g
vita’s safest pinnacle is 2.5 GHz
Vita’s already clocked 2Ghz in OS menu of course with wifi turned off.
Vita=More than possible wii emulation
Would anyone like my sources?
Also, you are not taking emulation overhead into account.
To emulate a system you need a multiple of the Power of the system you want to emulate. Only Sony/Nintendo/MS itself can better emulate it because they have better Infos/Data about her systems to write a well optimized emulator.
But it also depend on the system you want to emulate. The PS3 should be really hard to emulate because of the Cell CPU. Even the PS2 emulator on PC runs today not all PS2 games perfect and it needs really good hardware.
Hi Again,
Vita CPU= 3 GHz Max
Wii CPU= 729 MHz Max
729*3 = 2,187 MHz=2GHZ
One dual core cortex a9 chip is 1.5 GHz.
One quad core cortex a9 chip is 3 g
vita’s safest pinnacle is 2.5 GHz
Vita’s already clocked 2Ghz in OS menu of course with wifi turned off.
Vita=More than possible wii emulation
Would anyone like my sources?
Amazing progress! Wow!! Kudos to you emulator porters.
Really hyped about the SNES emulator. Can’t wait to try it. Finally!! Running and playing a classic like Super Mario RPG that uses a lot of RAM will definitely be smooth with PSVita’s memory capabilities.. freakin’ awesome.
To bad the snes and gba emulators are super slow. Can’t wait until they run at full speed!
heck yeah, thanks for the list!!
That price is for the one that comes up with a back up loader! 😉
hello i have the snes9x emu and i will play games how i can but some games on my vita
Wasn’t there Dreamcast emu for PSP that ran at like 1FPS? If that could be ported over the devs could make so many improvements.
Good news: I was able to run MGBa and Real Boy Vita!
Bad news: I have no idea how to put roms onto my Vita to test them…
Does anyone know how to put roms onto Vita storage? Just curious, maybe via QCMA?
Use VitaFTP from download section. Then use Filezilla to transfer rom into Vita path, like put roms in folder and transfer the folder into vita.
Thank you very much! I appreciate the reply. I’ll be sure to give it a try and post my results later 🙂
Worked perfectly. Thanks again! 😀
These emulators are nice and it would be great to run them if I could even get Rejuvenate working after PSM+ sc*** up how my Vita connects to my PC.
GBA emulator looks so awesome!!! Wish there was a metroid game or at least a knock off on ps vita 🙁
My big wish is to have Vita to run Android platform games (.apk) or at least simulated as an Android platform to run apps like any other android devices. It might seems impossible but still hoping it will be eventually possible to be done. I put faith for any of those skillful programmers/hackers out there to make this thing come true.
We need more hackers and the keys to decrypt the full Vita before that can eventually happened… I also dream of a dual boot Vita / Androïd… that can be cool.
will there be ad hoc multiplayer support!!! for any emulator
Please port Skyrim or one of the new Monster Hunters to Vita, pretty please
will we (people that didnt get PSM or PSM+) ever be able to enjoy any of this? 🙁
Im on 3.35 can I get this, and if so how i missed the window on a lot of stuff
wow comment erased just for asking about people who didnt get PSM…. I’m disappointe Wololo… will have to resort to lifehacker from now on…
you are embarrassing.
When will see the pspEmu on VITA .? DON’T JUST TELL ME THAT IT IS IMPOSSIBLE
There is already a psp emulator embedded on the PS vita, officially supported by Sony. So not sure what your point is.
I mean to play free psp games that i HAVE IN MY PC …
In other words …WILL WE ABLE TO PLAY PSP GAMES WITH REJUVENATE ?
Yes, but imagine with the native vita resolution 😀
Very thanks to Wololo for post my list 🙂

I just tried running PSM Dev, and it asks me to update the application. When I hit refresh on the Dev app from the Live Area, it doesn’t give me an option for an update. I’ve tried running homebrew through Vita Defiler, and I get the update notification again. Just wanted to know if anyone else is aware or if there is a fix/work-around. I was able to run homebrew/ emulators just fine earlier today. Maybe Sony’s caught on and this is a security measure. If anyone is having the same issue, please verify. Otherwise, I’d like to know how I can resolve this.
Just to clarify, I’m running PSM Dev 1.15
Follow these steps

I had the same issue and that helped me out. Be sure that you are a registered forum member, then click on the link.
Now that I think about it… what do you guys think about a CPS3 emulator?? It would be so tight.. imagine if we could play Street Fighter III Third Strike on-the-go?? Holy $%&#!!! I would freakin’ love that..
Someone please do a CPS3 emulator…. 🙂
Finally I managed to run super Mario world with Snes emulator. For those who have problems with adding roms to Vita this French guy on YouTube help a lot in spite of speaking no French 🙂
http://youtu.be/LXB_9TmSaII
The fact is do I have to open PSM on vita, connect it to PC, transfer the emulator file every time? Coz when I close PSM assistant I cant find the game.
532 million polygons per second to be explored on vita!!! Can’t wait for a wii/gamecube emulator!!!!! It would onl take 100 million polygons per second o get a wii/gamecube emulator runing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
heck yeah ! ! ! 😀
I ghet error c2 12828 1 then Psm Dev exits. PSm+ is ok because hello world runs
I’m really sorry for this but
How do I install these homebrews in Rejuvenate (Unity) and put some roms?
