    Yeah ! great news

I installed it on my vita a long time ago , and i’m now on 3.18.$

    Do i have to update?

    • AliceTheGorgon

      Stay on 3.18 for now.

Worst case scenario, if some super awesome homebrew comes out that for some reason requires a higher firmware, you can always update to a specific firmware with qcma/opencma.

      • mypenisissixtyinches

        thank you alice !

I have now the psm dev app on my vita but i can’t acess to it because of my low firware (when i open it i have a message saying that i need to update the application, and if i try , i can’t because of my low ofw )

I guess the only way for me to download the latest version of the psm dev app , wich is probapbly needed for yfan lu thing is to update my psvita. ( i haven’t got a ps3 )

That should be the best thing to do for me , before it wiil be too late 🙂

  3. Mechagouki

This is an awesome idea, I really hope something comes of it, the Vita is such good hardware.

Have to lol a bit at all the people freaking out about not having a PSM license…now no longer needed!

  4. Buzzcut

    Well, I wasn’t going to update, but now I’m thinking we’ll get emulators through this… I wish I had a PS3

  5. gobulle

No approvement after 2 weeks …

    • brentt

You dont need an aprovement any more

    • brentt

These posts where wololo&others told to get the licence were just to trick sony into tinking it was really needed, the only thing they would need to do is not approve anything any more.
But now yifan lu said we dont need the licence sony is probably going a step further: they will probsbly block the possibility to download the psm dev assistant for psvita, so get it fast before they block it folks!!!

  6. HolioCorn

The PSM assistant is asking me for an update to install. Should I download it?

    • warfaren

No, it needs to stay without the update.

      • warfaren

Actually, you want version 1.14 which can be manually installed via package installer (on top of 1.0). Maybe this only goes for ~3.18 Vitas though and the latest update file should be installed on 3.51 Vitas. Not sure, sorry.

  7. War-Wounded

So does it mean that people who are still in 3.18 should update anyway?

    • Buzzcut

I think everyone on a lower FW without the dev app already installed would like to know this. I wish Yifan Lu would respond with what he thinks is possible with this. Can we run PSP homebrew through it, or do we have to wait for new homebrew(Emulators!!!)?

    • hhg

No Need to update, I’m on 3.18,installed with a borrowed PS3 and pkg installer

  8. Wanderer

Question; I have the PSM license but I don’t have the PSM Development Assistant on my PS Vita, so do I update my vita to get it or do I actually need a PS3?

    • Jim

You only need a ps3 if you want to stay on an older vita fw version. So if you’re happy with updating then no ps3 needed.

      • warfaren

It also works if you have a second Vita / PSTV activated to the same account, then you can use QCMA to copy the Dev Assistant across. I just did this using a 3.51 PSTV to put it on my 3.18 Vita. No PS3 involved.

  9. macoman

my question is,update is necessary?or then we update without concern? please wololo or the z,reply me.

    • macoman

      please answer me

      • dbzgts

no need to update but you must have psm dev assistant installed to your vita…

      • Awalsh053

No need to update bro I installed on my 3.18 -3.36and3.50 I downloaded on 3.50 vita transfer to pc then copy to other vitas….other then this guess u would need ps3

    • macoman

      yifan lu answer me

    • jhormanC

no, I’m 3.18 and I installed several successful demos with my LICENSED newly APPROVED 😀

      • Buzzcut

He probably, like many of us, doesn’t have a PS3, second Vita, or the dev app already installed. I’m guessing he is asking if he should update to get it. I would also like to know if it’s worth it, or if this hack could be gotten another way on 3.18 in the future.

        • hhg

In my case I was able to rent 1 DVD rental shop, try that

          • Buzzcut

I don’t think there’s any place that would rent out a console where I live. Also, I don’t know anyone that has a PS3 or Vita. :/

        • jhormanC

You don’t need to update to download anything on the vita. Go to your download list on the playstation store through your computer and add it to your queue. Completely power off your ps vita, power it back on and connect to wifi and bam your done.

      • crashas

how da heck u did that I’m on 3.18 as well, but what ever method i try it seems i cannot access store w/o updating

    • hhg

There are ways to do it without update you have to look if u can use this ways, otherwise it’s your own decision and the big players can’t help u with that…..

    • anonanon

If you have (Or have access to) a second, updated vita or a PS3 then you don’t need to be updated. Otherwise, yes you do.

    • Chris5258

You don’t need to update to download anything on the vita. Go to your download list on the playstation store through your computer and add it to your queue. Completely power off your ps vita, power it back on and connect to wifi and bam your done.

  10. bungus

YIFAN LU YOU ARE A LIFESAVER! I never could have imagined that there would be another way to get the dev kits without getting approved. Big middle finger to sony right here.

  11. jhormanC

my biggest problem is that only speak Spanish and most of the documents and files are in English ncesarios and use google translator (as I do at this point) becomes a headache: / I hope you can help the cause .. of course I already have my license and running several demos waiting for something big 😀

  12. UnimpressedGamer

5 years since the PS Vita came out….everything else aside from the PS4 and Xbox One has been modded, even the New 3DS can play ISOs and yet we still can’t even figure out how to get and play PS-Vita ISOs…disappointing. The Vita’s always gonna be a piece of junk if they can’t even do that in my honest opinion. In before the “anti-piracy” butthurt warriors come in to chastise my comment. And nobody cares about playing PSP games on a Vita when its so simple to just install 6.50 PRO-B CFW on a PSP and play it

    • UnimpressedGamer

*3 years, that was a typo. My mistake

      • Jim

You do get the point of this situation right? Seems a really weird time to complain about no vita development when most people expect this to open the door to native vita releases.

        • UnimpressedGamer

I know it’s only for native releases. But everyone has been aiming small the last 3 years. I’m still waiting for someone who can actually take some sort of development into making PS Vita ISOs. Homebrew is quite minuscule because of the fact of the limited uses you can use for it. And if I want emulators, I’ll just get the console they’re originally from. I want to be able to play Vita ISOs on my PS-Vita like the other consoles. If even the PS4 can play ISOs now (despite having a limited number), why can’t the Vita? The PS Vita has some good games, and it has alot more potential than just trashy homebrew apps and last-gen PSP antics. That’s why I said, the PS Vita is mostly just a piece of junk. I prefer my 3DS over my Vita any day because I actually have a bigger library of games to choose from, and the fact that more people are dedicated to getting playable games on the 3DS over the years rather than the Vita

          • JustAHackingFan

Not everyone can just go out and by a console. Not only that but home consoles aren’t portable so maybe people would rather play on a potable instead of sitting in front of a tv. If I’m not mistaken at one point there was a bounty on hacking the Vitas kernel. If you’re Unimpressed then why don’t you hack it? On the bright side you can claim the bounty (approx $2000 last I time I checked), go down in the hacking scene as a legend, and finally play the ISO’s (ROMs) that you desire so badly. However on the dark side you can continue to whine about how devs aren’t “pleasing your personal Vita needs”, not be credited for contributing anything helpful, talk about another portable that’s not even a topic of this article……… And not get any cookies. These hacks aren’t made just for you

          • AliceTheGorgon

Homebrew is exactly as miniscule as you let it be. If you’re not satisfied with the scene, then become a dev and change it, or stop whining.

Additionally, are there really *that* many games on the Vita you desperately want to get for free? There are a few I’d probably try, but I doubt I’d like many of them enough to want to keep them.

    • JustAnotherOne

seems like you’re the only butthurt here so far since you can’t break the vita’s security to pirate.

    • ken2802

the 3ds cant play isos 😉

  13. PLAYER

I updated my Vita to latest firmware and installed the Development Assistent. Do i also need to generate a Key or something else?

  14. fayt

Creating an entire SDK gor a closed system can take years

  15. A-chan

I’m still on 3.18 and I can’t get the assistant.
    What should I do?

    • AliceTheGorgon

If you have a (or can borrow a friend’s) CFW PS3, you can use that to get the assistant installed. If not, you could update the Vita and install it, though you’d probably lose PSP mode stuff until one of the folks working on native code gets something worked out.

The instructions for getting the assistant on your Vita from a CFW PS3 are this:

(Make sure the PS3 is signed into PSN with the same account that’s on the Vita.)

You need to download the package onto your computer (get the SDK 1 version from thread 40621 on the forums), transfer it to a flash drive, install it on a CFW PS3 with the package installer, then transfer it to your Vita.

To transfer it to the Vita, connect to QCMA/opencma via usb, making sure you’ve set them to offline mode, then unplug the Vita while leaving the Content Manager running. Then, plug the Vita into the PS3 and select to connect the Content Manager to the PS3. Then, just transfer the dev assistant to the Vita.

  16. meysam25

it is great news but i belive the main question is : how mouch dose it take untile create a custome sdk ?
    i know alot :(((((

  17. gobulle

    You say I don’t need an aprovement any more. I don’t understand, I’ m on 3.51 without ps3 or 2nd psvita …
Why must I do so ??

  18. YZ Rum

For those of us who have no experience in developing a public Vita SDK, once the project is up and running, where do we donate funds to help the service running?

  19. uspsn

My vita cannot browse to psm.playstation.net but can browse to other website so i cant install psm developer assistant on my vita. Any idea?

  20. ModChipGuy

So once I get PSM Dev installed on my Vita there is nothing else to do for now? Doesn’t seem like I can install demos if I don’t have a licence.

    • R0ME0

Yes, but apparently this is the tool required to run the possible upcoming homebrew, IF Yifan Yu’s Vita SDK project comes along.

  21. lxtr

    Big Hack is Coming….Yeah!

    • SoraNoKuni

Eh? Yifan just said that we need to develop an opensdk to make things possible so don’t get your hopes up just yet, just spread the word to people you think they can help. :p

  22. MyLegGuy

Good thing! I think my Psm developer licence expires soon because I made it a while ago.

  23. Stanislav

    Imposuble,good luck!!

  24. 1

Is it possible to make a open SDK from scratch without stealing/taking stuff from the original SDK? How have the other SDKs for other systems been made?

  25. SittinHereThinkin

Well i know that “Code::Blocks” is open sourced and can compile “ARM” coding, so i would (THINK) that it would be quite a bit easier to just modify the “ARM” files used for “Code::Blocks” for use with the Vita (AKA: edit the compiler to match the STRUCTURE that is used for the Vita CPU) PLUS it is CrossPlatform and also has an ESTABLISHED forum and some people to help out along the way with getting the required work done.

Me, I am not capable of completing the task. Yes i understand fully of the complications of the task. But in THEORY this should be a major shortcut to get to the goal then to have to reprogram a “CUSTOM” SDK to use specificly for the vita when you can have one to use for coding in multiple languages AND on multiple platforms.

    • lmao

      Obviously you know nothing.
Who said “reprogram” a custom SDK?
Standard C/C++ libs is easily to compile as ARM executable binary for vita.
SDK means vita specific function like SceKernelBlahBlah, which usually need input a Vita specific structure made by Sony.
Don’t expect to add “windows.h” header and things like socket/networking magically works. LMAO

      • lmao

        *continue*
See, YifanLu (and other devs) doesn’t need to implement these SceBlahBlah functions.. They just need to import it from Module/PRX-es to use it, but these functions usually needs specific structures defined by Sony, they need to write down in header so homebrew programmer can live easier.

    • lmao

Also, Code::Blocks team using GCC compiler, they don’t make GCC compiler. Just *** if u know nothing.

  26. Yatto

Can someone confirm that it is the PSM SDK 1.21 and NOT the 2.0 and NOT the Unity, that I have to download, right ?

  27. Robert

    So can we update safely?

    • brentt

if you have the psm dev assistanton your psvita, don’t update.
if you don’t have it on you vita, try to get it on the vita via ps3 or other ways.
ONLY update when you really have to, when there is no other way to get the psm dev assistant on your psvita, and if you have to update to get the psm dev installer, try to delay it a bit, maybe yifan says what his puposes are before the shutdown of psm.
(psm could be of no use for you, just for devs, u would lose psp exploit if you update)

  28. brentt

why are my comments awaiting moderation ?

  29. kevinc

Hi guys first post ever but here goes, ive installed ecfw on my pstv and im on 3.50, registered for psm dev licence not heard anything yet, managed to use vita update blocker to install psmdevapp, only problem i can see is that as many people on here know certain apps are not compatable with pstv, psmdevapp being one of them. Its installed fine just cannot run. Dont know if that makes a difference for anyone just thought id share the knowledge!

  30. Internal

I’m a dev, i can do java, c#, php, js and some html. Let me kno how i can lend a hand.

My vita is on 3.18, i havent installed PSM yet because i dont have a PKG installer

  31. Simonsays

Why dont you spoiled brats donate a ps3 or vita to him since he’s a struggling developer. If I had it if give it to him a PS3 averages from $40-150 here in the blessed USofA same goes for a ps vita.

    • >_>

      Have you donated anything?

    • anonanon

I actually plan to donate after release. A lot of developers don’t like people donating before something comes out, because it leads to ‘I donated to get this, why doesn’t it work the way I want it to’ etc

  32. The Batman

I have a 3.18 Vita without PSM assistant on Vita

What are my options to get this hack at the moment?

  33. ModChipGuy

    is there a donation button?

  34. lfskjs

should i update my 3.50 to get that tool is it worth it

  35. lfskjs

i did it says to update

  36. dbzgts

I think most of us already happy if sony let us to have homebrew without patching it in every firmware update. Hope with this hack,we can play homebrew and play online too

  37. lfskjs

no thinking of getting it or should i wait

  38. lfskjs

    are you real

  39. lfskjs

    that sucks

  40. gobulle

First I want to say that if needed I can donate too .
And I have a question : I m on 3.51 with dev assistant on 1.00 version but it can’t be used because it needs to be updated.
So I have to update it or not ???
