[3DS] rxTools with patched out signature checks released
Developer AHB_person released a version of rxTools with patched out signature checks. This allows installing and running .cia files without valid signatures.
rxTools by Roxas75 is a versatile CFW for original 3DS (3DS, 3DS XL/LL, 2DS) which lets you have emuNAND up to 9.8. It also includes powerful tools to manipulate/dump NAND, system titles etc. It can be booted through DS profile exploit MSET (up to 4.5 SysNAND) or through the browser (up to 9.2 SysNAND). Now with the patched signature checks, rxTools can be used as a replacement of Gateway. It doesn’t have the full feature list of Gateway, but it is really close.

This patched rxTools has 2 versions. One version has Gameboy Advance and DSiWare games support which Gateway lacks. Unfortunately this version doesn’t support booting Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate and Super Smash Bros. The other version supports booting Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate and Super Smash Bros. but lacks GBA and DSiWare support. For anyone wondering, you can boot GBA games even from EmuNAND. You are no longer bound to installing these titles to SysNAND. DSiWare games still need to be booted through SysNAND though.
PastaCFW and signature patched RxTools are great alternatives to Gateway for now. What do you think about the future of Gateway?

As a 3DS noob, I must ask, does this allow for the saving progress on newer games that 4.5 FW doesn’t like? This is my only gripe at 4.5 🙁
you can upgrade your sysnand to 6.x-9.2 and your savedata encryption problem is solved. these games will still save on 4.x but the cartridge saves wont be interchangeable with consoles over 6.x sysnand.
Rxtools is for O3ds only. Gateway has ds profile exploit on 9.2 on N3ds and its pretty nice.
yup, gateway’s EmuNAND and MSET support on new 3ds is really cool. Hope the Pasta cfw will support both soon.
As a retro guy, i prefer the gba and dsiware support of Pasta CFW to the EmuNAND and MSET support of Gateway. That is why i gave up on gateway and i am using only Pasta CFW on my new 3ds xl.
I was going to go for a combo of pasta and gateway but I realized that downgrading the settings app gets rid of the Wi-Fi data transfer app. And taking the back plate off is a small hassle :/
i feel you, though you can install the wi fi data transfer app as cia so that it works stand alone.

Honestly, I think it’s disgusting that people are taking works and editing them like this, presumably without permission? Why are leaks/patches like this treated as great news, when it’s generally just a big *** you to the actual developer?

region free and undub are different things. Both are cool though. 🙂

Knowing nothing about 3ds hacking makes my head spin. MSET and all sorts of crazy stuff. Someone should make a noob tutorial. I’m not sure why I’d want any of this.

for a start, MSET exploit works like that: You choose DS Profile setting in the Settings Menu and the CFW starts instantly. No need for a flashcart or cubic ninja cartridge or internet access etc. It is the fastest exploit trigger in 3DS scene.
Patched signature checks means you can load stuff to your 3ds that is not signed by nintendo, that includes homebrews, side loaded virtual console games, game backups etc.

No, as far as i know. But in the end, there is always a risk.
There actually was a recent rash of bans, but it related to Gateway users. The exact reason for the bans is hard to prove, but the general consensus is that they happened when people use ROMs with the same headers used by other people (each individual cart has a unique header).
Installing in CIA format doesn’t use a header anyway so it should be safe from this ban, although Nintendo could always start banning other things.

Why is rxtools better than gateway you ask? Rxtools is FREE where gateway is not.
Thats the number 1 reason its better. All other eeasons are irrelivent.

Both rxTools and Pasta CFW are useless as neither support emuNand on an N3DS. I have to stick with Gateway for now.
I wish that either rxTools would come to N3DS or Pasta CFW would work with emuNand.
I don’t think we will ever see rxTools ported to N3DS unless it is fully open sourced, my bet is on Pasta CFW with EmuNAND and MSET support.
hello I have a question save data filer opens but it cant extract the save data of 7.x games why even if i’m in rx-e 9.8
no idea, try booting savedata filer through pasta cfw.
oh, forgot to ask, do you have slot0x25KeyX.bin for decrypting 7.x?
Please help. I am on 7.2.0-17US old 3ds. Everytime I try to launch rx mode, my 3ds says an error has occurred
Go to browser settings, delete history and initialize save data then the browser will close and you can try to launch rx again. This happened to my sisters 3ds and the above steps fixed the issue. Hasn’t happened since.

Rigth now I have Palentine cfw on 4.3. But I hate the booting in to cfw system. Fails a lot of times.
My question is….whit rxtools do I have to boot the cfw in the same way that palentine everytime I want to play a cia?

yes you can use rxtools through ds profile exploit just like palastine but with a much higher boot success ratio.
