Should you update your PS Vita for the upcoming “Rejuvenate” hack?
One of the questions that seems to fill my inbox lately is people asking me if they should update their PS Vita in order to prepare for the upcoming “Rejuvenate” hack.
PS Vita Hack – Should I update my PS Vita?
Long story short, the only thing you need to do at this point is make sure you have the PSM Dev App installed and running on your PS Vita. This is done in two steps: Register to the PSM Dev portal (if you haven’t done this before, do it now!), then download the app. The rest, including what firmware you are running on, is a bit less relevant.
Nevertheless, Yifan Lu has indicated that firmwares 3.xx are recommended to run the tools he has been building. In theory the exploit is valid for any firmware at 1.69 and above, but most tools have only been tested on 3.xx.
Some people have refrained from updating so far, either because they’re expecting development from the Webkit exploit, or because they’re running one of the many VHBL/ePSP exploits.
My answers to the various use cases would be:
If you’re on firmware 3.xx (including 3.50, 3.51, etc…)
There is in theory no reason for you to update, unless you think it might help you to install the PSM Dev App. So, if you do not have the PSM Dev App now, go and get it. If it means you have to update, then do update!
@kalashnik0v23 describes how he installed the app without updating his PS Vita:
Very simple procedure (I used CFW 4.75 Habib Starbucks)
- Grab the PSM Original package (you don’t even need a proxy!)
- Copy it to a flash
- Put flash in your CFW PS3 and install the package. It will come as a bubble (lol) Once you’re safely signed in to PSN use the QCMA Trick to connect your Vita to your PS3. It will automatically detect the PSM package. You don’t even have to have it on your download list afaik
- Once it copies over open the Dev Assistant but it will prompt you to update via LiveArea. Don’t. Just use the Package Installer & QCMA To install the 1.14 PSM Dev update. And boom, you’re done! You need a proxy only if you’re on OFW. Mission complete! 😀
Yes! I got PSM Dev Assistant Installed! 😀 And I’m still on 3.18 ***! pic.twitter.com/lOkg8w9eW7

If you’re running an ePSP exploit (VHBL, TN-V, etc…)
Here again this depends on your firmware. If you have the PSM Dev app installed, stay put. Update only once YifanLu releases all the necessary tools. In particular if you do not plan to develop anything on this platform, and are “just” an end user, you’ll want to wait for homebrews to be available anyway.
If you don’t have the PSM Dev app installed, update if you need to, or try the method in the section above.
If you’re running an old firmware for the sake of the webkit exploit
YifanLu has stated that the webkit exploit opens much fewer doors than the PSM one. At this point, it is pretty safe to assume that most Vita homebrew development, exploits, and hacks, will surface through the Rejuvenate platform. If the webkit exploit is the only thing that has prevented you from updating, at this point I’d say it’s a pretty safe bet to update. Again, it is up to you, and it assumes you have the PSM Dev App available on your account.
Conclusion
What matters is that you manage to install the PSM Dev App. It’s a matter of hours now for Sony to remove the tricks mentioned to help you install it, and then it will most likely be gone forever. If it means you have to update your ps vita in order to safely get the app, my personal take on this is that it’s worth it.
Additionally, this PS Vita hack was revealed and runs on the latest firmware, 3.51. Any firmware above that will most likely have a patch to prevent the hack from running. So, one thing that is important is to *not* update past firmware 3.51 (if you read this in the future, that is 🙂 )

ok
PSA: You CAN install PSM Dev App on old OFW Vita with latest OFW PS3 as described here:

Why isn’t this getting more attention? I feel like a lot of people that don’t need to update are being told to. Just did this on 3.18
I’m in 3.30 and the psm dev asks system update when I run. what should I do?I would not want to update the psvita.
What the heck is wrong with you? This article answers that question. Did you not even read it?
He’s probably blind.
In order to bypass the update simply put your PS Vita in the microwave, set the timer for 1 minute (very important as any longer will damage the screen!), and after you take it out it won’t prompt for anymore updates! The trick is that the micro waves block all of the update notifications! This is how I got it working for my 3.18, give it a try!
If your mother comes together I put.
I strongly recommend you to not to update, since I do not want that you enjoy the greatness coming from Rejuvenate
Really? You not want?
How can I Grab the PSM package? I have installed the psm on my vita( with a proxy methode) fw 3.18 but the psm app ask me to update to the new one to do this I have to update my ps vita fw first. I can see the psm app in my download list but it is grey, I can t download it on my ps3.
can you give me a guide for the proxy method?im on 3.18 too and none worked for me and my ps3 is busted only have a ps4
I have used a ps3 with a proxy server
Any trick that involves having a PS3 is out of reach for me, sadly.
@Regenius Yeah, that’s how I got it installed, but one important thing that I didn’t see anyone mention is that you have to make sure PSM Dev Assistant is in your PSN Downloads list, otherwise when you launch the PSM Dev Assistant, it’ll say your PS Vita isn’t activated. If you sign into your PSN Account and then click the link to download the assistant in the PSM Dev Portal (The one that says “Open this in your Vita web browser”), it’ll still pop up in your downloads list even if you click it on a PC.
Just to clarify, you want us to go to this link on the pc to add it download to our downloads list?

Can someone please tell me if you can download the PSM app on a 3.36 Vita WITHOUT updating? I have a cfw PS3 if you were wondering.
On 4.70 Rebug, I told the PS3 to use Charles Proxy on my local computer as the proxy address, IIRC, the port was 8888.
I then used a 4.75 spoofer (no idea if it still works anymore) and got on PSN and told my PS3 to download a Vita game. Then, told it to download in the background, and paused it as soon as I was able to navigate to the download manager on the PS3.
Next, go to Charles Proxy on the PC, and find the zeus.playstation.com link (or similar) and expand it. Find the .pkg file and copy the name.
Get the PSM Dev app .pkg (search the forums) and make a copy with the same name as the .pkg from Charles Proxy.
Important note, make sure you’ve downloaded the dev assistant, and not the unity dev assistant. The unity one is pointless for this.
Back in Charles Proxy, right-click on the .pkg that the PS3 was downloading, and select “map local” and browse to the dev assistant .pkg that you just renamed.
On the PS3, tell it to resume the download, and after a few moments it will start over from 0% automatically.
Once it’s done “downloading” (the name and icon will still be for whatever you told the PS3 to download initially, and will not say it’s the dev assistant), connect the Vita to QCMA on your computer.
Tell the vita to go to copy files mode, but don’t copy anything.
Unplug the vita from the PC, while leaving the content manager running.
Plug the vita into the PS3, and tell it to connect to the PS3.
Transfer the entry for the game you told the PS3 to download (the one that is acutally the dev assistant now.)
When it’s done, run the dev assistant on the vita. It might ask to update the dev assistant. That’s fine, as long as it doesn’t ask to update the vita itself. After it updates the dev assistant, the dev assistant should be able to run.
The dev assistant will either say that it couldn’t connect to the network (if you’re not connected to the internet), or it will just say that there are no content items installed.
If you’ve made it here successfully, then you’re done, and will be ready when Rejuvenate is released.
I really appreciate you taking the time to reply to me. Thank you, man. I have a problem, though. I followed everything you suggested and got the 8MB bubble on my PS3. The problem is that whenever I try to connect my Vita to my PS3 or PC it asks me to update my Vita… Please advise!
Actually, scratch that! I somehow managed to get it on it! Should I update the Dev Assistant to version 1.15 though? I heard that only 1.14 was supported…or something like that.
I think now it’s the right time for a ninja release of a PSP + KEXPLOIT for FW 3.51, don’t you? It may be the final one…
I teste on me 3.51 and work but now me queation ist can i get bann from sony? Or any problem ? Thank you
Can some1 please tell me if its enough to register at PSM dev portal? I dont have Vita yet but i wanted to buy one soon. Homebrew really convinced me to do it.
Register on their site NOW on pc and download it to ur pc….then ur safe with the program. When u get ur vita u can trans it over to vita.
Your barely have a few hours left before Sony removes this app forever, hurry up man lol
This App can only be downloaded by a Vita (and a PS3, I think), it’s impossible with the PC don’t you know?
You actually *can* download it from a PC. You just need the link, or a mirror. You can’t download it from the PS3 though, as it’s greyed out in the download list.
So is there a way how to extract update pup file and change pkg file inside with the DevAPP kit pkg ? With charles will be easy to run update, stop it, map local pup file and continue update. I tryed that only for pkg but its not working. I dont want to lose my 3.18 :/
Good very very Good,Yingfan Lou Keep it up!!
I guess I really lucked out on this one; since I had the PSM Dev Assistant app before they locked down my account years ago O.o; just restored a old backup. Yay~
In the guide you said to grab the original psm package, where do I get it from? i can’t download it from my ps3
So there’s still no way to successfully install this on a 1.81 Vita, right?
Is there different kinds of PSM Dev App on Vita because I notice that the runtime in my PS Vita 3.18 is 2.00 while some got 1.20 and 2.00?
OK, they need to seriously give better detailed Description of how to get the PSM Dev App. Copy and Paste the JavaScript Code to the URL? Really? Did that and I get Google Search coming up. Did that before and After the Link.
Did you make sure that it began with “javascript:” after pasting it? A lot of browsers automatically remove that part.
Apparently the PSM Dev Apps have been removed from PSN
so when is this hack gonna come out? and how will i install it ?
and thanks for your work i cant wait for the ps4
Wololo, thank you for this. I’ve updated my WebKit Vita, and kept my WebKit PSTV where it was. PSM Dev app was successfully installed. 🙂
Hey you guys I need help. I used qcma to transfer psm app from a new vita to my computer. I plug in a old vita on firmware 3.18 to transfer the pam app onto it with qcma. The app is now on my 3.18 vita. When I click on it says you must update software version to 3.35 or later. Anyway to get around this???
About Step 4: Updating the pkg via Package Installer. How do I invoke it? the email trick doesnt work for me, for some reason. I’m at 3.18
You can install PSM App using second Vita device – download/install, backup it using OpenCMA/QCMA, restore on needed Vita.
Tested with PSVita and PSVita TV.
I am on 3.36 Fw, got the app over Proxy and ps3 trick. BUT after install i uodatet it directly on the ps vita, was that wrong? it starts up and everything seams to be ok. Could not get this pkginstaller to work.
Actually. is there any plans to make “homebrewed” ePSP? This will help with PSP’s homebrews backward compatibility…
Could this hack be used to further develop the webkit hack?
or be used together in any way?
I installed the dev, but imagine an ipad needing to connect usb to a mac every time you want to play Angry Birds.
So mine’s at 1.15… is that okay? I thought it was 1.15, not 1.14…
If on CFW PS3 the app and the update can be installed with the PS3 just install the app first run it on the Vita then install the update via PS3 and OpenCMA.
I have PS suite dev pretty its the same thing without update correct.
This information would’ve been fantastic when I was hunting everywhere for an option to avoid updating my Vita. Glad it came out AFTER I decided to bite the bullet and give up my 3.18 exploit to update.
I’m on 3.51 and I installed it already, Should I update the PSM app or leave it on 1.00?
I’m still on 3.18 with PSM too
The Dev app requires a firmware of 3.15 or later or it won’t run.
Here is a way to download the Psm app of you don’t want to update your vita and DONT OWN A PS3. First get a second ps vita sign in to your account and download the Psm app through there. Then after you download the Psm app back it up on your computer using qcma then transfer it to your lower firmware vita (vita must have the same playstation network account just In case you didn’t know)and you’re done. Just in case you don’t own a second vita and you don’t want to spend money on another one here’s how. You can go to your local GameStop and buy a used vita then download the Psm app do the backup then return it to gamestop before the seven days and bam you got the Psm app without having to lose any money on a second ps vita.
Hi everyody!
Well, i have a problem. I did all the website says but when the e-mail confirmation arrived and i clicked it, i can’t complete the process. The PSM page says: “PSM Developer registration could not be completed." Please any help.
Me too, I tried it with a couple different accounts for some friends that couldn’t get to a PC quick. But sadly it appears we’re too late. They must’ve fixed this little hole as we all knew would happen really quick.
Please can someone elaborate on step #1: “Grab the PSM original package”. How? On the pc, vita or ps3?
It generates confusion. Minimur can’t do a video tutorial showing the process to download it with a Ps3 cfw and the transfer to vita? Please?
Sounds insecure try only plug the cfw ps3 and try. Is only instal the habib 4.75 plug and go? I need configure my psvita acount on ps3? There a patch ou pkg needed to be activated before? I need still connected under all the process? Any chance of my cfw be atualizated by mistake?
See, with a video all these questions gone.
Jyoshil pitamber didn’t come up with the the trick to get psm with USB on ps3 if you look in your talk forum you will see somebody posted it a couple of weeks ago. I apologise in advance if it’s the same guy. Reason I know this is because I just unbanned my sons ps3 to do this trick!
Good I am in the version 3.18 that I must do to obtain the renowned app have ps3 not even at all any idea
So I got the PSM on my 3.18 installed now. I start app and it says there are no items installed please use the psm studio to create and install applications. Do I need to do anything else or am I done?
